I was so sad at first because this year, as I looked through my mail, I didn't see an invitation to my friend, Janet's annual Christmas party. Every year, I look forward to catching up with friends from the Jaycees. Over time, most of us got married and some of us had children. Our friend, Janet, was the glue holding us together. A couple of days ago, I received a message that Janet was trying to contact me. Turns out that she had mailed the invitation to my former house and it was returned to her. She invited me to her New Year Party - it changed because Christmastime is too crowded on her street and parking would be difficult! Yay! We still get to see our friends and catch up with everyone (and eat yummy food)! Hahaha! I didn't realize how popular this Christmas Display is. I've seen it on television and in the local newspaper. It's located in Waipahu, towards the western side of Oahu, near the Waikele Shopping Outlet. Anapau Place is an annual destination! Some of the homes are more decorated than others. The house across the street from Janet's house has synchronized music to go with the flashing lights. It's spectacular! If you have time, go and check it out! It will fill you with the holiday spirit! The show starts at 7pm nightly! Featured in Travel + Leisure: http://www.travelandleisure.com/slideshows/best-christmas-lights-in-every-state#idaho

Holiday displays- the contemporary perspective. Lights! Camera! Action! The holiday light extravaganza, 2015. With the high tech lighting decorations that are now available, the colorful holiday displays have taken on a whole new meaning and have gone to a whole new level. Like a miniature light show you might see in Vegas or Disneyland, the preparation and execution is just amazing! At the top of the holiday heap is the Anapau Place extravaganza that was featured recently on the ABC tv show, "The Great Christmas Light Fight". Truly a wonder to behold, Anapau place is closed off to public traffic during certain hours of the night till New Year's Eve for the public to enjoy. Several of the houses put on a syncronized music and light show that consists of several holiday tunes, from classic to contemporary. There are about 10 different tunes each night and they alternate between two lists of songs each night. Beautifully choreographed, this is a must see when in the Waikele area. A big Mahalo to Keith Yoshida and the great residents and friends of Anapau Place for making this free holiday treat available to the public. Tanks bruddah Keith! Was good!

WOW!!! Very impressive! Driving into Waikele said it all! The traffic going into this neighborhood was, "Cray, Cray!!! " I felt like I was driving around City Hall's Christmas lights. We found parking on the street about 2-3 blocks away. There were probably hundreds of people there already. So many people came out to see this christmas lane. Well worth it! As we walked towards christmas lane, we approached another lane filled with decorated homes. Almost the entire lane was decorated. Beautiful and bright lights. So nice... After visiting that lane, we walked over to Christmas lane the next street over. Oh, my! Unbelievable! There were homes decorated with homemade Christmas displays, light and music shows that synchronized with the displays and so much more to fancy your senses! Many photo ops for one and for all. My family and I enjoyed visiting Christmas lane. We look forward to visiting next year. This will definitely be on our Christmas lights list for years to come. Go, check it out next year.

Googled "Santa Lane Honolulu" on a whim hoping to get some search results for light shows/lit streets during the holiday season, and "Waikele Christmas lights" came up - a.k.a. (it turns out) "Christmas Lane". They even have a website (I believe it's on facebook) for more information. Anyway, we arrived on Christmas eve at 6pm to find parking, which was already very crowded. Everyone was lined up under the no parking signs, and we had to walk a few blocks to get to the main residentia intersection for the formal decorations. One cul-de-sac is completed blocked off and in full regalia (almost every house has put on spectacular lights, figurines, music and more), and the main home even puts on an incredible light show, 38 minutes long, with corresponding musical numbers (two shows with different musical numbers, alternating every other night), starting at 7pm. The street next over also is lit up in all it's glory, and a few other homes also on the periphery of them. Great for kids and adults. This is a private community event, put on for free and voluntarily by the neighborhood. There are signs asking visitors not to walk on people's grass and yards etc. so be mindful and respectful. It's a very generous and beautiful way of celebrating.

Hey pig, do you doing there?

