The food that was sitting in the tray was thrown away because it had been over 20 minutes. I was in shock but appreciative. The mashed potatoes & gravy were divine and the mac-n-cheese needed a tad more seasoning but it was good. The cook was so sweet. He made me feel welcome and he listened to make sure my order was prepared correctly. Huck's Kitchen is a 10 out of 10. They carry all the classic favorites, including Slurpees, Big Gulps, candy, roller-grill items, chips, and just about any snack you could want. They even sell firewood, which is an unexpected but useful option. I usually stop in for a Slurpee, but it's nice to know they have plenty of other snacks, drinks, and essentials available. The store was clean, restrooms are available for customers. Despite being on a busy street, the parking lot is easy to access and exit. My co-worker was ordering fried fish for lunch quite often and I was able to try it. They were frying fish to perfection. So I started ordering fish as well. The lady in seafood, Susie is who you want to ask for. She's super sweet and helpful and will assist you with getting your needs taken care of. The seafood department is small compared to other locations. The produce section is quite lacking. I prefer to purchase my fruit and veggies from another location or even another store. The bagged lettuce is usually watery even for bags dated out a week or two. The vegetables and fruit are poor quality. And the selection is slim compared to other stores. I do like that they have Dolly Parton's frozen food options and it's usually on sale. I do like a few of the Deitz & Watson lunch meats (Hot Honey Chicken, Black Forest Turkey and Buffalo Chicken), two solid options and uniquely flavorful. The pickles in the deli are old, not fresh and crisp as they should be. They are still $1. The Deli Manager, Julie is rude and super unprofessional and hostile towards her co-workers. We witnessed her yelling at an employee in front of customers, completely degrading and speaking down to him. If she's this comfortable acting like that in front of customers, this tells me that she's been doing this for awhile and getting away with these deplorable actions. Shame on upper management for continuing to allow this behavior. The sushi at the sushi station looks super questionable and you see it is not fresh. I'd advise going to Dierberg's. One saving grace is that I was able to find Cornish hens on sale for Thanksgiving as well as a boneless turkey with dark and white meat, also on sale.
