Unlike escape rooms where your main objective is to escape the room, 5-wits an immersive interactive experience that's more focused on story telling where the main objective is to reach the ending of each story based on decisions you've made throughout the gameplay. My daughter and I wanted something to do on a Sunday afternoon. We enjoy going out and having "Mommy/Daughter Dates." She proposed the escape room. I was very nervous b/c I imagined feeling very anxious. I tentatively agreed and we headed out to the mall. Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted. I shared my apprehensions and the employee was kind, patient and talked me through what to expect. She assured me nothing would pop out at us and that there's always an exit if we feel we need to leave. We decided to go w/Drago's Castle. This was the most fun I'd had in quite some time! The puzzles were tough... we only scored a 69, but we tried really hard to make it through! I would absolutely go again! Fun adventure. Danny was great at Checkin and Zoe was enthusiastic. We did all 3 games and really enjoyed two. We had an 8 year old with us and the space one was too hard for him. The last few games in the space room also needed more than 3 players to do well effectively. I actually have 6 or 7 wits, but occasionally I'll reduce myself to 5 so I can participate in these games. This was the third different 5W location that I've tried, and about my fifth trip overall, and I liked it. But again I will say that it really depends on who you go with, a lot more than it should. If you're with strangers and some of them are very sharing, caring, fun and friendly, it can be great, but also it can be a bit of a nightmare and there are some pretty nasty folks out there especially in pressure situations and when it comes to selfishness. I have never been to an "escape room" place before but my wife and I wanted to try one out so we came here. I was fully prepared with my authentic Indiana Jones leather jacket (by Wested, the same people who made Harrison's). It was late on a Thursday night and we essentially had the place to ourselves. This distinction will be discussed further on. Their pricing was $35 for all three rooms (per person), which seemed steep but you didn't have to do all three rooms at once. So, we paid the fare and went to the Medieval room. Without giving away spoilers, many of the challenges we experienced were basic. The rooms were usually dimly lit and the noise from the narration was loud (perhaps to be heard over the ruckus of a large group of kids?) and that affected your senses and thinking ability. Some of the things took time to discover, but part of that was because I didn't want to break things that weren't meant to be "activated." After a while, the narrator started giving clues which I found annoying. I wanted to figure it out for myself, but apparently they either thought we were too stupid to get out or they wanted to herd us through in the 30-minute window. One of the challenges involved a bit of crawling on the ground, though apparently there are other ways of advancing should that be physically impossible (crawling... why did it have to be crawling?) Another of the challenges involved moving things, and I noticed that I got grease on my hands whilst performing the actions. I didn't mind, but be warned if you are dressed up. My biggest fault with the place is that it went too fast. I think a group of 2 is perfect, because if more people had want the number of challenges would have been divided even further and I would have had less to do. As it was, my wife and I could split up certain things (which might have gone faster with more people) but I wasn't concerned about time. I wanted the brain challenge. If you are lining up to get in and others are there too, they might be put in your group. That may or may not be a problem, which is why going when you have the place to yourself is my recommendation. I had a good time. By now some of the rooms are looking a bit worn and tired though it sort of played into the medieval theme. The room can't be redone, so once you have done everything you are out of luck with this location. One flaw mentioned elsewhere is definitely true: there isn't a lot of thinking involved. I wish there had been more dead ends, red-herrings, or other things to really challenge you. At $12 for each room, it was pretty expensive for what you got. But, for a once-in-a-lifetime experience it was neat and I can't wait to try the other two quests. read more

