I'm now fully invested in stalking Quokka Sweets, the queen of seasonally inspired ice cream creations. Her peanut butter caramel cream cheese sammie is still living rent-free in my head--so rich, creamy, salty, sweet, with just the right tang from the cream cheese, all sandwiched between two soft graham cracker blondies. Unreal. Also officially keeping tabs on Savage Wheat Project after my kids immediately said, "Let's eat more of their treats." And honestly... Butter Block's homemade Pop-Tarts? Say less. This place is basically a one-stop shop for anyone who appreciates a really good local treat.

We boldly went to see what Explore & More was like on a Saturday morning. Now I am sure it was…read morebusier because of the weekend but it wasn't too busy that we felt smushed with all the people. This place is AWESOME for our little guy. He loved this entire place and had so much fun. The building is 4 floors but Explore & More really starts on the 2nd floor. The first floor has a lobby and a cafe though which is nice too. The main floor of Explore & More is great. There is a Delta Sonic kid car wash, and so many cool historical Buffalo things like the Erie Canal and interactive boat for them to try out. The next floor has so many interactive things for kids to try and run around on. Everything has great theming for Buffalo and really shows off the hometown pride for the adults who are there with their kids. I'd recommend this place to anyone with kids because they have so much fun. There is something to do for all ages here. Definitely felt like a Buffalo gem.

Explore & More Children's Museum can be wonderful. It really can, but there are some things making…read moreit logistically difficult. First - parking!! I really find it a big pain to park near explore and more and get into the museum. In the past year, they have updated their entrance and exit policy, you get a ticket on receipt paper which you have to then use to exit the museum. And the machine is not very quick at scanning them and your kids have to exit BEFORE you because you need to stay there and scan all the tickets. It's very irrational to me and needs work. 3rd they needed to consider the patrons when building this place. It's really designed for 1 parent and 1 child and not for families at all. Strollers are seemingly frowned upon as there is one small coat closet area to put them and if you bring it around with you they might move it around to where they think it's more appropriate even though there is nothing about where they should be placed. How would they suggest I bring 3 kids of different ages, who have different energy levels? It's hard! There is ALOT of imaginary play materials. Doctors set ups, sports, the farm/kitchen, but it's all so crowded. I was so sad to see they moved the car you could get into and play in, into the car/play room because it completely crowds the room out. While I do have quite the bit of criticism- I was a member for 2 full years, k brought my kids often and lived with all the little inconveniences of the space. My kids like to play here, but not enough for me to be a member anymore.

Wow, no reviews for two years!…read more This farmstand looks like it is going strong. There was a wide variety of vegetables today - greens, peppers, beets, tomatoes, herbs, and more. Everything looked bright and beautiful. The pepper and tomato selection was better than Elmwood Bidwell. There are other local businesses represented including a small selection of Butterblock Pastries, a local honey table, coffee, and there's tables with seating as well. There was also local ice cream, Yumo, which has some really interesting flavors including one vegan one plus one sorbet. The farm also boasts a pizza stand. The pizza isn't available until 11am, though you can order it ahead of time for pick up as early as 11. While all the signs say the Market and Pizza are 10-3pm, the pizza cannot be ordered in person until 11am. The signs when you enter the market will not say this and nothing in the pizza area will say this. Seems like an easy enough thing to do. The pizza is pretty good. It's hot and crispy though I'm not sure why it's advertised as solar powered ovens because there's definitely fire involved. Pizzas are all $17 with cow products if ordered $20 vegan. One pizza is enough for two people. We got the poblano pie and it was very good. I don't think I would have missed the cheese - it's a very modest amount of what appears to be Miyokos vegan mozzarella, which I love, but for the amount on the pizza, I don't think I would miss it. Might make more sense on the Margherita but it's a minor player on the poblano. We left and came back for the pizza and forgot to get the Boston Cream vegan flavor they had. A really nice neighborhood market worth a visit.

They offer different pizzas and thats what I come for. I think the offerings may vary week to week depending on the vege availability. The prices of the pizzas vary, but seem to be between $14-18. They have created a seating area to wait for your pizzas. It's nice and with an umbrella, so not too hot. They have a few butterblock offerings too, all $4.50. Then a select assortment of herbs and veges are available. All seasonal. Priced fairly consistent with the Bidwell market, slightly higher than NT market. Their farm looks awesome. This place is well worth a trip to the West Side.

I love that everything at this market is local! There is always a fun vibe here, usually some…read moremusicians, and always delicious smells in the air. It is pretty much always crowded, so be prepared to stand in lines at most of the vendor booths. The lines actually feel like a plus to me, since it is well organized and clear to know who is next. Some markets feel more like a free-for-all of whoever is loudest and this way is far more comfortable for a person with social anxiety. Of course it's crowded because everything here is high quality and sold at peak freshness. There are fruits, veggies, prepared foods, canned foods, flowers, and in the late spring / early summer you'll find seedlings for home gardens. Prices aren't low but it is important to support our local food infrastructure and the flavors are outstanding. I have talked with a lot of the farmers and vendors and every one has been friendly and helpful. Most vendors I shop with here accept credit cards. I would love to see more variety, as most of the farm stands tend to have similar things - farmers, please grow more tomatillos, radicchio, hakurei turnips, artichokes, and other less-common veggies! Logistics: Streets are tight, parking is all parallel-parking on the street, and there are not enough sidewalks. The entire market is on grass. I don't think there are any restrooms. Bring a wagon if you intend to buy anything large or heavy.

It was so much fun to wander past the stalls of local food/produce/products and see all of the people out enjoying the gorgeous morning. We ate breakfast here from one of the vendors. They have a few small tables and chairs you can sit at - a lot of other people brought chairs or blankets. The vendors were varied and all local - it was really a wonderful way to start our trip to Buffalo.

I first found out about the Massachusetts Avenue Project when I was looking for place near me to…read moredrop off kitchen compost. MAP is one of the drop-off locations for the City of Buffalo's residential food scrap collection program. If you'd like to participate, you can bring your scraps any time and look for the orange bins on the outer side of the fence. But MAP is more than just a place to drop off compost. It's an urban farm on the West Side that provides job and leadership training for low income youth. It also hosts cooking classes and gardening workshops, and a seasonal farm stand. You can also rent space in their farmhouse and/or commercial kitchen as well. I believe you can contact the org to request a tour of the farm (suggested donation $5), though I got a chance to see the grounds and go inside the farmhouse during MAP's annual seedling sale, where they also had outside vendors. Even though we didn't buy any seedlings (my recent track record with plants is not so great), it was still a fun visit. My three-year-old was interested in MAP's resident chickens, the demonstration beehive, and in the baby cows that were visiting the farm that day. We also purchased some food from one of the outside vendors, and some honey made by MAP's own bees. I'd definitely recommend being on the lookout for other MAP events if you're interested in locally grown food or edible gardening.
