How is it possible that this coffeeshop has only one other review?
420 used to be known as De Kuil, and I'll admit the place was much better back then. It was, for a long time, one of only a few places in A-dam where you could smoke a joint and have a beer. Recent laws, of course, have changed all that, and De Kuil has become 420. The name is cliche, and the "classic rock" thing is a bit kooky. But this coffee shop looks like an old-school tavern and avoids all the common marijuana fetishism some coffeehouses just can't get away from: there's no swilry whirly neon non-sense. It's straightforward. Sit down, roll a joint, drink tea and listen to (more often than not) Zappa.
If you're in A-dam for only one night or passing through, this place is steps from the train station. You'll avoid the idiot frat boy scene in any Bulldog or at The Grasshopper. The staff knows its grass as well as any in the city, and the haze joint for 2.50 Euro is a hit. 420 is ideal in the early evening before the big crowds are out, as you can sit at the large table in back to read or write.
It does get packed at night. read more
