My friends and I came to town for the Black Romance Book festival. We decided to start our day with coffees and smoothies, Yo and Dee were amazing baristas! They welcomed us, offered recommendations for places to visit, and shared their love of the city and area where they grew up! Our friend hadn't eaten and they gave her a cinnamon roll out of care and concern!! This place is wonderful. We will be back and hope others visit as well. read more

I've been trying to be more intentional about frequenting small businesses and black owned coffee shops. I stumbled on this from a quick google search. I walked in and was greeted immediately by who I assume is the owner. She was lovely. She spent some time coaching an employee on a drink and she recommended the Freaknik, so I gave it a try and was not disappointed. I also ordered 2 bacon, egg, and cheese croissants for my husband and I. This cozy shop is very convenient for me to get to with being 10min from my house. My only complaint is having to circle around to find street parking, but that's sometimes expected being ITP. I'll definitely be back. read more

Stumbled across this local coffee shop in the Pittsburgh neighborhood. They have many food selections with Atlanta based naming. Such as MLK, Freaknik, Outcast.. to name a few. The servers inside of the shop were very friendly and greeted me upon arrival. I ordered the Freaknik, which can be ordered hot or cold. I went with the hot option. The coffee itself was pretty good, but I wasn't a fan of the little pieces of brown sugar. I assume that I would consume with each sip. When I got home, I had to stir up some more to break it up but overall good. They had a waffle sandwich that I really wanted to try, but unfortunately, they were out of batter today and likely tomorrow. This took two items off the menu that I really wanted to try this time but I guess I'll have to wait and come around next time. It might be nice to know what to not order in advance because I really didn't have a Plan B when looking at the menu lol. I hope to stop by again soon to be able to update this review . read more

Decided to try 404 Coffee today after seeing it on Doordash and realizing it was in the city! I ordered the oreo frappe and the bankhead breakfast sandwich. The frappe was watery and didn't have any flavor, but cost $12 to include espresso. The sandwich was dry and had no flavor-- cheese barely melted and eggs with not an inch of seasoning (not even pepper.) Overall this place is a huge miss and I will not be back. read more

Still working my way through Black owned coffeeshops and 404Coffee was up on the list. Let's get into it! Location and Parking They are located on McDaniel Street. The parking is street parking. My partner and I came around 11am so there was plenty of street parking. Venue and Atmosphere Stepping into the venue feels like taking a step back in time to "Old Atlanta". The bar where you order is right in the front, and to the right there is a photo wall full of all of our faves drinking coffee. Michelle Obama, Queen Tina Turner (RIH) and Beyonce are some that I remember off the top go my head. On the other side is where the tables are located and the art on that wall is true trip down memory lane with photos from Golden Glide, Busy Bee Cafe, Club 112 and so much more I loved it. There were about 3-4 tables on the right side. My only observation was that there isn't a lot of plug space. My partner and I were the only patrons that were sitting at the moment so we had access to the plug but I do wonder if it could ever possibly pose a problem. Food and drinks Another thing I loved was the name of all the drinks and how you ordered them. The coffee was named after iconic Atlanta monuments. I ordered the Auburn Ave, which was the white chocolate latte. Other fun names I saw were Beltline, 96 Olympics, and of course Peachtree. The food was the same way. I had the Buford Hwy, which was the breakfast burrito with scrambled eggs, bacon, roasted red peppers, and siracha mayo. Yes, it absolutely was as good as it sounds. Service Service was quick and easy. The barista was patient with us as we perused the menu and was more than happy to explain everything to us. Another thing I noticed is the sense of community among the residents who lived in the area. There were some regulars who walked over and from the conversation alone you could tell that a genuine community connection exists, which was wonderful to see. Verdict If you're needing a bit of Atlanta nostalgia, or if you're needing to brush up on some Old Atlanta history, drop by 404 Coffee, have an Auburn Ave, and relive a little bit of it all. I was visiting the area and needed coffee. I saw 404 Coffee was nearly and stopped in. I was greeted as soon as I walked in the clean and cozy establishment. I ordered a regular drip coffee and a vanilla flavored coffee with hazelnut. I also ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese croissant and a plain butter croissant. The staff were extremely pleasant and I spoke to the owner for a few minutes. The coffee was strong - as it should be! I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast and would definitely return. read more

Visited this morning with my son. After leaving Starbucks, I rather go to a local, friendly establishment. Walked in was greeting by staff and other patrons. Very clean, and nice decor. But we ordered the MLK. A lot of people don't know how to matcha. She did it (the owner) with a smile, friendly demeanor. While looking up different cafés in the area, we came across 404 Coffee. It's Black Woman Owned, so we definitely had to check it out. 404 Coffee is a nice little coffee shop in the Pittsburgh neighborhood. There's street parking in the neighborhood. Upon walking in to the shop, you get a "Welcome to Atlanta" feel. The walls are decorated with pictures of African American icons and pictures of Atlanta. There is a menu posted up front but you can place your order and pay online from the barcode at the counter. There are so many menu items to choose from, and they all have Atlanta themed names. We ordered the "Midtown" Croissant, "Downtown" Waffle sandwich, "Freaknik" Brown Sugar Latte, and Oreo Frappe. I can't wait to come back to try more. The owner, Kelli, is awesome! read more

I happened to be working near this cute little coffee shop early Sunday morning. I decided to wander in and I'm sure glad I did! I ordered a bacon, egg and cheese on a croissant, which was made fresh after I ordered it. I also ordered an iced dirty chai latte. Chai lattes are either amazing or they're horrible- there is NO in between! And a dirty chai is even harder to do. I ordered it anyways hoping for the best. Best decision- the dirty chai was PERFECTION! It was the perfect blend of spices, the espresso didn't overpower the chai. It was the perfect blend, it made my morning. Sadly the hashbrowns needed more cooking. They were on the soggy side. The burrito is small with hardly anything in it besides eggs that need to be seasoned. The GA 400 Matcha is great - 7/10 and I will definitely get it again. However, don't get an Açaí bowl from here. It's like a slushy and very very small for $12.00. I was very disappointed. But, now I know. They use an oatmeal bowl for the açaí bowl and I added the toppings they provided but the bowl is small and the entire thing just was not good. They need to use a different type of bowl or not sell açaí bowls - because it was a slushy and not an actual açaí bowl. read more

The food's presentation was lacking, but I was going to give it the benefit of the doubt; food doesn't have to look good to taste good, right? But the breakfast burrito I ordered along with the croissant I got as well was so painfully distasteful. I tried to make the most of it, but the eggs were nothing, the sausage was like one of those Tyson patty things and it was the only source of flavor, and it wasn't even pleasant. They both were delicious, but my favorite was the midtown. Caffeine wise, I ordered the Memorial Dr Oreo Frappe. It was good, but just ok. The presentation was lovely. Kelli is very hospitable. I'm a nurse at Grady and was on call one weekend, did a quick search of breakfast spots nearby and this popped up. Got here in 10min from Grady on a Saturday morning. I do not like coffee so do not let the name of the business deter you from trying it. It's local, black woman owned and the food was good. I got the "Midtown" and a smoothie. Not what I expected in service or product--terribly overpriced for a caramel frappe that tasted like a cup full of sugar and a burnt (not toasted) packaged croissant.
