The ugly: -The guy behind the counter was working the whole store alone. He was very nice. He did not know how to work the mailing/shipping side. I'm not sure why the owner would leave an employee in the store alone especially when he doesn't know how to run all the services. I watched customers leave because of this. By the time the owner arrived he thought the people who needed a package mailed were going to be waiting on him... not a chance... -I ordered a sandwich, coffee, and a pastry and both were good. The cashier was also the cook. He did a great job with juggling everything but he should not have been left alone. I decided to take my items to go because I didn't want to watch him struggle while trying to have a peaceful lunch. - Food handling practices were not being followed but when you're doing it all, it's hard to remember not to use the same rag you wiped à table with on a dish you're about to serve. Or to wash your hands to avoid cross contamination. Or not sharing yourself with others food by properly covering while coughing or sneezing. Overall, worth a visit but not a place to run back to. The space is roomy with couches in the back, and plenty of people were working or studying, so it has a relaxed, productive vibe. I tried their lavender latte, oat milk latte (extra hot), and of course their drip coffee because you cannot judge a coffee shop without trying the drip. The drip was excellent, rich, well balanced, and tasted very fresh, clearly brewed fresh. The latte was just as good, creamy with proper foam and a smooth lavender flavor that did not overpower the coffee. The only small hiccup was that we were told the drinks would be brought to our table, but after waiting a bit I went up to grab them myself. I may have misheard, so it was not a big deal. Overall a great experience, comfortable atmosphere, plenty of seating, and genuinely solid coffee. I stopped in after lunch this time but will definitely be back to try their food next time.

They personally reached…read moreout to explain that they recently received guidance from the health department not to accept outside cups due to cross-contamination concerns, and I really appreciated them taking the time to explain that. They also shared that the employee helping me was in her first week, which gave helpful context to the situation. As a kind gesture, they sent me a $10 gift card, which I thought was very thoughtful. When I came back in to use it, they recognized my name from the situation and took the time to talk with me in person and explain everything again. That really meant a lot and showed how much they care about their customers. Customer service and communication go a long way, and I'm grateful for the way they handled everything. I'm looking forward to continuing to support them. Old review: Melby's has really great drinks and the atmosphere is honestly one of the reasons I keep going back. It's a cozy spot and the coffee itself is consistently good. That said, the customer service can be hit or miss. The employees often come across as a bit unpleasant, which takes away from the experience. One thing that's especially frustrating is their refusal to allow personal cups. Almost every other coffee shop I visit is happy to accommodate this, and it doesn't require much effort, many places simply set the cup on the counter and pour the drink without even touching it. It's a small thing, but it makes a difference for customers who are trying to reduce waste or just prefer using their own cup. I really do like Melby's drinks and vibe, but improving the customer service and being a little more flexible with simple requests like personal cups would make the experience much better.
