HIGHLY RECOMMEND LINDSEY's CLASSES The class is held at her condo-turned-into-Soap-lab in a highrise downtown Long Beach near the beach. Lindsey provides snacks, drinks, handout, materials, and protective gear. We talked about soap, saponification, ingredients, and do hands on with making out cold press soap. We leave with 3 bars of soap still in it's mold (takes two weeks to cure). What I've taken away from the class... 1) Lindsey showed us the basics, the tip of the iceberg, and we create from there. Let's just say I begun ordering my organic materials when I got home and started looking into formulas and how to tweak them based on what I've learned 3) Lye is used for the chemical reaction for saponification but is not not a direct ingredient within the soap 3) difference between "beauty bar" and real soap (ex: dove is a beauty bar but not a soap) I'll be back soon to take the advance class! The space is very nice and serves various purposes. The inside downstairs has an industrial feel and the up stairs has a more administrative feel. The facility is named Augusta's own famed Opera singer, Jessye Norman. If you ever get a chance to visit for an event or for a youth camp, please do so.

The goal is to develop or sharpen your skills, help you try something new, and enjoy different culinary experiences. Expert chefs guide you step by step in 'hands-on' instruction in a commercial kitchen setting. Everything is provided, utensils, pots, pans, appliances and ingredients. Students just show up and cook. I've really enjoyed my time and can recommend. Fair warning though. These classes always sell out.

There was 80s music videos playing for us and our stations were all set up and good to go. She walked us through the steps and let us be creative, but we were happy to know that she was there with us watching as we worked. We needed a little hand holding at first, but she gave us confidence that we could get our piece finished and helped touch up our mistakes. We are proud of the art we made.

While we were long-time members, a recent failure by management to handle a situation professionally forced us to withdraw before the year was up. I am sharing our experience to help other parents make an informed decision. Following a peer rumor that inadvertently involved the business, my minor daughter proactively requested a meeting with the owners to clarify the situation. Given our long history, she expected a safe, moderated environment. Instead, we found the meeting to be hostile. In our experience, the co-owner spoke to my daughter in an aggressively loud and elevated tone before she could finish speaking. The situation felt so unsafe and unprovoked that I felt compelled to physically remove my child from the room, as the owner could not de-escalate the interaction. When my husband subsequently met with the owners to address this behavior, we felt there was a complete lack of accountability or apology. Furthermore, during this discussion, the owners shared details regarding another child's past behavioral history by name. This lack of discretion left us with no confidence that student privacy is respected behind closed doors. Worse, we learned that instead of mitigating the peer conflict, leadership allegedly instructed other teens in the program to focus their grievances toward our daughter and another student. While we understand that business owners cannot prevent outside rumors, the way this peer conflict was handled felt entirely inappropriate for educators responsible for minors. While families may have a fine experience when things run smoothly, our situation completely changed how we view this leadership. In our opinion, Ft. Steam handles conflict poorly and does not maintain the level of professionalism or student privacy we expect from an educational environment. Since sharing our experience, there have reportedly been threats of legal action toward individuals and groups connected to discussions about Ft. Steam and their handling of similar interactions.

Until then, you will find me taking all kinds of classes to feel the void that I missed from that class. I recently visited @mybestfriendssewingroom in Augusta, Georgia. My goal was to learn the basics of using a sewing machine. While anxiety ridden about using their equipment, as I'm quite clumsy, the instructors eased my shaky hands and by the end I felt confident enough to take another class. Side note: I'll probably take the beginner class one more time so I can focus on my speed as seen in the video. My Best Friend's Sewing Room LLC offers a variety of classes from beginner to advanced. They're classes are great for the young and old. If you have mini me's check out their summer camps or take a class with your mini. Group Suggestions: Have one person book your spots or agree to all book at the same time. The classes are limited and you want to be sure to get a seat in the class.