For those who are tight with money and want a cheap date, come to the light show in Waikele. The Anapau st has a street full of christmas lights and the street next door also puts out christmas decorations and lights. I encourage you to see the Hopoe st first as it is not as crowded as the Anapau st (due to the synchronized light show on Anapau st). As mentioned by the other yelpers, the christmas synchronized light show is every hour. It is best to get a front row view in the middle of the st since the pictures will come out better (panorama shot looks great). They play all the christmas songs you might recognize (frozen, all i want for christmas, christmas list, etc). Awesome for the children and families to check out when not so busy with the christmas season and shopping. There are plenty of go pro and selfie sticks here and of course the Honolulu hale lights. That is expected since people want to post pics on social media and use them for their christmas cards next year lol. You need enough lightening to take a nice photo. The pics come out as dark. you might need to use flash in order for the people faces to show in photo. Selfie stick is useful during these times. Come early if you want close parking. The night I went with my bf and his sister and her friends, parking was nuts. It was the last weekend before the new year. We had to park and walk a little farther ( like 2 blocks away from the place. I'll come next year and earlier so I can enjoy the lights and get out the st quicker :)

12/21/2014 (last visited) Presenting the Waikele Christmas Lights 2014... Took a run up to Waikele to see a house that the newspaper said had synchronized their Christmas lights to music. As impressive as the house was one block over was great... Every house on the block was decorated. Simply elegant, indeed! The folks who put it on are so wonderful. They were out talking to everyone and passing out candy canes. It's all about Christmas! Happy Holidays! The entire display is fully powered by solar photovoltaic panels that power the show all night. Hours are 6 to 10 p.m. nightly. Also accepting donations to buy toys for children at the Next Step shelter in Kakaako. As a side note, Anapau Place as a whole was featured on "The Great Christmas Light Fight" and competed with two other streets in America. This street is recognized almost yearly as having some of the best light displays around.

My second year coming. This show has gotten better than last year. So much fun! PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL. Do not go on people's grass. There are signs everywhere. These families put this show on for free for us, let's just respect their wishes. Thanks.

Remember how that house look like in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation? Well imagine a whole street/cul de sac of houses lit up brightly with tons of Christmas decorations. I'm afraid to see their electric bill... So many lights... You can see every house decorated on Hopoe Place. I don't know if I would want to live here...the pressure to decorate must be high! There's brightly lit trees, lighted animals, a railroad set up and so much more! Tons of Snoopy, reindeers, Santa and my favorite...the hippo (see pictures)! Forget Honolulu Hale and come here. Then of course there's the piece de resistance... on Anapau Place there are a few houses that are decorated and the lights choreographed with Christmas music. The lights and music are perfectly in sync. So what will this cost you? Absolutely nothing. Just be prepared for some traffic and a ton of people. One tip is park far away and walk. We parked about half a mile away so we had no traffic leaving and found tons of parking. Also...the sooner you go towards Christmas, the more crowded it gets. Every year this neighborhood puts on this spectacular show. Make sure you check the newspaper for the hours and days so you don't show up to a dark neighborhood. Make sure you check the newspaper every year since it features this Christmas Lane so you can knows their hours and days you can go to see this production. Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii's way to say Merry Christmas. Lights is Waikele's way to say happy holidays.

Honolulu Hale's city lights is not the only spot to enjoy Christmas lights during the holidays. Christmas lane near the Waikele Premium Outlets is another fun spot you can enjoy with your family, and they'll definitely be thanking you! In fact, I think this place may be better than Honolulu Hale :) Here's why: -There are two lanes (Hopoe and Anapau) that have Christmas lights and decorations adorning (nearly) all the houses. I saw a lot of Disney characters, zoo animals, penguins, freezing snowmen, Snoopy characters, etc. -On Anapau place, there is music synchronized with a house that has a display of a light show. Tune into 90.1 FM to listen along with the music. -There is a "Let It Go" inspired light show from the Disney movie, Frozen. It features a digital display of Elsa dancing back and forth on the screen. How awesome is that?! Plus, come on, who doesn't love Frozen?? Be sure to bring the kiddies because there is a 100% chance that they know the full lyrics to that song, putting us adults all to shame lol. I believe the show happens every hour. -You can take as many pictures as you want, pose next to as many decorations as you want, and none of the neighbors will tell you to get off their yard/property. This is a family-friendly neighborhood, but be certain to watch out for cars on the street as this area does get quite busy nearing Christmas Day. Some neat things I saw this past Christmas: -a window display of a miniature town! This was by far my favorite part. The town even had small animations of a train set. -a car completely covered in Christmas lights with Rudolph as the driver and Santa Claus as the passenger -a real antique working train set in a garage set up by a friendly man with the cutest dog The lights and decorations are up until the week after Christmas, but be sure to check the newspapers to see the set schedule.