It's hard to hear in there so it's hard to do the tasks. It's a bitch to get old dang!! We went across to have a beer and rested up. Then back for round three which was dragon one. Well I don't crawl so I waited for the door! Haha by the time the door opened he was coming into the room. Haha. Again fun but we are defiantly the "70's" crowd for all scores. What an amazing time this was! I highly recommend this for anyone (maybe not for little kids though). This place is an interactive adventure escape room with puzzles to solve and mysteries to unravel. It's $29.99/pp for a 3 adventure combination tickets. These tickets can be used anytime and require no reservation to use. Groups up to a size of 12 people can enter each puzzle room. This is an escape room that takes approximately 30 minutes to finish for each room. The Albany location features 3 themed rooms (Tomb, Drago's Castle and Deep Space). The location in Syracuse has more rooms. This company exists in 7 east coast cities. You can book a space for birthday parties as well and get pizza for an added cost. I'd totally take a group of kids here for a birthday party. I know a high school in Sherburne took their juniors to the Syracuse location for a field trip so schools near this Albany location should definitely consider this for their students too. It is a really interactive team building activity. I bought a set of 2 tickets for 3 adventures for my fiance's birthday. You don't need reservations and the coupon never expires. We had so much fun here! The workers were super friendly and played/acted out in different roles as our guides to our missions. I was super shocked and scared by the dragon in the Drago's Castle adventure. I liked how that one had comedy and sarcasm involved in it. The Deep Space one was super trippy and made me feel like I was in a sci-fi movie. The tomb one was the darkest/scariest and I had to hold on to my fiance's arm a few times. I loved how the puzzles were all so different from each other. Some involved hearing senses, others involved memorization, and some involved teamwork. My fiance and I were able to do these rooms with just the 2 of us. If you do not complete a mission, you're still able to move on to the next level or room. It just takes away from your overall score. The scores are out of 99. We scored around 77-86 for all 3 of the rooms. The tomb one involved crawling through a crawlspace so make sure that everyone in your group is capable of doing that. I wouldn't recommend this for little children because I actually found the rooms to be scary. The tomb adventure was the scariest because the mummy voice was just yelling at you and putting you down a lot. There were lots of threats and insults like "what are you deaf?!" So, for those who are sensitive to that stuff, avoid the mummy room. The mummy games were so much fun though and I loved that we got flashlights to hold through the beginning part of the journey as a prop. I thought the room experience was so neat because there were moving walls/ceilings, fog machines, fun lights and sound effects and so much more. Do not miss out on this experience! We recently went to 5-Wits with our family (including our two kids, ages 7 and 9). The kids chose the Deep Space adventure, partly because it was recommended as my 7 year old was a little nervous (but she ended up having a blast and has been begging to go back). You can pay ahead of time online, or in person. Our Deep Space adventure could vary from 20-30 minutes (depending on how long you take to do the challenges), so we made sure we were comfortably dressed, and that the kids had used the restrooms beforehand. We brought in what we had with us (jackets, purse, etc), but there are both lockers and restrooms available if needed (I would recommend waiting to do your shopping until after, or leaving anything big in the car). We had to wait for a short bit while the group before us finished, and the screen over the entrance tells you exact wait time plus previous scores (so check it out when you leave as well). Our guide led us to where the adventure starts, and after watching a quick intro, we entered our adventure room. The experience is pretty cool - you really feel like you are in a video game or on a movie set. After being "teleported", we were in what looked like a cockpit of a spacecraft. It was pretty cool to be left in a room full of buttons and have to figure out what to do. There was plenty for everyone to do, and work as a team to get through all of the challenges. My 7 year old, despite her anxiety, had a great time. There were a few moments where the lights go off completely, but she stayed next to me and was fine. There are cameras in all the rooms if you do end up needing help at any point. Fun for the whole family, and definitely something unique to do! They did not give an age recommendation, they did not give a pop out warning. I was having a mommy daughter day with my 6yr old and they litterally almost gave her a heartattack when the dragon popped out im a pitch black room . On a side note 2 of the obstacles were to tall for me, the music was insanely loud. As we were paying the attendant was extremely rude , we went to go to the bathroom because we had a 15min wait time and he felt the need to yell out at us when we were maybe 5 ft from the desk that we had better be back in time BECAUSE IF WERE 1 MIN LATE we will have to reschedule....I want to mention there was litterally no one else around. The price is ridiculous, we went to billy bees right before this for 2 hrs and it was 29$ for the 2 if us. They charged us 62$ for the 2 of us for 30mins ......you need to rethink that . read more

