He admitted that the scope of work would create structural instability which was never communicated prior to it being done. He doesn't want to fix it or hire a structural engineer as supposedly the 3 that he works with don't want to touch this project. We have started the steps to file a CCB complaint. I HIGHLY recommend you guys look at the yelp reviews. Shocking to say the least. For a what seemed like a simple job these guys sure liked to mess it up. We have a detached shed/garage that was built on piers and we needed it to be reinforced with concrete because we are converting it to a gym. We sent in photos and got a reasonable quote. When they got out here they couldn't get their equipment back to location (I could have told them that and they could have seen that based on Google map photos). So there was an upcharge of $650. Fair. Then while they were in the middle of the job they basically said they couldn't do what we were asking. That what we wanted would be more labor. We agreed. New upcharge of $1550. Annoyed, but we want it done. They said they'd tape plastic tarps up to protect the interior walls from the concrete. They didn't. Splatter is everywhere. They said they would take out the entire plywood floor and pour concrete up to where it was. They poured it to just under where the floor was. They also left a corner of the floor and didn't even cut it square so we get to figure out how to install a floor around it or how to remove it without damaging the concrete underneath it. They also had multiple workers smoke in the backyard just feet from the house. I was upstairs and had a few downstairs windows open so now my whole house smells like cigarettes. I am very sensitive to it and get migraines. So that's great. They also used several of my own tools for the job. Which was wild to see. They used my hammer, mallet, and a dewalt ratchet set. They also used two brooms to sweep the concrete debris so now there is dried concrete in them. Overall highly would not recommend these guys. Nearly 8k for this is crazy. So now we have to clean off all the walls from the splatter and figure out how to remove the old flooring they charged us $1550 to remove but didn't. Also the floor isn't even level.

I have been a professional tradesperson for 50 years. I was recently hired by a client to…read morerepresent them in remedying the defective work performed by Catalyst Construction. The quality of their work, their construction knowledge and professionalism are nothing short of ABYSMAL. I contacted Ryan Klobas (the owner) with regards to his defective and delinquent work. I threated to contact the Builders Board to motivate him to show up. His response? He said that "PEOPLE ALWAYS TRY TO TAKE HIM TO THE BUILDERS BOARD, BUT IT NEVER WORKS," and then promptly contacted his attorney (who sent us a patronizing letter) instead of showing up to the job site (something he NEVER did) to remedy the situation. He bullied my female client (a mother of an infant). HE TOOK 14 MONTHS TO INSTALL 2 WINDOWS! It wasn't until I began proceedings with the CCB that Ryan finally agreed to complete (or attempt to) complete the project. I had to dry plans on his behalf (he did not seem to know how) to show him how to do a simple window installation. I specified the use of proper materials, as he had not educated himself on this common trade knowledge. I forced him to get permits and engineering for the structural damage he had done to the residence. He lied to my client, telling them that permits were "optional." HE USES A CHAINSAW AND A SLEDGEHAMMER (literally) to cut ROUGH openings into structural concrete walls. He installed his windows exactly backwards. He dug huge holes in the yard, leaving them all winter to fill up with water, which migrated into the house. He does not know how to caulk properly. He used finger-jointed (garbage) lumber, which disintegrated in 2 months time. There is not one aspect of construction, neither in the use of materials or in standard construction orthodoxy, that Ryan knows how to implement. He makes things and systems up in his head, uses materials against their intended purposes, then writes a letter telling my client that he is "innovative" by doing so, and that my client is "crazy" for suggesting otherwise. All of Ryans' employees who visited the site, refer to Ryan as "an idiot" and "a bully." One employee told me that he gotten abused by Ryan because Ryan hadn't given him the plans (which we provided) for the project. Ryan told his employee that he should "LIE TO THE CLIENT TO PROTECT THE COMPANY." Every one of his employees who attempted doing their mis-guided work on my client's house, ended up quitting, because of the way Ryan mistreated them and his clients. I am not sure where the positive reviews have come from, but I suspect they are fake. My female client was literally afraid for her safety. She experienced Ryan as DANGEROUS. DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY.

Every one of the team members was genuine, thoughtful, kind, and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting them, and learning about each other. After they finished the job, we asked them if they might be willing to move a giant pile of sod that had been sitting in our back yard for two years. They came back out with the same great attitude, did the job at a fair price, and cleaned up the work site afterwards. We couldn't be happier. When it's time to replace our other old concrete, we won't hesitate to call them. If you're in need of concrete work, call these guys first. You won't be disappointed.
