On top of that I still have to cook dinner. This stand is my huge help to get through the week. A break, a relief, a breather when I feel like I'm drowning in everyday responsibilities. It's also an encouragement to keep going because of the workers whom are sisters, husband and wife, mother and daughter, grandchildren all working hard together. Giving great service with a smile on their face and making it through the everyday daily grind together. Type of Food: Buk Buk kitchen serves different Filipino dishes that my mom enjoys but I always come for the tasty, tender, marinated to perfection bar-b-q grilled chicken. A few times they offered Hawaiian dishes and other local dishes. Here and there I mix it a bit and get a combo with the thinly sliced beef. I get the family size which perfectly feeds my boys and I. Yeah, my husband has to fend for himself. It comes with 4 generous scoops of rice, salad, and four cut up pieces of chicken for $12. Locaton: Buk Buk kitchen is associated with Mahiku farmers market. After much anticipation due to them being closed for the holidays and working through figuring out…read moretheir schedule, we finally got a chance to head over to their evening location for a taste of that fresh Big Island lobster! They park their truck in what I overheard is on the property of one of their friends (what a cool friend!) and as such there isn't really much ambience on the street - next door there is a dive bar and there's not much else going on in the evenings, but they get credit for at least putting out some charming tables out front for customers, and making the best to work with what they've got. I ordered the combo, lobsta roll + lobster bisque. On a chilly night this hit the spot. The lobster was definitely fresh, although I felt like the roll took away from the flavor on some bites. Maybe the lobster wasn't packed in like I'm used to but hey, quality over quantity is okay by me. The bisque didn't blow me away but it was solid. Service was friendly and prompt, and I appreciate their efforts in using compostables over single use plastics (aside from the admittedly cute lobster pinned on top of the sandwich, which might i suggest to make this more Ocean Friendly by making it a paper flag)? I'm always mindful of the impact of single use trash/plastics guys, if you haven't noticed from my previous reviews. With all that said, I appreciate their use and support of locally caught lobsters which not only supports our local fisherman but also ensures the freshest and therefore most delicious seafood option, and for that they have my support. Totally worth their reasonable prices for what you get. I'll be back again when the craving for lobster rolls rolls back in, although their poke does look pretty bomb diggity so maybe I will try that too! Maybe this time I'll check 'em out in the daytime at their other location - I have a feeling the daytime vibe will feel more energetic!

They have a nice set up with a table and some chairs under an umbrella in case you decide you want to eat there. I ordered their lobster roll and lobster bisque combo for $20. The lobster bisque came out in a small to go cup and was served with a small toasted square of Kings sweet bread and some fresh herbs. The bisque was good with chunks of lobster meet, a creamy stock, and a little bit of cauliflower. I was surprised by this but I ended up liking it as it added some texture without taking away from the lobster. The lobster roll was served on a perfectly toasted Kings roll with a side of lemon. The lobster tasted like it was grilled with butter and then they add some greens, radish sprouts, and a little but of egg salad. It seemed like he used a whole lobster for the lobster roll (albeit a small one) as there was a healthy mix of tail and claw meet. I liked how he added some egg salad and again it added a surprise to the roll without taking away the focus from the lobster. I ended up ordering another roll and left pleasantly full. I spent some time talking to Dustin afterwards and he's still trying to get the feel for things and he's also trying to figure out where he'll set up in town. He expects business to pick up significantly when he does but for now hurry up and head over to his Kailua spot before word gets out and you have to wait in line.