Our family of 4 did the Deep Space and Drago's Castle rooms. Both were really enjoyable rooms that lasted just over 30 minutes each. The kids really enjoyed themselves and the puzzles were perfectly suited to their ages (12 & 14). Unfortunately both rooms were held back from greatness by technical failures in the hardware. One of the hand sensors in the final room of Deep Space was stuck on, so those manning that half of the room were frustrated that they were doing everything right, but failing at the game. The final room of Drago's Castle had similar mechanical issues were the gear puzzle on one side of the room was completely non-functional. We mentioned the issue to the staff member helping us out and they said that they've been waiting for replacement parts. For the price of admission (quite high for a 30 min experience) I really expected more. Particulaly charging us full price knowing that the final puzzle was broken is very disappointing. Our family had a good time, but I wouldn't recommend going until they fix the problems with the rooms. read more

I took my son (13) and a friend and we legitimately loved it. We did all three, which I recommend. You're in each one for about a half an hour but it FLIES by, feels like 5 minutes. So that's why I think it's worth it to do them all. They were challenging, a little scary, and very fun. Physical challenges, audio challenges, puzzles, etc. A lot of variation. We did it with 3 people and I think that's probably the minimum you'd want to do it with. 4 or 5 would probably be even better but I would go much higher than that or people will be standing around not able to participate. Very family-suitable: our 9 year-old was able to fully participate, and the design is well-done in order to be able to pitch at all levels. And very fun! Time flew by: each room (there are three available; very distinct feels to each) took 20+ minutes but felt like maybe 5, completely immersive. So why the missing star? This is more of a roleplay than a puzzle room: there's a clear script from which it's difficult or impossible to deviate, failing doesn't appear to be possible, and the puzzles are pretty basic in most cases (the space room seemed a little harder/more complex, and definitely more enjoyable because of that). Zero replay value, not a huge downside, but at almost no point did it feel other than obvious what we had to do. That's a pity: more brain work would have been good. read more

This place is incredible, and everyone of any age should 100% go. When you do go make sure to get the three token deal. They don't expire and you can go back to use them anytime. It's a much better deal, and I regret not using it. This was my first time going to an escape room and I brought my two nieces 9, and 10. I was assuming that I'd watch them solve all the puzzles and that I wouldn't really have to do anything challenging. (I was wrong). I've only done the Mid-evil one, and the Space one. They said the space was the hardest and I believe it. We failed most of our adventures but we still had a complete blast. I loved the mid evil one and it was more challenging then I expected. I plan to go back and retry to the space challenge, and go to the escape room I didn't visit. My only compliant is that if you successfully complete the missions, then going back through the room is pointless. I am hopeful or assuming that they will change/add challenges every so often to continue to make it interesting for returning customers. read more

And they made us wait another half hour until we could go through! Probably the dumbest thing ever. I had my son's birthday here. We had a great time. I did a party deal since we had a large group. It was nice doing the adventures just among our group. We did all three...Tomb, Drago's Castle and Deep Space. Tomb was our favorite followed by Drago's Castle. Deep Space is the most difficult since there is not much direction, so it took us awhile to figure out what to do. I know for sure we succeeded the first two adventures. Deep Space....eh...we didn't do that great but got out. We had a range of ages and everyone was able to play a part in the adventures. Connor was our host for my son's party. He was great. He was very helpful and a gracious host. He helped take pictures and was very involved and entertaining...I would definitely recommend him as your party host. As far as cost, it is not cheap but it was worth it for my son. Had I had a heads up about Deep Space, probably would have opted out of that one to save some much but I know it wouldn't have been much. We did all 3 adventures as well as had a pizza party with drinks. The price is for a group of 12. They supply everything but the cake. The pizza was from Pizzeria Uno's and it was good. Everyone was satisfied. I brought my own dessert in. The party room is decorated nicely. All in all, my group was very satisfied with our 5Wits experience. read more

