After going to the 50th State Fair, I thought it was a so-and-so experience. There was a wide range of games, food, and rides that definitely interested a lot of people to try out. All rides/foods/games all accepted coins or tickets, and once a person exchanges for tickets/coins, he or she is unable to exchange it back to cash. The thing I noticed the most throughout my experience at the 50th state fair was the service the workers provided was mediocre.
When I first entered, my boyfriend and I agreed that we would eat first since we were starving. We then waited in line and noticed we needed tickets to purchase our food, and so I waited in line while my boyfriend exchanged cash for tickets. After a long wait, we told the worker we wanted to purchase two hamburgers and she suggested that we should buy the cheeseburgers because it was "basically the same thing." However in my mind, I disagreed that they're anything alike but I'm assuming they would make us buy cheeseburgers just so they would avoid delay. In the end, I was hungry and losing patience with everything; I just wanted to purchase a hamburger and nothing else.
Similarly, it happened again when people wanted to purchase the Deep Fried Oreos. We were the last people to purchase the Oreos and the workers kept saying they were completely sold out. All they were doing was suggesting the Funnel Cake was available, which people decided to purchase later on. On the other hand while I was waiting for my order, I noticed they have immense amount of Oreos boxes on the side and enough batter to deep fry many more batches to serve for the customers. And to me, I just felt bad for the people who waited just as long as me for the same food. And about an hour later, I passed by the food truck and they were selling deep fried Oreos again.
After eating, I moved on to the games and we had to exchange cash for coins, which is what we probably expected. The games were intriguing and my boyfriend and I were involved with all the games. However, the only thing that bothered me was that the workers did not talk to us at all. It seemed like they were just ignoring us. For instance, during the Panda game (objective of game: a person throws a ball on either a white, blue, or red cup and wins a panda), my boyfriend and I waited our turn and made sure the kids went first and had their chance. However, when it was our turn, nobody acknowledged us and gave us any chance. Also, we tried circling around and calling out "hey" to see if anybody noticed us, but we were still completely ignored. And once we were noticed, the girl seemed pretty rude to even provide us a ball to throw. It was just terrible because I never remember my experience being like this. The workers I knew were so active and encouraging for people to keep trying. As of now, they were quiet, careless, and negligent.
I also just want to note that the workers at the Ferris wheel seem rude to us as my boyfriend and I exited. He accidentally pushed the panel back in and the workers gave us a mean stare like we did something wrong. Of course we didn't mean it but a worker should NEVER put a customer or a person at a state where they feel uncomfortable or at a position like it's his/her fault. My boyfriend probably didn't notice the look he was giving but I did and I just think it's ridiculous for reacting to something that was just an accident.
The food, games, rides, and the petting Zoo were fine. I just wish the 50th state fair was more alive with workers I knew when I was a little kid. Interacting with the community is important and I think if we're able to be actively involved, I would think everyone like myself would have a fun experience. read more
