If you ever happen to pass by this way, I highly recommend this little brewery for a stop. it's a small place, with only three tables, but nicely decorated. They even put a little potted plant on the table! There are certainly many micro breweries popping up here and there, but plenty of times, their beers are just so so. Not here. They only have a few taps, but whatever they have is well crafted, nice quality stuff. This brewery has four owners and each is in charge of brewing one week a month. Sadly, they don't get to go paddling for the rest of the month, for there are plenty to do around the place. Like scrubbing the toilet, ha ha. They do get creative and experimental, and only brew in 200L batches, so in three years they have brewed over 130 different recipes. Their flagship Home Sweet Home, a honey vanilla wheat ale, is about the only constant in the line up. My favorite part is how the flight comes in a little canoe. So very cute!!! Am I the only one who thinks the canoe will go very well with a flotilla of sushi boats? They have a fridge selling their bottled beers and a shelf selling souvenirs. If you happen to be driving along this part of 401, definitely recommend a little detour! You won't be disappointed!

Cool spot.

What a great experience! Buddies and I went on a Friday afternoon. Got to chat with the awesome staff and sample some amazing beers. No run of the mill pints here. As the one lad said 'we are going for a reaction, hopefully it's wow that's good, but sometimes it's wow that's horrible'. The chocolate peanut butter stout, coconut cream pie wheat and double double coffee ale are good examples. And the flavours were not subtle. Big, big flavour. So tasty. There are some seats up front and plenty more in back. Just felt like a spot we wanted to spend more time at. Will definitely be back. And we'll take an Uber.

5 paddles had a nice variety. I was able to try beers that were completely new to me (I have never seen a brut ipa before visiting). The beer was very tasty and the brewers were very welcoming and nice. We would definitely go back!!

Review Highlights - 5 Paddles Brewery

The beers are not my favourite, but they are enjoyable and they all kind of cross a better than average but not amazing threshold.

I saw on Instagram they were pet friendly which is always a plus and that they had FOOD! Nice interior and a lot of seating and a Patio out front. The owner was nice and I tried a flight of beers which is the best way to try out a variety without committing to a pint of one! I got the Smoll which is a newer brew, the Petit Duchesse, Roller Beast and Kraken. My favs were the Kraken and Smoll. They were all great but I would definitely get those again! Service was quick and friendly. In the back they have Pattersons Pizza making Neapolitan style pizza. I was surprised they were there! I originally tried their pizza at a Markham Dog Alliance event and was excited to try another pizza. The pizza is very much a tradition Neapolitan style pizza, reminded me of the pizza I had in Naples. The sauces, the thin crust, chewy and yummy and the delectable cheese and pepperoni was a nice balance to the variety of brews I enjoyed. Ian the chef, really loves what he does! Very passionate chef and enjoyed the friendly chat! A random find, a random afternoon, overall a wonderful day! Worth checking out!! I will return!!!

It was a mingling type of event with finger foods, including Bruschetta Crostinis, Cheeseburger Sliders, Fried Chicken Sliders, Spring Rolls, Coconut Shrimps, and Assorted Flatbreads. Everything was really good, with very generous portions that resulted in lots of takeout containers. The food, drinks, venue, and staff were all excellent! The DJ provided a great mix of music all evening.

I remember that I was very disappointed by the food, but at that time, I thought that they were just doing some experimentation to introduce interesting Asian fusion food in this culinarily underwhelming town of Whitby. Thought it would be a good try. So I decided to come back maybe after this place settled more, but then COVID hit. And we never had a chance to come back until today. Unfortunately, the food experience was even worse this time. And their beer went very far from my beer preference, serving a lot of beers with wacky flavors - looks like those beers are taking over their craft beer lineups. Food: We had # Charred octopus with seasoned tomato sauce, chorizo, Calabria chili, ink tapioca crisp. Well, Octopus did not have "charred" flavor. Surface had no crispness. The portion was huge, but the octopus was rubbery texture, dry. The tomato sauce underneath it was just too much for the octopus portion. Over-seasoned & salty tomato sauce with additional salt and spice from chorizo pieces. Do they want to make me thirsty to sell more beer? Yes that might have worked, and unfortunately it didn't. I waited for our server to order another beer but it took her more than 15 minutes to come to our table . # Jagerschnitzel : Essentially, schnitzel. Came with braised red cabbage, apple sauerkraut, Yukon mashed potato with "mushroom sauce". Schnitzel was endlessly huge but dry. Mushroom sauce tasted like can or some pre-made cheap & junky taste. A lot of mashed potatoes. Well suited for those who want to get a lot of comfort food to fill stomach with no intention of enjoying delicacy. Beer was OK. They have rotating beer selections on tap. We had tap beers such as IPA, Scotch Ale and Premium Pilsner. IPA was not as good, it left a lot of one-dimensional bitter aftertaste. If I want IPA then I will go to Town Brewery. Premium Pilsner was good. We also had Scotch Ale which was also good with nice Scotch aftertaste. Do I come back? No, if the food quality remains the same.

Food: #1 Deep fried calamari #2 Black truffle and Brie steak sandwich (time limited menu) with truffle fries on the side. #1. has been our favourite item here since the first visit. Still the same quality. Tender calamari, pickled sliced hot pepper, cucumber pickles - all coated by super thin-crisp butter. I will order this every time I am here for sure. #2 We ordered this "medium rare". I did not expect much as our last experience with their burger was not good. HOWEVER this one was very good. AAA strip-loin arrived perfect medium rare, with right amount of melt-y/creamy/chunky brie & black truffle aïoli nicely coating it. Caramelised onions added flavour, arugula was fresh. All of them were sandwiched by toasted artisan bun (with no sogginess). Accompanying truffle fries was not impressive though... but the sandwich was so good that I did not expect more from this fries. Drink (beer): Beertown XX Left Field Brewry (East York) Home & Away Hazy APA was sooo good. The beer is special with collaboration with Left field brewery (one of my favourite breweries). In spite of its low ALC %, it had a pleasant crisp and kick. Blessed!!!! We also had # Greenwood IPA - New England (Left Field), risp # HIGH GRADE New England Style IPA (Fairweather, Hamilton) # ELORA BOREALIS New England Style Pale Ale # BONE TREE Single Hop New England Style IPA We felt like going with light, crisp and refreshing ones to enjoy food. Our choice today served our purpose perfectly. Must come back to meet more of new Ontario craft beers! Cheers!