I suggested this venue as a firm sponsored team building exercise and it fit the requirement nicely. We were a group of 8, were able to reserve a time slot ahead of time and had a minimal wait. We did the Tomb and the Sci Fi escape rooms and had a great time. The production value was high and definitely better than other escape room productions in the mall and region I have attended. It felt like a really good set on a B movie :) The rooms presented interesting challenges and we were not rushed. They were not repetitive or corny and didn't take to long to figure out either. Without giving much away I would say I liked the Tomb more than the sci fi room but that they were both pretty good. If you are looking for a fun and different team building exercise where you communicate to solve a problem and skip too much awkward small talk with co workers or are just seeking an alternative to a night out at the movies I recommend checking this place out. My only concern is that I have to wonder if there is much replay value here if the puzzles and themes don't change much. Our group of 3 did the tomb. It was a good time however they need to replace some sensors. The challenge in which you need to repeat the sound was a pain considering it wouldn't read when we touched the circle. These experiences aren't exactly cheap so for them to not work properly was incredibly frustrating. I probably wouldn't go back to the Crossgates location due to this. It looks like people have had similar issues with the other rooms as well. For the price, there's no reason why the maintenance isn't kept up. read more

I only have a few bad things to say. Don't bring young children into any of the quests if they are afraid of the dark. There's also some intense situations In the Egypt and Dragon quests that might scare little children. With that said, 5 Wits is awesome. Both times I went to 5 Wits I went with my husband and my 25 year old stepson. We've done all three of the challenges and we had a great time. You must be observant and good at thinking on your feet to get these challenges done. The Dragon quest is quick to give advice how to get the puzzles done. The other two are not. Also, you have to get on your hands and knees in the Dragon quest. We have done mystery rooms. The Sherlock room at Crossgates and another one on Everett road. I felt the 5 Wits were easier and more fun. There are quests that should have been done with more than three people. I'd advise that four or more people would be best for all of the quests. We're going back to 5 Wits and we will try to ace the rooms someday. We loved it that much. read more

I went with my 9 year old and a friend and her 7 year old. We did the space challenge - it was very fun but intense. The 7 year old got scared when the room went dark and wanted to leave, which was easy to do as there are exits in each part of the experience. My son & I completed the challenge - he enjoyed solving the computerized puzzles, but some of the challenges were above his head! Overall a great activity for a rainy afternoon. I struggled with thinking I wouldn't be smart enough to accomplish a task and get stuck in some sort of black hole - lucky for me that did not happen and I had a successful escape! Prices were decent, $19.99 for a single trip, $25.99 for a double trip and $29.99 for all three rooms to visit, with tokens never expiring. They try to upsell you which is annoying but we all got to make a living right. Either way, I completed the tomb challenge and I thought it was awesome. The room was very realistic and the puzzles were fun to solve, I had a great time and so did my friends. We would all for sure come back here. Everyone agreed The space room was really fun and alot of puzzles, the tomb was a let down. Two of the tomb puzzles did not seem to take the right answers and the final room only had one Puzzle-short experience. We did buy a token for the last room to do at another date. We had 6 in our party and it was perfect, we paid extra not to have anyone join us. I think it would be awkward to do with folks you did not know. I'm from NC and I have never heard of something like this before, but boy am I glad I tried it while I was up here. This experience is truly unique. It's like an escape room, amusement park 4D ride, and live video game all in one. My group of 3 did all of the different themed experiences. A few extra people/hands might have helped to score better, but it was also kind of neat to have to scramble and make up for it. The puzzles and challenges within each one were just the right balance of difficulty and fun. Staff was great too however some of the monologue from them before entering was a bit cheesy; I still got a little laugh from it though. Prices are definitely fair & it was worth the money. My friend and I went in for an early show while I was in town visiting, and I gotta say, it was a delight. All three games have some stunning visual effects and a variety of unique challenges. We did them back to back and it took us about an hour and a half, but I think it'd also be an easy way to bide some time if you've got a while till your movie starts(they're located next to the theater).
