We enjoyed a very nice meal here before attending Julius Caesar at the theater. Our guide had recommended a couple of other places but we chose to come here on our own. So glad we did. This was one of the best meals that we had during our 10 stay in the UK.
Farm to table food - Brit style, done right! Lots of game and fish on the menu. I am probably an odd ball but I really enjoy chicken livers so that was what I began my meal with. They were flavored so well and were quite enjoyable. I shared with hubby and he liked them as well. Son had the scallop special appetizer and shared with Dad too. They enjoyed those sweet succulent medallions very much. Then they brought a very nice pallet cleanser of watermelon shots. It worked perfectly and was very refreshing. For my main I had the duck. Not the most tender in the world but very flavorful. I also like the accompanying sides. Hubby had the fish special which looked lovely. Son had the steak which he, of course, devoured.
Just a quick note on the drinks. Hubby likes to try any local ales when we are traveling. He was not disappointed here. They were serving a local brew that you can pretty much only get around Stratford upon Avon. Son was worried that it would be served warm as they like to do in England but the was served cold. Both the men really enjoyed it. It was a dark beer but not bitter.
Service was good. A bit slow but so incredibly friendly. The restaurant wasn't very busy as we were there quite early so we had some time to talk with our server about the food and town. read more
New in town, opened last winter.
I little bit expensive, especially for the wine, but a really good surprise in Stratford upon Avon.
Perfect for a diner for two in a good restaurant.
