Today, my wife and two young children, came in for coffee and a bagel. We asked for a toasted bagel with cream cheese, and the man behind the counter forgot to toast the bagel. I asked for a new bagel toasted, and he refused. He said he needed to charge me for the new bagel. After years of loyalty and thousands of dollars spent, this guy fought me tooth and nail, and would not toast me a new bagel. He said that I must pay for a new bagel. This guy was more concerned with two dollars, then keeping his customer satisfied, and doing the right thing. The other customers in the store were just as dumbfounded as we were. This guy did not give up, and he allowed me to reach my boiling point and walk out. He has officially lost our business forever, and forced me to spend time (which I never do) to write this negative review. He was the manager on duty, but not one of the people I typically see. Usually, we see the elder gentleman and his son, who are both very nice and know us by name. My wife and I intend on returning later today to meet with the owner and his family. They deserve to know this story. I have never been treated so terribly as a customer before. This guy does not deserve his job or any job in customer service for that matter. Then I ask for my sandwich, but they gave it to the other guy, who didn't order ahead of time and came into the store after me. Their response was "We don't take names when you order." Well ok, you pinpointed you're problem, but how is that supposed to make me feel any better about it? Anyway, I gave them 2 stars because they gave me my coffee for free. Not only did they have my favorite donuts, but their gluten-free section was impressively large, making it easy to find great options. The store itself was well-organized and simple to navigate, which made shopping a breeze. On top of that, one of the employees went out of their way to help me sign up for a savings card so I wouldn't miss out on any deals. As this was our first time at this store, I asked questions about their products, but she looked at me as if I were ignorant and refused to answer, or made believe she didn't hear me. Then, the girls ordered theirs. Where's the confusion? She clearly had no interest in being there working. She didn't even smile or apologize. She was extremely rude and asked me if I wanted to place another order. At that moment, I declined and left the store without retrieving the tip I had left in the jar when I paid. There was another person in the back, whom I assume was the manager. Surprisingly, she neither intervened nor offered an apology. This is not an appropriate way to run a business. Regardless of the quality of your product, the welcoming attitude reflects the overall image of the business. I did not find that at Playa Bowls in Denville, NJ. Therefore, my advice, don't patronize this store if you don't want to be treated as second class citizen.
