ooo look another 5 star review from a 1st time yelper! gotta start somewhere right? wish i was elite and had cool little "elite" sign to show that my opinion matters more.
i didn't place anywhere in the San Jose karaoke off, i mean maybe if it was American idol, placing top 12 might add some karaoke know how. and since i didn't compete, i don't really have the experience to judge a karaoke bar. :( aaw, sad now. lol
my first karaoke experience was in a Denny's bar in Salinas,, there were some awesome singers, wonderful talent, and some people who just wanted to sing. But their choice of music was so not mine. when they gave me the mic for the last song of the night, that was how we cleaned the bar out, cause ac/dc and mariachi just doesn't mix. would i go back knowing that? yes, cause it was my only option. when i moved up to San Jose in 2005, i got taken to dive bar on Wednesdays for karaoke.and it was a blast! that was where i was come hell or high water on Wednesdays for a good amount of years. then a friend o mine got me to go to bamboo. now, when i go to a new bar, there's only on thing i care about. rum. and they had it. so for those of you who care about other things like interior or crowds that go nuts over everything, just stop reading now and go try the place out for yourself. Im not one much for new places or anything with a "club" like fake environment. but after a while of going i started to make it my regular friday place. there is a point eventually. and then Saturday place. when the KJ at dive got the axe and the bartender left, there was really no reason to go anymore. the new KJ was less than satisfactory, waiting three hours to sing for my song because hot chicks and douche bags bribed him to put them up in rotation sucked hard. i know theres a new guy there now, but the magic left. after going to bamboo i noticed the difference between places like dive (which i do miss the old days terribly, and still show up every now and again because it is good bar) and bamboo. one difference is obvious, $1 for a song, i know there's allot of crying and "FAIL( like wiping on frogger in naxx fail?) " attached to that idea, but $1 to see exactly where i am and when im coming up and knowing that no big breasted whore bag is gonna get the KJ to bump her up or throw someone out, that's a pretty small price to pay. not to mention a pretty damn good and unique karaoke system. As for acoustics,.........KARAOKE! lolercopter, and agian lol. lol.....lol. is simon out in crowd where you have to sound like a recording studio?! come on...
Yes its a dive. i will make no attempt to say this is some high class elite VIP room up scale dress code 5000$ a drink establishment. it. is. a. dive. if you like the charm of a dive bar( not dive bar, which is not a dive, but won like second best dive bar? the hell?) then you should know what to expect.
The crowd: this one is a interesting observation, which in reality, has very little to do with the business itself. i mean you dont go into a resturant and say "there was a fat guy sitting at the table near me eeew" and expect that to relate to the business in anyway really? unless you, ya know, are looking for an attractive crowd, for some reason. cause your there for an attractive crowd for some reason. since i know alot of these people i can say that they are WAY higher caliber people than myself. every time i go there and be myself, they are nice to me and talk to me and treat me like i matter. ( wow this had been going on a while). and since me and my wife are one of the audience, i can say that one of us is quite attractive thank you very much, (since attractiveness is OBVIOUSLY a way to judge a bar when your lookin to have s...i mean sing).
all in all, im not the greatest voice of reason on earth, hell im not even in the reserve voice of reason brigade. should my opinion of a place matter? NO. should the fact that i have one review for 5 stars on a place i go to all the time matter? BIASED! BLATANTLY! should anyone's opinion besides yours matter? NO! but if paying $1 dollar for peace of mind on when you sing, strong drinks ( ask toshi for a zombie, toshi vs everywhere else i got one : TOSHI) and a crowd that will clap and cheer for someone who likes to sing for the FUN of it (no competitions, getting gals, douche bags or attention beggars), then by all means come down. if you are to cheap to throw down a buck, think your Gods gift to karaoke and we should bow down to regardless, sing for attention to get some one in bed that night, are just to full of yourself to shut the f up and have a good time, or are offended at the preceding statements, well...come down anyway, call me an asshole, can make up your mind. but please, don't judge a place by a website full of positive and negative bias, come down a few night, have a good/bad time, and get F***ed up in the mean time.
wow i am drunk, did i just write all that? read more
