Let me start by saying that, in my experience, this is completely inaccurate. Coaches are not meant to be your child's "friend." Their role is to guide, mentor, teach discipline and build accountability. These are important values that help children grow not only in sports but also in life. Maybe part of the problem today is that many children are being raised on feelings rather than facts, and discipline is sometimes mistaken for being harsh. In reality, structure and accountability are exactly what young athletes need to grow and succeed. I completely trust Coach Mejia with my daughter. She consistently instills responsibility, structure, and accountability in the athletes she coaches, and I truly appreciate the positive impact she has had on my child over the past two years. We arrived 10 minutes before class, and when I checked in with the front desk, the staff member told me everything was in order. However, about 10 minutes into the class, the coach suddenly pulled my daughter out, saying she wasn't on the list. The front desk staff member was on the phone with another customer and remained on the call for another 10 minutes, offering no assistance. At that point, I decided to leave. No one made any effort to fix the situation, and my daughter never got to do the trial class at all. It was incredibly disappointing for me and for her , it was disrespectful and felt like they simply didn't care.

They have games between their students, which again is super sad as they dont have enough kids to make even 1 team. So they switch kids from teams to play w kids they never played or trained with. Still have to pay to watch that nonsense. Even gave all the kids a trophy one time for ZERO reasons. It was supposed to be a championship I guess but not enough kids. So there were no winners or losers and they didnt even keep score. When they did keep score it was never correct. Scorers on sidelines were hanging out and not watching the games. Took away the saturday games to play another league that we had to pay to play in. They said they needed 10 kids. I assumed it was for 2 teams, but it was for 1 team. Bball masters charged $150 per kid but the actual cost for league was $130 PER TEAM. Sweet $1400 and it cost them nothing as they used the coach that would have been coaching on Saturday. We still had to pay full price for the month even without Saturdays. Then half the kids rode the bench 90% of the game. I asked the coach why and he said its to win games and put best lineup in. (Complete BS. The best kids were on the bench the whole game.) We were down by 20 pts the whole game. The kids on the bench were WAY better then those on court. But it shouldnt be like that for a league like this. Every kid should have had equal time playing. Zamira (The owner) called me immediately after I called the coach out on his lies (I told him it was a BS answer, which got my kid kicked out of the league. THANK GOD!) She then told me the truth. It was because the kids that had been with them the longest get to play the whole game and the newer kids needed to watch them as they hadnt competed before. (I guess every single Saturday for months didnt count apparently) Had nothing to do with winning or competing. The other teams were rotating their whole team during the game. They did not need 10 kids. It was just $750 in her pocket. There was at least 3 coaches when my kid started and when he left there was only 1. Just a real crap show over there! GO ANYWHERE BUT THERE!!

Brian offers novice and intermediate group classes throughout the week and a package of six sessions costs $225. Classes take place at Kirk Monroe Tennis Center in Coconut Grove in the evenings. The classes I attend start at 8:00 pm and last until 9:30 pm, with an optional warmup at 7:30 pm. Attendance varies but is usually anywhere from 4-8 people depending on the night. Overall, I've learned a ton the handful of times I've gone. Brian is very knowledgeable and passionate about the sport. My fellow classmates are super friendly and encouraging... I'm starting to progress and will hopefully be confident enough one day to take part in one of the tournaments he organizes. No matter where you are on your tennis journey, I'd recommend giving Backhand City a try if you're looking to fine tune your skills!

Swimming was one of our top priorities when enrolling the boys because they were not confident in the water. My youngest was still using floaties when we started and my oldest needed a boost to improve his skills. Needless to say, we quickly had to transfer from their Gables location to their Bird Road location because of how much they had learned. Bird Road teaches the upper levels because of the distance Levels 4/5/6 swim. The coaches here are incredible, they are so patient and caring. Depending on the age/level of your child, you can book a confirmed class with the same person every week. If your son/daughter change levels, most probably they will also change coaches. You should arrive no more than 5 minutes before your class begins for crowd control because of COVID restrictions. They welcome you with hand sanitizer upon entry and a wrist band for the coach the child will be with. Once inside, parents/caregivers can watch all the action take place! Monthly payments are automatically set and the rates are fantastic. I wouldn't trade our experiences with Ocaquatics for the world. Very grateful for their diligence, expertise and convenience to make it easier on parents to teach about water safety.
