When I grabbed the pastries, they didn't feel warm but since they were so busy I didn't want to ask for them to be heated. So we took the drinks and not warmed pastries over to the park across the street. Once we got settled I looked to see which hot drink was the matcha, which neither turned out to be matchas. Both were the abuelitas mocha. Which, don't get me wrong, it was delicious. However, I was bummed out that the pastries were not warmed and they got my drink order completely wrong. I might give them another shot on a weekday when they are less busy, but I was disappointed with today's experience and do not have very high expectations if there ends up being a next time.

The reason why I'm leaving this review is because he didn't bother to ask the gal next to him (She takes my order all the time). He didn't even try to ponder if this was a possibility. We are always welcomed with a smile and were even told on one visit in particular, "enjoy our time here." Often times, coffee shops make you feel like an uninvited guest. And if you're familiar with einspanner, essentially it's coffee with whipped cream in it. So that's exactly what I went for. The café is clean and trendy. The baristas are very sweet and after a few minutes my drink was ready. I gave it a little mix and took my first sip. I will say the coffee itself is strong. You can definitely taste the coffee, but it's something about the thickness of the whipped cream that didn't quite mix well with the coffee even after a good mix, the coffee is on the thicker side, which I didn't love. I believe I'm more of a cloud top person that's more airy, which is easier to get mixed in than a thicker cream. maybe I'll love it if I get it hot so that way the cream melts into the hot coffee, but having it iced isn't for me. I'll come back when it starts to get cold outside.

Kei Concepts empire expands again!…read more I'm not from the OC so I can't comment too much like I can do for the Chubby Cattle Empire, but it's neat to see their businesses pop up and the vast variety that they endeavor to do culinary-wise. This place has been on my friends want to visit list and I wanted a pick me up and to grab a bite to eat to start out our day. It's located at the corner of an already fairly busy plaza with lots of eateries and other businesses there so parking can get a bit tough, but we were able to wait for somebody to leave and take their parking. Just keep this in mind if you go at an even busier time of day. There was a line to order, but there's different ways to order, either at their kiosk or with their cashier. While in line, you can take a look at their menu or at their merchandise which looks like it has the title card text from the Evangelion series. Very amusing. If you're local or are a fan, you can participate in their passport series and get, I believe, 6 stamps, to exchange for a tote bag. Cute art of some original characters and a tiger. Maybe they can duke it out with a Korean smoking tiger if they truly wished to do so. There's light bites here, fridge items, desserts, coffee, teas, matcha, etc. Some counter and bar seating, outdoor seating (all taken and super limited, but it was cute and pink), and lots of tables and chairs throughout, but it was packed when we went and packed when we left. Easily a very popular place to hang out or to get some work done. For our visit, we got the: 1) Vietnamese Coffee Aussie Series: -This is a Vietnamese coffee with a milk soft serve on top and Milo powder on top. Sweet and indulgent dessert-like drink. Nice coffee taste to it. -I got to enjoy the milk soft serve before mixing it into the coffee. It's a coffee float if anything and you can't go wrong with it. It's not overly sweet even with adding everything to it and I was able to sip it and enjoy it for a bit afterwards too. I would like to try other versions of this too. 2) Classic Egg Sando: -It's very light, bread is sweet. -It's pre-packaged in a plastic container. I've had better egg sandos at other cafes and at the maid cafe. The mayo is very, very light, and it's more of a snack than anything filling. I'd skip this. 3) Popcorn Chicken: -Asked for their five spice cayenne powder on the side and it comes with some yuzu mayo. -This was alright. Reminds me more of western style popcorn chicken in a nugget style, rather than the popcorn chicken that you would get at a boba place. Some of the pieces are in square pieces which is a bit strange looking. Slight crisp exterior, a bit bland even with pouring and shaking the entire powder onto it. Sauce made it a bit better. -Maybe getting the spicy version is the call. I took a sip of my friend's Banana Toffee Latte at no added sweetness to it. Nice subtle banana after taste. Slightly roasted flavor. Not too sweet or strong. Solid latte drink Drinks were good. Food was a bit of a miss, but I might give their pastas or baked goods a chance next time.

First, the good: As always with Kei restaurants, the food was delicious, plain and simple. Unique dishes with loads of flavor and high-quality cooking. You can tell a lot of thought goes into each dish. There's plenty more on the menu that we want to try. Ambiance was great, too. I love the decor and upscale vibe of the space. Service was super friendly. What needed improvement: While service was friendly, it was honestly lacking a bit. Order was taken and delivered very quickly, but we weren't really checked on and struggled to get our server's attention for water refills and the check. The space is beautiful, but they must've had some HVAC issues the night we visited. To be fair, we were in the middle of a heat wave, but it was WARM in there. I assume they had some back doors open to air the space out, because we also had some pretty annoying fly and gnat issues at our indoor table. It was hard to enjoy the meal when we were sweating and constantly shooing bugs away from our food. Last, and this is just a bit nit-picky: the ceviche was so good, but wayyy too spicy for us. It must've been the pepper seeds. We felt it really overpowered the dish. Overall, I assume this was just an off night for the service/hvac issues, as we usually don't have those kinds of issues at other Kei restaurants. I still look forward to coming back for the great food, and hopefully those issues don't persist next time.
