Clean establishment, friendly service, and the experience/food was phenomenal! Will be going back.

This new buffet offered a good variety of delicious dishes in a pleasant atmosphere with friendly service during my soft opening dine-in weekday lunch buffet ($21.99). The lunch buffet included five fruits, 18 sushi varieties, nigiri (limited during lunch), hand rolls, steamed turbot fish, fried chicken, chicken skewers, beef skewers, beef short ribs, chicken and broccoli, pepper beef, General Tso's chicken, gyoza pork dumplings, vegetable spring rolls, crab rangoon, lo mein, fried rice, asparagus, green beans, fried catfish, seafood boil, kimchi, jumbo shrimp, french fries, crab salad, squid salad, grape tomatoes, miso soup, egg drop soup, tiramisu and cheesecake at the two buffet areas - one for entrées and one for fruits and desserts. They also offered 4 oz cups of Blue Bunny ice cream in a cooler near the exit for dine-in or to-go - nice! Everything I tried (just after they opened for the day) was fresh, tasty, nicely seasoned and at the appropriate temperature. I especially liked the chicken skewers. The seafood boil was a surprising and flavorful addition to the buffet. Everything was nicely labeled with only a few missing labels and errors as they continue to work on their buffet menu during the soft opening. I liked that the sushi labels included the name and ingredients so I could make informed choices. The dining area was clean and freshly remodeled with plenty of natural light, a mix of booths and tables, and contemporary background music, while the beverage and plate removal service was polite and cheerful. The manager was genuinely interested in feedback and was working to implement some of the recommendations from previous customers to improve the experience. The lunch buffet price seemed high compared to local competitors. I also wish they offered seaweed salad. Overall, I'm thinking 3.5 stars and rounding up for the good service. read more

Their team and management has done such a fantastic job with advertising that I was inclined to go. The staff was fine. They were having lighting issues and we were ~literally~ in the dark, which is not a problem. I feel more bamboozled by the food. Arrives at 1:50 on a Tuesday, left before 2:20... I was expecting us to see more of a lunch rush, maybe we just missed it, because most of the food was gone. Everything was practically empty and hot plates were cold. I really wanted to like this place. I really do. The restaurant is spacious, welcoming, and honestly one of the cleanest buffets I've ever been to. The food looked fresh, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. Unfortunately, the taste just wasn't there. Almost everything was very bland. The Korean galbi was dry, the udon needed extra soy sauce and salt just to have flavor, and the miso soup tasted mostly like water. So disappointing. read more

It's nice that the Kansas City area now has a dedicated sushi buffet. However, it's odd that there's no spider roll or mackerel nigiri/sashimi on the buffet line since almost every sushi restaurant has it on the menu, but otherwise the selection was decent. The hot food was alright depending on the dish but the short-ribs were a hit. Most of the time, the food on the hot line was lukewarm. The sushi was decent, but I wish the sushi rice had more rice vinegar in it since there wasn't enough in it. The dessert selection was tiny since there were only a couple options including two varieties of cheesecake, fruit, and cups of ice cream which was disappointing for variety. Besides that, it was nice inside to the point that it almost felt like a luxury modern buffet albeit without the extravagant costs. read more

BUFFETS ARE BACK and better than ever! 69 sushi is bringing some insanely good sushi rolls, fruit, proteins and desserts to this buffet. You walk in and are instantly greeted with a friendly hello and explanation on how the buffet works. The staff are constantly cleaning and refilling the buffet to ensure it's at its best when anyone walks in which I loved. And the vibe was open and clean! Absolutely recommend! read more

I went in expecting an all you can eat format where you still place orders and receive table service, this is a self serve buffet which I didn't have an issue with however I was overall not particularly satisfied with this restaurant, many of the rolls were very similar/basic and not the greatest quality, the only thing I considered exceptional was their steamed fish, everything else was run of the mill asian buffet quality to me, I personally wouldn't find it worth it to come here over any other asian buffets and especially not true AYCE experiences. read more

Went here for a soft opening and this is a new AYCE sushi spot in south OP. It's very spacious, clean and plenty of food to choose from. Went for dinner time and we beat the rush. There's raw, cooked, fried, and handroll sushi. Can't go wrong with the sashimi or nigiri either. Those were my favs. We learned that they do switch up their menu so one may have the previous day, and the next it's different. They also have your buffet regulars like, general tso chicken, crab rangoon, skewers, fried dumplins, salt and pepper jumbo shrimps, fried catfish, seafood boil and more much. Don't forget the fruits and desserts. We had the blueberry cheesecake and it was so delish. Don't forget to take an ice cream either. Happy grand opening! read more

