I find the security staff intimidating and rude I think one guy there has mummy issues and should really have counselling and not be taking his anger out on customers who do no wrong. The self service section is a joke as half of them have not been switched on and the one l used made me feel as if l just won the jackpot on a fruit machine in a pub, how can a shop justify paying a customer 62p change in 2p pieces. Ice cream that has been defrosted is being re frozen and sold again when l reported the issue to the duty manager he did nothing. Tesco sort yourselves out!

I nipped along the Tesco Express just a few doors along but they had sold out. Oh dear. Not really sure what to do I decided to give this little store a try. As soon as I popped in the door I was greeted by a box of red, ripe, juicy tomatoes, phew! I bought around 4 and they came to about 80p, what a bargain! The woman working that day was really helpful and chatted to me as she was bagging my tomatoes so I decided to share my tomato based disaster with her. We were only in to get bread but I was hoping to grab some more food essentials, sadly looking at how messy everything was really put me off so I just got the bread and left. Would I return to this Sainsbury's? No. There's a better, bigger one around the corner.

That's worth something when everywhere else has closed and you're out of milk... or worse, toilet paper. They're actually not bad for a convenience store, either. The prices are steep-ish but not extortionate and they're the kind of store that also has lots of handy little bits and pieces. So, maybe you're only going in for a loaf of bread, but if you realise you need a pack of safety pins or a bottle opener or something, they'll likely have that too. Oh, and there's a cash machine right outside which doesn't charge and never seems to have a queue in front of it, even when the one outside Tesco has a massive queue. I have no idea why no one wants to use this one - maybe they just don't know it's there?

There is even a standing freezer stuffed with pizzas, chips and ready meals in case you run out. A bigger-than-usual array of sweets and chocolates can be found in here, with such gems as Fry's Orange Creams. The guy that served us was friendly and polite. The best bit is that it's open 'til midnight, for any late-night munchings you wish to embark on.

Generally these days, if I'm in the City Centre and my shopping list consists of much more than eggs, milk and bread, this is where I go. Their range is just that bit wider than that of their nearest neighbours and that makes all the difference. I don't want to have to visit four city centre supermarkets to find cornflower, for example, so I just start here. The other advantage of a slightly larger store is that they have more price point options than your average convenience store. It still won't be the cheapest possible shop, but for at least some items they'll have the "budget", the "regular" and the "luxury" options to choose from. They also have space to run just a few more promotions and, as they insist upon reminding us, every little helps.

It's not the cheapest shop, but they have a captive audience in there so they can get away with it.
