It was highly regarded before that, and offers to make many of its menu items vegan. I was a tad disappointed that the bar promised some non-alcoholic hop water options but didn't seem to have any in stock, which may relate to the storm as well. This food truck, however, delivered the goods. It is not a speedy process, and when I tried visiting before they sold out of food before the end of the day so I came early this time. They give you a buzzer so you can wander around and order drinks. When my tofu arrived, it was mouthwatering. The amount of rice was quite large, but this was some aromatic rice, and the tofu itself tasted like high quality stuff and was bathed in an herbal, spicy flavor that I imagine is about as close to Thailand as you could get in Asheville. It was a lot of money for a modestly sized disposable bowl of food, but the quality merited a visit. I doubt I could have found myself eating anything more delicious. And yet, their other menu options remained on my mind.

Cassia is definitely one of the top ones. This is some of the best and most original Thai food I've ever had. They are a regular at Cellarest Beer Project in West Asheville. The food is prepared fresh, but the wait is not too long. And if you sit in the right spot, you may be able to enjoy the fragrant scent of Thai food as it is being prepared in their mobile kitchen. We started with the Firecracker sweet potatoes. These amazing little jewels are mashed sweet potatoes wrapped in the same coating as you'd normally have with a spring roll or won ton. They had a wonderful crispy outside with a flavorful sweet potato mash inside. The spicy mayo dipping sauce was excellent, but we also loved dipping these into the golden curry sauce that came with our curry duck. Where do you ever see curry duck BTW? The duck was cooked perfectly and not at all grisly or chewy. The curry sauce was absolutely incredible. Great flavor along with a nice kick. Between eating the duck and jasmine rice with the curry sauce and dipping some of the Firecrackers in it, there was literally not a speck of curry sauce left behind. We also had chicken Laab Gai. The mint leaves in this were really tasty and not overwhelmingly minty. The sticky rice was good. These came with cabbage leaves that you can roll the meat and rice up in to create a sort of Thai taco. This was good, but not at the same level as the duck curry. Maybe a bit more sauce would help. Prices are restaurant level but well worth it given this is restaurant-quality food or better. We paired the food with two fine beers from Cellarest. The Czech-style Moonglade Tmave pivo had great character. The Weald Oktoberfest Marzen lager was also excellent. Both went very well with the Thai food. Apart from maybe the dead of winter, this will be a place we go back to for more great Thai food.

First, there are nuts in the menu- pesto for staters. So we went ahead with it because you could see the food preparation. So we sat at the counter and as we watched we quickly realized there was a ton of cross contamination. I see the manager and I tell him that we placed an order and we have nut allergy and I only needed care with 2 items ordered. He said we dont have nuts, kinda matter of factly borderline rude and was trying to walk away so I say well you have pesto on the menu and that contains nuts. He says oh well we prepare pesto in a separate area and "I dont think" we've used it today. So I say thats ok I only need the gloves changed and putting a piece of the wax paper you use in the baskets as a barrier on the prep counter (mind you this is not a real protection but I knew this was going to be an issue) so he tells the young lady prepping as she clearly had already overhead my conversation because she looked back at me annoyed, she turns to him- slaps her gloved hands (in the middle of a different food prep) on her lap and says so I have to change everything?! I say (in the kindest way) hey no look if you can just put a barrier on the counter and just change your gloves I would be comfortable with that (I low key was not but again,I saw the potential for no prevention). She side eyes me and begins to slam things down. I cant verify if she changed her gloves or not because she stepped off to the side and returns to proceed to put the wax paper down but I had faith that she understood that someone life is at stake. She prepares the sandwich and basically slams the basket on the counter so that it slides at me. I said hey thanks for doing that, I appreciate it, she doesn't look at me, no response, nothing. I'm waiting for the rest of our order and the manager comes back around so I say (again, and kindly) hey thanks for doing that, he says Yeah, and she mumbles something under her breath so I say someone with food allergies can die from a simple cross contamination so its very important, thank you. I cannot believe that people working in the food industry are so poorly trained in the importance of food allergies and that a manager no less, did not properly address the proper way of handling food allergies and preparationof surfaces and food. Otherwise you should tell people when ordering that they are not willing to accommodate allergy issues and we would have left. Totally disgusting behavior.
