A great place to eat! We thought we would try it since we wanted local. It was pretty empty when we arrived at opening time (evening hours- they close from 2-5) the waitress was very friendly. Took our orders and although she wasn't in our face, she'd occasionally see if we were ok. Within a short time, people started coming in. Our food was delicious. I got the coconut chicken which was very good and my husband got the milanesa chicken and ham. They were served on good sized platters and generous portioned. The salad was fresh. The homemade cakes were out of this world! We liked it so much we decided to come back for breakfast. There was a constant flow of diners coming in and out. Even though we waited a bit for the food, no one fussed because it was worth waiting for. Carlitos, the owner is Colombian and he's also very friendly as he attends each customer. Every waitress and waiter had smile on their faces. One told us she loves working there. This was old fashioned service at its best. What is rarely seen these days. My lunch experience at Carlito's was pretty average last week in terms of food, service, atmosphere, and overall experience. All of these elements were lacking in some shape or form. I didn't and still don't get the Cuban genre designation for the restaurant. There were arguably too many food options on the menu, many had nothing to do with Cuban fare or Cuban influence. I order the coconut chicken which came with two sides. I ordered a side salad and onion rings. The chicken was good, unique, great portion size. Salad was fine. I had to remind the waitress of my onion ring side. When she brought it out, I received a total of 3 rings- I almost laughed out loud! I really loved the coconut chicken I recently had while visiting town for work. Think of large chicken tenders with lots of coconut flakes in the batter. If you like coconut, it is pretty much perfect. The dish is $11.99, but comes with two sides and they bring out bread before. I don't know if this is always the case, but we had croissants as the bread. They weren't warm however still tasty. Our server was friendly and helpful when my coworkers were deciding what to choose. The menu has a wide variety or Cuban inspired dishes to American classics and even some Asian flair. My dish I guess was considered Asian because it came with sweet and sour sauce. Something I didn't like was the salad dressings were literally the bottles from the grocery store like Kraft or Wish Bone or whatever. That just looks tacky to me, especially when the other sauces were in clear standard plastic bottles. Also it seemed out of place because it was clear that everything is homemade. Outstanding breakfast! Great customer service and great food. The eggs were cooked to perfection, along with the omelettes. French toast special was just that! Special! Cuban food turned Tex mex. Cuban food is delicious. Tex-Mexicano food is great. Mixing both of these together was a Hugh mistake. Salsa gross most just chill powder. Chips were bad. This place has a ok Cuban queso but it goes to show you if you just add cheese to something: it does not make it better. The chicken is great. That's it. Putting it on some of the dishes is just wrong. No passion. Probably too much pride to want to fix it. read more