Went for Tuesday peak lunch time with the whole family. Its day 2 of opening and Instagram made it look amazing. Unfortunately we were all quite disappointed. They had a lot of sushi rolls and they had all the standards. They had nigiri for lunch, but nigiri had a mountain of rice on them so you could barely taste the fish. I brought my kids with me thinking there would a lot of non-sushi options, but most of it was fried foods like crab rangoon, egg rolls, mozzarella sticks, fried hyoza, etc. The meat on a stick, beef, and other meat dishes were really dry. There were cooked fish options but they didnt have much flavor. They domt bring out a new plate of food until the previous one is completely empty so food sits out for awhile and gets dry. Dessert included oranges, pineapple, grapes, and honeydew. They have cheesecake and oreo cheesecake. The cheesecakes were pretty bad, but I doubt they make it themselves. The service was fine but everyone seemed pretty new. The restaurant itself was clean and the interior was nicely done. Sadly, I probably wont go again. read more

Decent sushi buffet with hot food items. My favorite dish is the cucumber roll without rice, and squeeze a lemon on top and it's delicious. There are raw oysters and crab legs, variety of sushi rolls and sashimi. A good fried food selection such as fried catfish nuggets, chicken wings, etc. would definitely recommend the tempura jalapeño popper: cream cheese and imitation crab. The staff is friendly and attentive. The music was volume was good so we can hear each other talk and not shout. For dessert there are cupcakes, chocolate cheesecake, and ice cream cups. Editing my review to 4-stars for having adequate feminine hygiene products. That is a major plus. read more

Came here for a weekend dinner and there was a greeter who opened the door for us. Immediately it felt like a nice touch. The space was very open and clean. The decor is modern and I like how the buffet is set around a large beautiful pink tree. It's easy to get your food with plates around the circle. It is orderly because it is set in a circle. Staff checked on us several times and were quick to clear out empty plates. The sushi was enjoyable and they had a lot of variety. I left full and happy. They also have dessert like fruit and cheesecake and ice cream. I would definitely come back. read more

Let's start with the good: the Cajun boil is done well and the flavors permeate through every kernel of corn and flesh of the potatoes. The Cajun boil is easily the best entree of the buffet. Prepackaged ice cream, cheese cake, and full-size store bought cupcakes distinguishes their dessert from a Chinese buffet. Then the bad: the sushi. Seafood for the sushi was rubbery, flavorless, and I never knew rice could be so dense. I would hate to shake hands with whomever compacts their rice because i'd probably have all my bones broken in the process. The Chinese food on the bar was ok but this is a sushi place first and foremost (it's in the name). Because they didn't do sushi right (worst part of their menu) and this is a sushi place, they have to take a huge hit to their rating. read more

We came here for dinner tonight hoping for a decent meal, but unfortunately we were very disappointed with the food. We eat out at least twice a week and genuinely enjoy trying different places, but this experience easily ranks among the worst we've had. The seafood boil was overwhelmingly salty, the sushi roll was bland, and the egg drop soup had almost no flavor. The short rib was especially bad--honestly inedible. On top of that, they offer ramen noodles but provide no signage or menu information about it, which was confusing. The only positives were the clean dining room, but those alone don't make up for the food quality--especially at these prices. If it weren't for that, we likely would have left shortly after arriving. Needless to say, we won't be returning. There are plenty of better dining options in Overland Park that are well worth your time and money. read more

The weekday dinner buffet was $30 and they automatically added a 20% tip (for a self-serve buffet!) so $36 meal that was nothing special. No crab legs, just the regular buffet items. Kind of a strange moment when we were paying and server suggested we take some cheesecake. They were close to closing, so we assumed he meant take-out. Does that offer include the last of the California Rolls? Manager said NO TAKEOUT so why did server ask us to take cheesecake? It was very odd and awkward but then we had to ask for receipts and discovered they'd added a mandatory 20% tip without telling us, so we left feeling confident that we would not return to 69 Sushi. The non sushi options like the lo mein noodles was bland and not very good. Some items also weren't available for lunch service which was a bit of a bummer. The place was clean though. I went in for dinner. Sadly the whole experience was not great. Upon walking in, servers were outside in front arguing about who was a better server? So weird. I honestly got the ick using the same tongs for the tray of different sashimi's. Over all I should know better than to try a buffet for sushi because everything tasted dry and honestly hard to swallow down. It all sat in room temp.
