You just gotta enter on 17th Street and get a ticket (sometimes there will be a worker there that will be pressing the machine and giving them out). Make sure you take the ticket with you to get in from the 16th street entry doors (otherwise gotta walk all the way around to 17th street main entrance). It is recommended to pay with card at the paystations before exiting, but if you want you can pay with card or cash to attendant when leaving. Attendant also told me it is only $2 if you come after 4pm...so good for if you have a night out too! It feels pretty safe, well lit, and haven't had any issues!

I was able to pay in cash and Apple Pay because they have a parking attendant at the entrance. I was also able to pay once when I lost my ticket! Very nice and friendly staff. Always plenty of parking options during off hours. Near by eateries for easy access.

You can walk in both directions from this parking lot. Lots of birdhouses and birds along the trail. There is also a swimming hole if you walk towards the right. There is also a free outdoor bee museum nearby that is fun to check out.
