I was charged $2.09 for this.
Smaly K.

Stopped in to grab a small bag of chips after renting some redbox movies outside. The worker guy was mopping while I walked in. I found the bag of chips I wanted and went to the register. The guy just kept mopping. I waited a couple minutes, and decided to switch my bag if chips. Wait to the register and waited again. He did not stop mopping right away. I stood there waiting some more. And he finally came to ring me up. By then, I already had my $1.69 in my hand ready to pay. Then he says it's $2.09. I asked, $2.09? I thought maybe he was joking with me since the imprinted price on the bag said $1.69 and have never paid more than the printed price on a bag of chips. I didn't want to further question him, I was already annoyed and just wanted to get out of there. But I have never ever been to a store that has charged more than that imprinted price on a bag of chips. Come on, $2.09 for a small bag of chips?! I could just get the regular big bag for a little over that price!

No public bathroom, cashier barely speaks English. Big disappointment, even by Seven Eleven standards

Yet again, exactly what you'd expect from a 7-Eleven...just okay. The ownership could easily do more with this store.

Prices are shockingly high and staff lack people skills. Support other local businesses instead.

Second Love - Cozy cafe vibes

I dropped in here when they were just finishing construction and the owner proudly showed me around…read morethe premises, to include the outdoor patio. I made a mental note to check it out when I returned to Des Moines. What a terrific cafe! Warm, cozy, abundant natural light, and cool music playing in the background. The variety of seating g options is perfect: bar stools in the window to people watch, small tables to enjoy the coffee or do some work, more bar stools adjacent to the prep area to watch the action or engage with the baristas, or outside to enjoy the sun and sights Really welcoming and friendly team. It's clear they love the product and the cafe. I asked about the blending coffee being used and it was well explained. They even offered me a (generous) taste of the drip version, which I typically don't like. Good flavor! Coffee is terrific. I ordered a macchiato, which was poured perfectly. When the barista noticed a bit had spilled on to the saucer, he changed it out before serving. A lovely attention to detail. The pastry was tasty. Pricing is really fair. The olace is well visited and has a really terrific neighborhood vibe. It would be easy to make this your go-to hang out!

The Quarterdeck - Breakfast Sandwich!!

We came by after happy hour at Anthony's and listened to a live set of great music. The place was packed, but everyone is friendly and was willing to share their table with us. We had a great time and I strongly recommend coming by the Quarterdeck to chill and listen to live music. Can't believe it took me 20 years of living in Seattle to find this place. So, don't repeat my mistake.

Quarterdeck is what I like to call a "come for the vibes, stay for the drinks, eat... somewhere…read moreelse" kind of place. I stopped by while visiting Seattle and while the food situation was a bit chaotic (they had rotating menus because they were out of a few items), I ended up ordering a kimchi-inspired sandwich that I wanted to love...but it just didn't do it for me. Not inedible, maybe a 2/5, but I'd definitely try something else next time. My friend ordered what I think was the Garden Harvest Wrap (a staple on the menu), and that was more of a 3/5. Both dishes were served cold (intentionally), which I think made a difference, I could totally see them being much better if they were warm. Now let's talk about what is worth it: the mimosa flight. SO good. Like dangerously easy to sit there, sip through all of them, and forget any minor food disappointments. But honestly, the real star here is the ambiance. You're right on the water with the most effortless, breezy, coastal energy. Boats drifting by, sun hitting just right, people lingering over drinks--it's giving main character energy in the best way. I found myself wanting to stay way longer than planned and even doing some work while there. This is absolutely a spot I'd come back to, just with a strategy: eat before or after, and come here to sip, sit by the water, and take a little walk on the dock. 5 stars for the vibes alone
