The club now finds home on the emerging side of Digbeth, where many other venues establish hiding places from the usual taxi drop offs. In other words, be prepared to explain to taxi drivers exactly how to get here before starting off, otherwise you'll be driving around the back streets of Digbeth for hours! The club itself looks like a Tardis in the form of a small house from the roadside. But in fact, the venue is home to three large rooms. The basement, the main room and the newly extended rooftop. Nights on the rooftop are the perfect events for smokers, as they don't have to leave their position or miss out on any of the music. There is also food served on the roof, which to me is ingenious. Many times I have had to walk miles after a club night, in hope to find an open takeaway. But at PST, you don't have to go anywhere. To me, PST is Birmingham's defining reggae club, and holds a reggae and dub night every Thursday on the roof. These nights are always packed full of exceptionally friendly people, and the whole ethos behind the venue name People Stand Together (PST) also reflects this welcoming atmosphere perfectly. You really will struggle not to fit in here, and if you enjoy the sounds of underground music, then PST is definitely the venue to be at. I personally enjoyed a psychedelic trance night in the main room called Kanyini, which transported me back to what I'd except the 90s dance club scene to be like. Fluorescent walls, glow sticks and adrenalin driving beats!

PST is the only club in Birmingham that I can officially and honestly say has 'roots'!…read more Seeing as I love funk, reggae, soul and all other classic tunes that puts all this modern malarkey to shame - PST is the place to come and soak up the good vibrations. Everyone I have ever come across there are some of the soundest, wildest and most chilled people I have ever met, they are enjoying life to the full, with some cool beverages, the occasional salt-fish patty and the finest music. I have witnessed a pop-up break dancing crew on one of the funk nights when there was a lot of 'old-skool' break being mixed, I did attempt to participate and whipped out my best wild, arm-flailing two-step. Once I realised I had just swiftly exhausted my whole dancing resume whilst they were still spinning on their heads, I decided to retire to the rooftop yard and lay-low for a while to avoid embarrassing myself any more. The rooftop yard just adds to PST's supremacy as a venue - the party goes on up there too when the skies are clear. PST is a venue that's on another plane in comparison to these big establishments - it's got character, authenticity and a crowd unlike any other. Get to PST and revel in the best vibes that Birmingham has to offer.

This pub is located in Deritend/Digbeth and has the look and feel perfect for Brum's Irish Quarter. It has a real sense of place and history, as should any pub with its own theme song (seriously, check it out on youtube). The landlord John has built a reputation as a friendly face of the pub and representative of the neighbourhood. In a sea of bars and gastropubs serving £12 'craft' cocktails, the Spotted Dog serves as a landmark of sanity. The pub has a charmingly worn interior that is ridiculously clean for a boozer in Digbeth. Table tops adorned with candles sit inside, while a side door through the lounge exits onto what is probably the best covered garden in the whole of Brum. The drinks menu is simple yet satisfying. You'll find some of the usual suspects like Guiness on draft in addition to several rotating real ales. Liquor covers a breadth of options, with regular specials. On jazz night (Tuesday), Bushmills Irish Whiskey can be had for a pound and certain ales for £2.50. Even on a normal night, The Spotted Dog is one of the best values in Birmingham. The pub opens at 5PM most nights (sometimes later in the winter). Crisps are offered as the only snack, so you'll want to plan for food accordingly. The customer service is above expectations. A friend and I stopped in one evening right as the pub opened to sip some whiskey. As the first and only customers for over an hour, John shared with us some special Polish vodka a personal friend had brought to him. One of his bartenders asked what music to put on over the sound system and his reply was 'anything you want, as long as it's Bo Diddley'. These types of charmingly quaint memories are what makes The Spotted Dog so special for me. If you are in search of a proper Irish pub experience, look no further than The Spotted Dog.

It gives me hostel / shared living room vibes. Staff were friendly and explained the 2 for 1 drink specials. We just went for an easy beer and wine before heading somewhere else for dinner. It's a decent spot for a quick drink or sitting outdoors on a sunny day. It would be nice if they tried to clean up the indoors a bit more although it was bright and cheery with good music.

The bar is very elaborately designed with large chandeliers and art work on nearly every surface or wall. The designers/owners have definitely adopted the 'more is more' approach here and it has worked well for them. The bar feels cosy and full of personality with welcoming bar staff and an equally lovely outside area/courtyard. As we all know happy hours/two for one offers on cocktails are a very good thing....Loft lounge has a two for one on selected cocktails most evenings after work! The drinks are well made and taste as they should, on our last visit our drinks did take a little while to come but the bar was very busy so this was completely understandable. If you are in the area loft lounge is well worth a visit. Great for meetings, lunch or as I mentioned a little after work drink with friends. On weekends the DJ's are also pretty good so this place also makes a good start to any night out. Ill definitely be back soon.
