Papa Ted's Truck - Crazy in a Jar Stacheball (Rose, elderflower and peach)

SENSORY F*CK*NG OVERLOAD…read more That's what I think everytime I chat about Papa Ted's. Hot damn have Dawn and her team thought of everything. Reusable jars and straws? check Reusable jars and straws you can keep? check ZERO artificial flavors? check 100% vegan? check One of the best snoballs you'll ever have? CHECK Seriously, Papa Ted's is like New Orleans meets the foodie scene of Los Angeles. The passion and history of NOLA is there but with the health consciousness of LA and trends. These snoballs are not only delicious but they're so pretty. Dawn, yes THE DAWN RICHARDS from Danity Kane and her solo music career, is the proud owner of Papa Ted's. She founded and created Papa Ted's in honor of her father and grandfather and made it a point to be 100% vegan as she wanted to create an experience that was as healthy as possible for everyone to enjoy. Papa Ted's values is all about empowering the BIPOC and LGBTQIA communities, as well as, women. Totally a safe space. The snoball I enjoyed had lavender seeds, fresh bits of citrus within the syrup, and I was even able to try their other flavors before deciding. Papa Ted's also sells savory foods but I had to stay away from them due to my allergens of coconut and almond. Every flavor I had kept making me dropping my jaw, I totally loved their "Fall in a Jar". These snoballs don't have the crazy sugary rush of classic snoballs, they're artisanal and honestly could be a mocktail on it's own at some of the finest bars around town. What's pretty cool about Papa Ted pop-ups is that it's not just food. Dawn and her team also empower other local entrepreneurs by providing live music, artistry, and vendors. It's a party y'all (socially distant and safe of course). The whole team wears masks and gloves btw! I'll be back y'all!

What makes these snowballs so special is that they are vegan and organic. I had the jalapeño, watermelon stacheball. Good blend of flavor that surprised the taste buds. I also had their vegan sausage biscuit sandwich. Fluffy biscuit paired with honey, DELICIOUS. You can find their pop-up locations Instagram. The staff members were super personable and entertaining. Great customer service.

We stopped at the market because a Yelp search yielded another restaurant with some good reviews…read moreand oysters (which is what my Dad was really after). What a great find! It was wonderful wandering around checking out all of the eat-in options, the take-away selections, and better yet, just having such a relaxing, bright, clean place to eat. From PDR in particular, I got their brussels sprouts salad, and it was delicious. Served cold, they were shredded, lightly dressed, and served with some goat cheese & beet puree. It was a large portion, enough for us all to share with some other items, and I'd definitely recommend trying if you like brussels sprouts. The guy who I placed the order with was also very nice and ended up bringing it to me even though we were seated across the way at a different place. Give them a try; you won't be disappointed!

At one point they had short ribs on the menu. It was served with butter beans, cherry tomatoes, and braised greens. It was a very good dish that made you feel like you were sitting at Grandma's table. The beet and mozzarella salad that they do is a nice light snack. I'm not a fan of beets at all but in this salad I guess I do like it. Probably the best dish that I've ever had from PDR is the braised pork shoulder. It was served over creamy cheese grits and braised greens. It really is the perfect dish. Everything works well together and it is something that I get over and over when I go. The cold fried chicken sandwich is good. But it is... different. The piece of chicken on the sandwich is cold so it takes some getting used to at first, but it's not bad. The tacos are pretty good too. When you're roaming around St. Roch trying to figure out what to get I recommend trying PDR.

I got to met Tabitha and her daughter today at St. Roch Market! They were both really lovely…read morepeople!  Tabitha is the owner of this business, and she is SO helpful and knowledgeable about all of her plants!  She gave me some great tips on how to care for them. She always gives people her business card to make it easier to contact her if you go home and find yourself with more questions! The business was transported to the market via bus.  This was a cute silver bus with the inside renovated to become a little showroom for plants! Absolutely adorable. There were numerous types of plants there of all different sizes, but I got a mint and pothos plant (complimentary with my Yelp Elite Perk).  I also purchased a bigger bromeliad plant as well with a beautiful orange bloom.  They all look super well-taken care of and healthy!  Cross my fingers, I'm hoping they stay that way once I get them home! I didn't see all of the prices on the plants, but from what I saw, they were reasonably priced.  A lot of them were under $10. I'd spend that much buying plants from a big box store, but getting it from Tabitha, the plants are probably in better shape for the same price. Plus, it's always nice to go local!

She had a nice selection available outside on the table, but then she surprised us when she took us onto the bus and we saw that she had even more plants available. She's very knowledgeable about her plants and she will help you find something that fits your skill level and your environment (I don't have a lot of natural light in my apartment or office). I ended up leaving with not only my elite event goodies, but also two peperomias. Excited to see the future of Root Life Plant Nursery and I will definitely be returning for more plants and reaching out to Tabitha with my plant questions.
