I've always wanted to try out the Japanese permanent hair straightening method, but cost was always a barrier. Normally the treatment costs anywhere from $400-700 depending on hair length and texture. I found this particular salon after doing a search for coupons or discounts in the local area. Jessie is their "in-house expert" and she is super sweet and kind. I saw that some people left her nasty reviews on other review sites and even "one star spammed" her, but I really don't understand why! She takes her time to explain the procedure, and she is honest about how your hair will turn out based on how your hair looks and feels to her. Overall, my treatment took about four hours! A long time, but very well worth it in the end. Do your own research beforehand to see if the pin straight hair is something you really want for the long term. This method is supposed to last six months before needing a retouch. And even then, if your hair isn't too curly, you could grow it out and cut off the treated hair if you desire to later on. read more

My friends introduced me to this salon and Jessie 2 years ago, and I've been coming ever since. I've tried many salons around Houston, from high end ones near midtown where I work, to mall salons like Visible Changes, to popular ones in Chinatown, to random ones from Groupon. My conclusion is that for me, this salon has the best price ($40-$60) for the quality of haircuts and service (everyone here is a sweetheart). UPDATE*** Salon owner refuses to refund me and says since America is an independent contractor the money would come out of her pocket. I still think this is outrageous. Take responsibility for who works for you or in your shop. She only offered to "correct" my hair color.. I can do it myself at home as I always do and have done for 10 years. She however cannot undo the damage. My hair is so fried it's ridiculous. See photos...*** I am so confused. I got a Brazilian blowout from America here and there were so many things wrong with this experience I don't even know where to start. I've been getting this hair treatment 2-3x a year for 10 years - I know exactly how it should be done and how it should turn out as I've had over 25 of these done. So let me start by saying I went in with my hair black, and now it is a light brown/orange color - which is not even my natural color? I asked the lady doing my hair and she insisted it was because it's healthier now and when it was dyed black it had a bunch of gunk in it causing it to be darker. I've also been dying my hair black since I was 13 and always dye it right before this treatment because it actually can lock and seal in the color when done properly. She put several other conditioners and products in my hair, one of them before the treatment. Next, I don't think she even used the real Brazilian Blowout formula. It smelled different and my hair is basically the same as when i walked in. She was blow drying my hair with the round brush on top of my hair instead of underneath, causing all the frizz and stray hairs to curl outwards instead of inwards. And when she was flat ironing it, same thing. I also asked if it was on the highest heat setting and she said yes. When she was flat ironing it the second time around just to clean it up though, she looked at it and said "oh lemme turn this up.."??? It took OVER 3.5 HOURS to do my hair!! It never has taken more than 2 maybe 2.5 hours and that's when my hair was 6 inches longer. I appreciated that she took her time and was diligent, but I wasted so much time for the poor results. Lastly, America was nice and had really good intentions. I feel guilty for even writing this review, but it needed to be done so she knows and other people too. She is 68 years old and very traditional, which is fine. But the first 3 hours was basically lecturing me on life and it was honestly both painful and really insulting. Im a 26 year-old liberal American, so you can imagine I didnt agree with many of these statements. Here were a few: - It's cruel to have only one child (I am an only child and plan on having 1 kid) - You shouldn't have kids after 30.. which again both my mom had me at 37 and I wont be having kids till later too - If you use food stamps you're white trash - you shouldn't move in with a boyfriend unless you're getting married or you're just sleeping around and not a pure person - if you lose your virginity before you move in and get married then you're no good - if you're obsessed with fitness it's bad because the only men that want you are playboys. (I'm a professional bikini competitor as my career lol) - You shouldn't have dogs unless you live on a farm - I cant even count the amount of times she brought up religion and I just bit my tongue because I'm not even Christian. She was older so I get it, but at the same time I would've liked to talk about literally anything else besides her world views. She didn't care to ask me what I thought about anything or any questions. It was a one-way conversation from hell. Super unprofessional conversations and the results are trash. This place is a hidden gem. I was scared to try it first because it doesn't look fancy or upscale. I gave it a shot and got a great haircut with layers exactly how I wanted. I could have spent the same amount at Toni and Guy to get a more complete and satisfying salon experience than here. My hair was not shampooed before the trim. She used a spray bottle to wet it. The last time I had a spray bottle used on my hair was for a $7 haircut place in Alief. Then she styled it stick straight. I got home and it looked so greasy. Let me start by saying I have one person I prefer here JC. She is the only one that I will let cut my six year olds hair. Went yesterday and was told she had a client and she offer the other lady that was working as she so always does. I refused as always and said we would return at a different time. Decided to check this place out since I gave up on TGF (Brazos Town Center). There was no wait, and the hair cut was done reasonably well at a good cost ($15 for mens). The only negative point was that the stylist went shorter than I requested, but my hair grows back in less than a week so no point fretting over that. read more

They messed up my Haircut!!! But my hair is so hard to cut so when I find someone that can cut it I stick with them 4 life unless I move. With that said after I was dissatisfied they offered the cut for free. No way the lady still spent her time so I tipped her the cost of the cut instead so it's ok. I came back a second time (not because they promised a free hair cut but because they were really polite when I was upset) this time I was happy. One more visit and I know they will get my haircut perfect. I have a lot of knots and dings... and goes in different directions so it's hard to do a bald fade. Haircut $25 Olaplex treatment $35 Scheduled an appt w/ Jessie, but when i got there, "she was on a conference call for the next hr" so got a haircut from another stylist. The person who cut my hair was very friendly and personable and may be a fabulous colorist (saw a bunch of her work in pictures),but totally butchered my hair. When I left the salon, my hair was curled, so I did not get a look at the true cut until I washed it. The stylist said she was going to define the layers. I asked for long layers and got choppy, uneven hair. The V shape of my hair is more like a U. Also got the Olaplex treatment (not sure of spelling), which was recommended by the stylist, that worked wonders for my dry, damaged hair. read more

I hadn't been to a stylist in a while because it was so hard to find one that was reasonable in price, didn't have a long wait or not criticizing my hair and it's flaws. My boyfriend looked on yelp and told me to try this salon. As soon as I walked in, Jessie and her coworker were so friendly. The place was so clean and organized. Jessie suggested what I should do with my hair and took her time with me. She colored all my gray (and I have long hair!), styled and straightened it. I looked like a totally different person when she was done with me. I love how my hair looks and most of all the price was so reasonable!! An excellent price for great quality. Kieu is an excellent hair stylist and fun lady. She was very patient cutting and thinning my originally super long, thick hair. She has a good eye for detail and will do exactly what you tell her too, so have a good idea of what you want before you come in. It took around 2 hours total to get it cut and cost $25, excluding tip. Most places charge me at least $35+ and usually hate me when I leave. But this place doesn't.