    a very family friendly rave

Not gonna' lie, this place probably tops City Lights at Honolulu Hale by a lot. -this place gets pretty busy after the sun drops, but neighborhood parking is ample -incredible synchronized light shows complete with music. The music makes such a big difference when it comes to Christmas lights, can Honolulu Hale please take note of this. It makes it feel super duper festive and really gets you in the Christmas mood -shows appear to start every hour on the hour -bring your kids, but watch to make sure they stick by your side at all times. There's always a constant stream of cars trying to find parking -some of the home owners will be nice enough to show you extra credit things that they've created in their garages if you catch them at the right time -this place is very detailed, you find the nicest decor in the most deepest of crevices. Keep your eyes peeled -last show of the night is 11pm -Christmas lane is two streets worth, make it worth while

So fun for the kids. Parking is a bit hectic for being a private event, go early - plan to walk.

This is the second year we have visited this street and it's only gotten better! I love Christmas and while I would never be able to decorate my house with this many lights, let alone be able to coordinate a whole street into doing it, it's awesome! This year (2015) the houses all are coordinated and the lights go along with music that seems to be playing from little speakers or boom boxes all around the street. After speaking to a high school friend of mine who was directing traffic I found out they do the show between 7-930 everyday of the week. Talk about crazy electric bills! I hope they have solar hehe! The street is closed off to traffic if you don't live there while the lights are on. Many people park along the main drag even though there are no parking signs. You may be able to find legal parking along some of the side streets a few blocks away like we did. The main house is pretty creative with lights that actually play the lyrics in lights to go along with the music! Get there early and maybe on a weekday to avoid the huge crowds that will most certainly be there during the weekends.

Just Yelped this yesterday and went. What a wonderful surprise. Two streets of lighting. One street has lights coordinated to music. What a treat for little and big kids. The owners are very generous to do this for everyone and allow crowds of people to flock to their houses like this. There's quite a bit of street parking, if you have blinders to the tiny no parking signs. 6-9pm was written on one of the signs at the end of a cul-de-sac.

Parking was so easy to find, we got there a little after 5 pm. First place we stop at was Mama Mercy's but they didn't have her famous empanadas, so then we headed to Joja's for their smash burgers and truffle fries. We were happy we got in line because shortly after, they were sold out. We ordered two smash burgers and truffle fries and the wait was a little over an hour but I must say, it was the best burger I ever had!!! The fries were perfectly fried and so damn tasty!!! While waiting we ordered food from a Himalayan food vendor and my goodness, soooooo good (we wanted to try foods that we normally don't eat). We also got drinks, Sunrise from Dragon Teagirls was the best, the Smashed Lemons lemonade was a little too sweet for me but it was still yummy (I gave the rest to my boyfriend who was at home lol). The strawberry shortcake parfait from Ruby's ended our food and it was perfectly delicious! It started pouring rain pretty heavy and we retreated to Grandma's Pasteles where the owner gave us a free pastele empanada that was so delicious and we bought 12 Pasteles (11 frozen and 1 fresh). There was alot of people and the best part is that it's pet friendly! Lots of room to walk (I hate super crowded places) around and check out all the vendors there. I will definitely head back there whenever I can, BEST FIRST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!!

The decorations were cute and festive, and the staff we interacted with were all friendly and welcoming. It was definitely crowded and a bit overwhelming, so we only stayed for about an hour. It was also really hot, which made it tough for both us and our dog. We walked around, grabbed some food, checked out the sunflowers and pumpkin patch, and then stopped by the farmers market store before heading out. The store service was quick, but one moment stood out. A young boy was trying his best to help us and do the math for our items when another staff member suddenly took over and told him, "You're going to the side. You're way too slow." It felt a little uncomfortable to witness, since the boy was clearly trying his best. I understand things can get busy, but it just didn't feel right to scold him in front of customers. Despite that, the festival itself was fun, the food and produce were great, and it's always nice to see local families and pets enjoying the day. We'll probably go again, maybe earlier in the morning next time when it's less crowded and cooler.

Parking: There was very little parking at the location of the event. There were two other designated areas that were open for this event. 1. Parking at Waipahu Christian Church. - I parked here, it was difficult walking to the event with two little kids in tow because there is no side walk. Cars were parked on the side of the road and you have to watch for on coming vehicles. 2. Waipahu Elementary School - If the lot is full and you can't find near by street parking.
