First off, stop the presses. Let me set up the scene for you. I was headed to Sephora and wanted to…read moresee if my cousin and his wife were available and in the area. Turned out they were headed my way and 30 minutes later, we met up and ended up having dinner here. Synchronicity- Check! It was a perfect Spring day and since we had the dog with us, we were seated outside and in the sun. We started with a white wine and ordered shrimp toast, scallion noodles that came with a fried egg, shishito peppers, chili pork and garlic dumplings and an assortment of dumplings- all of it I cannot even name. All I'm sure of that as the dishes were coming out one by one, they were beautifully presented, and every portion that I had for myself was amazing. And this wasn't even the alcohol talking-- it was pure love of the flavor that I was experiencing in my mouth. Not only were we sitting in the setting sun's warmth and glow, but we were having catch-up conversation and enjoying our meal. It was just perfect. Now the food. First was the shishito peppers. Flavor-10/10. Scallion noodles: 10/10. Shrimp toast-- please don't judge me, but the first thing I was thinking of WTF is a shrimp toast? But I was open to everything. That happened to be one of my most favorite items of this meal. It was crispy bread with flattened shrimp inside and there was a spicy mayo dip on the side and oh my God-- that was just bomb city! Then came with the XLB combo, soup dumplings and my favorite one was the tom yum. They were all soup dumplings and each one was a delectable perfect on its own and no side dishes needed. Food- Amazeballs. Ambience- hello, 4th St Berkeley vibe. Service- friendly and helpful! Returning? Goddamn right I am!!!

We waited about 15 minutes after putting our names on the waitlist, and no one greeted or seated us even though the waitress saw us. Another party even had to flag down a waitress, which was surprising since there were only a 3 tables occupied but 2 servers on the floor. We were eventually seated, though. As for the food, the seared bao wasn't fully pan-fried and tasted pretty plain. The wagyu XLB seemed freshly made, but the flavor could definitely be improved. My favorites ended up being the string beans and the sweet and spicy wings, which aren't even their main focus. The wings were crispy on the outside and still juicy inside, definitely the highlight of the meal. The restaurant is located at a nice area but the food needed to be worked on.

Cali Alley is one of my go-to spots... I'm constantly trying to convince people to meet me there…read morefor lunch, or telling them to just DoorDash it because it's that good. It's also one of those places that makes you want to stay. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and generous. Every time I come here, I tell myself I'll pace myself... and every time I fail because it's just that good. The burgers are loaded and perfectly balanced, the fries are always crisp (never soggy, which is rare), and everything tastes high-quality and made to order. You have to try the chicken and waffles. The waffle batter tastes homemade and the butter takes it to another level... it's one of those dishes you keep thinking about after. I'll even DoorDash it all the way to Jingletown. The patio setup is really well done... there's a mix of larger tables for groups and higher bar-style seating for smaller hangs. The wooden furniture and cushioned benches make it comfortable, and they've got heaters for colder days and umbrellas when it's sunny, so you can usually pick your ideal spot. You order at the window and then just hang out while you wait... it's a relaxed flow and the food comes out pretty quickly. The staff are always kind and welcoming, and the whole place has a relaxed, homey vibe with really good music. Highly recommend... just come hungry.

The food always looked really good, but for whatever reason I always ended up ordering from somewhere else. Well, I finally did it. I finally ordered from Cali Alley, and all I have to say is, why did I wait so darn long? Door Dash was having a 2-for-1 deal on the Cali Alley Burger, so I ordered one of those (and got another for free) , as well as on the small mac and cheese, so I ended up with two of those as well. I got fries as he side for the burgers and saved the second burger and mac and cheese for the next day. I also bought a small side of veggie fried rice for lunch later in the week. OK, let's start with the fries ... wow. Super crispy. Don't know what they do to them, but I think I almost ate all the fries that came with one of the burgers before I even touched the burger. The fries seemed to have a coating like some fries do to make them extra crispy on the outside. Whatever it was, it made them so good, I couldn't stop eating them. I was almost too full for the burger. But who are we kidding? If there is one thing I am good at, it is eating more than I should. The burger, which is described on Door Dash as "char grilled, fresh ground brisket and short rib burger, served on a toasted brioche fun with crisp lettuce, tomato onion marmalade and garlic aioli" was thick and incredibly flavorful. I couldn't stop eating that, either. It was that good. I ordered it medium, and it was pretty pink, but it was sooooooo flavorful, and all the toppings worked well together. I didn't get any cheese on it because I wanted to try to burger by itself and not mask it with cheese. I might try adding cheese next time, but honestly the burger is so good, I almost wouldn't want to cover up its flavor with cheese. Oh, I almost forgot. When you order on Door Dash, you can opt to have them include a small side of their chocolate-chipotle bbq sauce, and I highly recommend that you get it. It's a really interesting flavor and is good for dipping the fries in. I didn't try putting it on the burger, but that might be good, too. The mac and cheese was OK. It's important to note that I enjoyed the flavor but it is more of an eggy consistency than a saucy mac and cheese if that makes sense. It has a nice kick of black pepper, which I liked, though. The vegetarian fried rice was also fine but could have used a little salt. All that to say, don't be like me and procrastinate, get the Cali Alley Burger and fries ASAP.

Their carnitas is above the Goldilocks standard of having a chew to it without the dryness that some spots overlook. While not as succulent as the carnitas, the al pastor is also tasty, in my opinion. For a truck spot this definitely takes the cake. 4/5 burritos and 4/5 beers for the drunchies crowd (if you can find the truck!).

I got one camarones (shrimp for us gringos) taco and found it really tasty w Poco de Gallo, onions, cilantro. Points off for showing $3 for one taco on sign then charging me $5. "It is a big one" was the response when I asked about that. Why not change your sign to = what you actually charge? But it hit the spot & I asked for "as spicy as you've got" and they delivered on that. A level of heat not overwhelming to someone like me who loves scorpions, ghost, Carolina Reaper, 7 Pot etc but plenty of heat. 3 stars I liked it but haters gonna hate.

Rebecca was running the truck with her husband, and they were warm, friendly, and hard-working. That same care reflected in the food. Comforting flavors, big portions, and just what we needed. ---- Food ---- The hot dogs here are big, delicious, and fantastic value for the price. Wushu Dog: Loved this one. Inventive and delicious. Great texture, topped with pork sung and crispy cabbage, plus katsu sauce and Japanese mayo. Savory, crunchy, and satisfying. Sumo Dog: Japanese curry beef chili with cheese and fresh scallions. Hearty, comforting, and perfect for that chilly evening. Fried Foods: We didn't try, any but they serve fries and potstickers too. The fries seemed to be a crowd favorite at Great Notion Brewery next door (which is partnered with Dojo Dog). Definitely getting them next time. Rebecca told me she enjoys experimenting with new dishes, and the creativity shows. Looking forward to trying more! ---- Drinks ---- We didn't but drinks as we were enjoying beer at Great Notion, but Dojo Dog also offer drinks like milk tea. ---- Bonus ---- As I mentioned, they partner with Great Notion, one of our FAVORITE bars in the Bay with the best smoothie beers and stouts. You can bring your Dojo Dog inside and pair it with their awesome beers. Inventive hot dogs + beer = awesome evening ---- Vibe ---- Cute little food truck, family-run charm, friendly service, and an endearing hole-in-the-wall feel. The whole setup feels local and community-driven. In fact, it was originally created by Berkeley students. Very cool. ---- Overall ---- Amazing hot dogs, great beer next door, friendly owners, inventive sides, and a fun, low-key vibe. It will hit the spot every time.
