Newly refurbished in 2004, it now holds the same butchers, no Somerfield and...well, not much else. There is a nice new shiny floor and automatic doors though, and a sit in Greggs the Bakers. That's about the highest accolade i can give the place. I still tend to walk through here though, and i have no idea why. Perhaps to see if it has magically turned into somewhere with good shops overnight, or maybe just to remind myself what a pointless place it is. Every single tome i have been, it's literally like a ghost town, with the majority of people here being employees. They did try to make the upstairs section into a market once, but that quickly petered out, and so the cycle of shops opening and swiftly closing three weeks later began, and hasn't stopped since. There is a big Savers in here which is good for toiletries, and an Argos, a Peacocks and Bon Marche, but other than that...it's empty. Give this one a miss...although if it's raining it gives a good bit of shelter between the bus station and the Regent Centre...that's it's only saving grace!

Although whenever I've visited the car park has been very quiet also meaning the shops are quiet too I hate it when it's busy! There are six shops in the retail park, Acorn Pet Centre, Argos Extra, Au Natural, Dreams, Homebase and Peacocks giving a good selection of premises to visit. There is a small amount of cover along the pedestrian walkway to protect visitors from the elements, although it's more of a nudge in the direction of rain cover than actual real cover.

Homebase which is quite a good size selling diy and plants etc. Halfords selling car parts etc. Argos a catalogue shop and last but not least the acorn pet shops which only had a couple of rabits in and some hamsters, fish and birds. The only thing about this retail park is that it is quite high up so it can be quite cold and the weather can change quickly.

The thing I never really understand about Matalan is the need for cards. Why do they have them? It used to be that you had to have a card to buy anything, but on my more recent visit, I noticed they had slackened up on that, and it's now used for more of a rewards card than store ID. This store has everything; kids, women's and men's clothes, shoes and home ware. They have a brilliant underwear section and sell branded bras at less than half price. They even have Calvin Klein boxers at £9 a pack, which is less than half price, ideal for Xmas or Birthday pressies! I used the services that M Party provides for my 21st birthday party, and had cream and pink balloons with lovely little shimmery weights and bits and bobs for decorating the hall, all for under £100, which was amazing value! You have to collect the balloons yourself but that wasn't a problem. They have table decorations, age specific decorations and buffet ware, which is all fairly priced and available in every colour imaginable! They also make up banners if you want them, although I felt they were a bit pricey. Huge store with loads of bargains! The clothes in Matalan are getting nicer by the season, and I would highly recommend it for summer holiday clothes.

This is an upmarket shopping centre which has more expensive high street shops like Reiss, Ted Baker, Vivienne Westwood and Cos (which I'm still yet to check out!). The centre is certainly decorated to match the crowd it's looking to attract - glitzy, glam and always clean and tidy. I like the size of the centre as well - it's very dinky but still has lots of shops and is easy to navigate. There's also a host of restaurants, bars and cafés but I'll be honest - I've not visited many of them. I ate at Barca probably 4 years ago and also one of the places on the bottom floor but I think that's changed hands. One down side is that if you are dining at a restaurant on the lower level, parents will tend to let their kids run riot in the centre circle which can be a bit of a mood-killer. Princes Square doesn't have a car park due to its location but it is really close to train and subway. If you do really fancy driving, probably St Enoch or Mitchell Street are the closest car parks.

Mostly what's available here is at the lower budget end of the high street, however large branches of M&S and Debenhams can be found here too. Probably the most interesting section is the food court, which has several cafes and eateries that look pretty great - including milkshake, pizza, hot dog and ice cream places, as well as a general cafeteria-style cafe. It makes sense to come shopping here for basics, or to get out of the rain, and the idea of stopping for some lunch when your shopping is done is pretty appealing with the options available here.

The Oak Mall is really small (hey I'm a poet and I didn't know it!) and has really rubbish versions of high street stores. For example the Oak Malls Topshop has to be the worst branch I have ever been in! It is so tiny and doesn't have any of the most fashion forward, cool lines. There are a few of those really tacky "tween" shops that I love to hate such as Quiz, Unique and Internacionale, if that's you kind of thing, if it is, why?? The Oak Mall does have one of the few Adams stores left in the UK which is maybe worth a visit if you have kids. Also the Bodycare, Semi Chem and Sally Hair and Beauty stores are good for picking up cheap but branded beauty products. Poundshops-a-plenty and near on 5/6 card shops (really?) as well the Oak Mall doesn't have much going for it. Empty shops and poor ones litter the once bustling West Blackhall St. For any Greenockian, this part of town lost its appeal as soon as it become closed over and refered to as "The Mall" - no character remains, sadly. I really hope the council pour some serious money into our local shopping centre by getting it back to basics

There's free WiFi available and it's quite a pleasant place to wander around. It seems to be largely aimed at health and fitness options. There's a gym at the top floor, a place offering juices and healthy foods and a sports nutrition place. Beyond that there's a few other small businesses and a larger BHS and Iceland.
