Of course it's not in a terrific location, but it's mostly clean and safe. Lots of busses to get onto from here. There's a large area for shelter while waiting for one. A better than expected location, and it's usually pretty fast coming or going. It serves the Orange Line. The station is located in Gage Park. Even though it has a bad history, it's still an improving area. This is at 49th and Western. Best about this is how fast it is to get through here. This is the one that goes all the way to Midway, the other Chicago airport that gets unappreciated. Getting there is a lot faster. Stops like this are one of the reasons. It has fewer, meaning the trains come a lot more often. This station is pretty clean for as busy as it gets, and it doesn't have a bad smell. Getting to Midway is convenient from here. It's only a few stops away, and if you're getting off here there's lots of busses to take you places. There's usually not a long wait for trains.

Entering a tunnel. Altogether launching into unknownness with my eyes hurting from the glare. Friends and colleagues keep talking at me, pressing their words against me, pulling their ideas out of their pockets and dangling them before me. I can't quite make them out. This blur. This dimness. This muted world feels like a sleeping hand grasping door knobs. Commuting in a circle behind my eyes, pacing, I await the knowledge of light; the first glimpse. Just lately, this dimness has closed around me and held me like a pool of warm spring water. Honestly, the comings and goings of us all are just so damn hypnotic. It pushes at the eyes like drum flashes of light till we dance away into a numbness of sorts. If you get a chance, balance your gaze out the window of a moving bus and fix your eyes on the air just 6 inches beyond the glass. Don't focus, don't grab a look at any particular thing, just let it float there and wait for your sight to disappear. Not for your eyes to close, but for your thought about your sight to disassociate and relax. There. Right there. Can you see it? Beyond focus? The eyes do you see, the mind sees. The eyes are the tool, like true bus is a tool, or your shoes. The mind sees, 6 inches past the window, a dimness so understandable and delightful; a messy underbelly of life where interpersonal politics matter little. It might be blinding, but it is oh so glorious once we release ourselves from the prison of expectation. Pull the cord and get off.

The CTA should combine routes #120, #121, #122, and #123 into a single, efficient route that (miraculously) wastes fewer resources than the four individual, pointless routes. Also, hooray for the CTA: supervisors consistently tell tourists that all four go to Navy Pier at all times of the day. Fail.

82 Kimball-Homan Bus - This driver will just ignore you while you're being assaulted by an unstable male passenger.

The bus was packed so there wasn't anywhere for me to go which made him hostile. I told him there's nowhere to move and he got in my face and screamed obscenities again. I told the bus driver I was being harassed and he just told me to "calm down" and move to the rear. Really? A customer physically pushes someone, screams and becomes hostile and bus drivers just ignore it? Good to know your bus drivers ignore a woman being harassed by an older, bigger dude. The driver pretty much turned a blind eye to a situation that could have ended up worse if I didn't get off the bus in fear of my safety. This man was clearly unstable and hostile, and could have easily done this to a child or elderly person. How scary.

Ever get stuck in one of those infinite recursive greetings?…read more "Hello, how are you?" "I'm good, how are you?" "I'm fine, how are you?" "I'm good, how are you?" It happens to the most courteous and the most absent-minded of us, a natural inability to stop a cycle of reflexive knee-jerk pseudo small talk. I had one of those conversations with the driver of the #82 Kimball-Homan, except I think he meant it. He smiled and spoke cheerfully *both* times I asked him how we was. This is generally a very pleasant bus. There are some trying times to be sure (45 minute wait once last year), but with nothing at the two adjacent divisible-by-400 north-south streets Kedzie and Central Park, this bus is absolutely *key* for traversing the midwestern belt of this midwestern city. One time, a woman got on the bus pushing a luggage case rigged up with an elaborate spotted cardboard dog with its paws reaching around an empty bowl and a cartoon bubble saying, "I'm begging so my owner doesn't have to." She was on the bus for a good five minutes, mumbling some pleasant eccentricities to herself, which was quite a break from the more threateningly-self-mumbled eccentricities you sometimes hear on some other bus lines. Luck of the draw, maybe, but I usually enjoy this ride.

Cta Bus - Just can't get Yelp to add correct bus name w/route #--or that it is a bus! They changed category to "bus station" - there's a difference.

Yelp changed nearly everything but the website when I opened this business page. I have tried to correct information twice without success as of 11/23/2019. I am surprised that Yelp keeps asking me to write a review since I get the feeling that they don't want me opening pages for CTA buses. There are a few other CTA bus pages that I opened and Yelp changed to inaccurate information, so I just figured they really don't like business pages for buses. So, here's my review for the 51 51st CTA Bus: *This bus runs east and west on 51st Street between Kedzie Avenue and Wentworth Avenue. *On Kedzie, the west end of this bus route, it goes between 51st St and 48th Pl. to the Orange Line Station, which is the turnaround. *The east end of this bus route is Wentworth Avenue and it goes to the Red Line Station at 47th St. and the Dan Ryan Expressway. Take Note: This bus shares stops with other buses!! *On Kedzie between 51st St. and 48th Pl./Orange Line. Shares the stop at 50th & Kedzie with the #52 and #52a Kedzie bus. *On 51st Street between California Ave. and Western Ave., this bus shares stops with the #94 California bus that detours on 51st St. *I have never taken this bus east of Western Avenue, so I am not sure about any other shared bus stops along this route east of Western. It is always good to check the sign at the bus stop to know what to expect and to make sure you get on the bus you want! I have taken this bus a few times, usually in the afternoon. Unless you time it just right, you could wait 20 minutes or more. The buses have been clean and the bus drivers are usually quite pleasant. That pretty much sums this review up. Enjoy your bus ride! The downside is you have to use the ParkMobile app to renew your parking and the app is awful. The major issue is you can only renew your parking until midnight, or immediately after midnight. So if you're parking overnight, you must be awake at 12:01am to renew your parking for another 12 hours. Needless to say, 3 days in a row, that is unsatisfactory. Unfortunately the app does not let you know that in advance; you simply find out at 11pm when you want to go to sleep and realize you can only renew parking for 59 minutes unless you try again after midnight. My car was safe for the three days it was at Kedzie. But the surrounding are is a neighborhood to avoid at night, with all due respect. Note: the lot is on the north side of the CTA station. It is not marked with a sign at the entrance. It is hard to find by driving. But if you circle the perimeter of the station to the north you'll see it.

If the CTA really tried to make the OrangeLine as unique as they wanted it to be, they surely succeeded with this station, thanks to the flowers and trees here. AJ Wright just closed all their stores so it's gone. Overall, five stars all around. Great station on one of the CTA's safest L lines.