We were so excited to have a food event come to Kailua that we bought a lot. I've forgotten some of the vendors that were there........The ones that I can remember were: Shogunai Fairy Cakes (no they weren't dressed up this time) Chicago Eats Thai Loco Foods Tats Shave Ice Xtreme Tacos Puffettes Egg Puffs Soul Lanikai Shrimp Truck & and an ice cream truck Hawaiian Soljahs is a youth baseball team and this is their fundraiser.......and they also have a booth with canned soda ($1.00), bottled water, and hot chocolate w/whipped cream. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WOCyhWNFxAlsl36loEVQVw?select=w7nmXIgqM_8tTZDUOLsLiA Enchanted Lake Elementary School had their own booth, selling Rice Krispie treats, shortbread, beef sticks, & Cookie Corner cookies. They were also taking orders for their Easter Imu pit !@ $20. BTW, they also do a Thanksgiving imu. It's a fund raiser for the 4th Grade Big Island trip. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WOCyhWNFxAlsl36loEVQVw?select=zB5WSLoBZ39KybDCMjZleA http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WOCyhWNFxAlsl36loEVQVw?select=6iI-QUWMxnx5kpb4j-XkcQ So many choices that it was hard making up our minds. I love gyros so we were looking @ Chicago Eats, and someone ordering told us she was from Chicago, and the food tasted just like the food in Chicago (deep dish pizza, Chicago hot dogs, etc.). I ordered the gyro, and my husband ordered the hot dog. Next time it'll be the deep dish pizza. Even the kiddie pizza looked delish! I bought cupcakes, a lemon bar and carrot cake from Fairy Cakes. My husband bought a spicy ahi poke bowl w/brown rice which was fantastic. At another vendor we bought a sampler slider (set of 3; steak, meatloaf and veggie) http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WOCyhWNFxAlsl36loEVQVw?select=Af1EahdCOhh3GV94oXS6bg There's always room for dessert, and I bought bread pudding which, thankfully, was very light http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/WOCyhWNFxAlsl36loEVQVw?select=7o6gUL-qE-JeYiZw8l_a_w I can't remember the names of those food trucks....so if you recognizes the food let me know!! Today the hours were from 4-8. There were are a few stalls in the lot, but more on the street because there was basketball going on. The food trucks and tents are right in front of the cafeteria so there's lot of seating and no worries if it should rain. And no.....we did not eat all of that. We have leftovers for a midnight snack ;) ('ll post more pics later on when I come out of my food stupor.) Yelp 365 Challenge: #42/365

Wife went to the 5-0 Ribs truck and got, well, the ribs. Tasty and tender. She also gave me a sample of the brisket which tasted like some kinda meat heaven. The guys at the 5-0 Ribs truck were sooo friendly with great service. I went to the We're Cooking Fresh For You Truck and got the steak with pesto on brown rice and salad plate. It was actually quite healthy and had a nice side of fresh apple and pineapple slices. Fun events aside from food. Drag racing cars revving their engines. Live music. Dancing. Basket hoop games. Great place for kids. Then our demons came out. We went to the Aloha on Wheels Truck and got the dreaded...The breaded..... DEEP FRIED SNICKERS WITH BACON on a stick So much for working out. I can't finish this review without commentary on the name. Perhaps my mind is more twisted than most, but why name an event that sounds like you made it to 3rd base on your date with a woman named Kailua? Dining Out with Friendly Food Trucks and Drag Racers with Dancing In Enchanted Lakes. Fix'd.

(After our last disastrous outing, I can't believe he would want to do this again!) In order to avoid another potentially embarassing situation for him, and to make him look PLAYA COOL, instead of just YELPER COOL, I thought it would be best if I brought along a small posse with me (Traci H., and Theresa S.) to check out the boneless kalbi plate from Grandma G's at the Merchant Street Market. Val must have been nervous because he was sweating when he met the three of us there. So, go read Val Y.'s review of this same experience, and click "COOL" and send him lots of "HOT STUFF" compliments because TODAY is VAL Y's BIRTHDAY (10/26/11!). WHEN/WHERE: 2nd and 4th TUESDAYS 11am-2pm at the corner of Bishop and Merchant Street, in the Davies Pacific courtyard: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/q9KQKUGDr0hyBYNKQQezQA?select=rDAjazQFrThepxLC3hNIng COME EARLY! I got there at 11:10 exactly, and there were no lines. By 11:12 there were 8 people in line at Grandma G's and 6 at Stacey's Lau Lau. (where did they all come from in 2 minutes? We don't know.) DIVIDE AND CONQUER: Similar to Eat the Street, the more the merrier. Traci stood in line at Grandma G's, Theresa stood in line at Stacy's and I walked over to Chef Sean at Soul to get my fried chicken. We were 3 women on a mission. But where did Val go? He bailed on us and was checking out the healthier alternatives at Honolulu Gourmet Foods. Just a tip for you GUYS....when your women are ordering things with names like Kalbi, buttermilk fried chicken, Dynamite chicken and guava chicken, DO NOT ORDER A SALAD! It will make us feel like complete gluttons. BRING $$: Looks like everyone's price point is around $9-$10 so it's not exactly cheap plate lunches, but you get a ton of food! There are more vendors than this, but we ordered: Grandma G's Boneless Kalbi plate $9 (HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! This is absolutely fantastic! And the honey mustard dressing is delicious).
