They don't just sell you a package and then that's it... all the staff are awesome! What I appreciate the most is that you can have 0 skill set or fitness level or be at a 10/10 and this is a perfect fit! The reason being, your only competition is yourself. If you're just easing into it, or you're in the best shape of your life... you would just increase intensity all while still getting an amazing workout in. Each day, is different exercises and reps so you don't get bored with the workout. Except the 1st station, which is warm up and is skipping. As a kid I used to be able to skip for hours, so I thought... hey, this will be easy. Lol 3 minutes of jumping rope when you're outta shape kicks my ass. But it gives me incentive to keep going and keep building to what I know I'm capable of. What's great is at each station when you switch... theres a trainer there to explain/show you what to do. They are there to show you as well as motivate you and keep you going. I can't say enough about how great they are. Instead of just buying a gym pass and hitting the fitness walls and issues of typical gyms, why not check out 9 rounds and get the most bang for your buck when it comes to you improving your fitness :) and better yet, they clean everything for you!

Upon entering the facility, the trainers as well as the members were very welcoming. After getting changed into workout gear, Sam took the time to explain how everything works at 9Round. Once that was done, we were able to start our workout. There are 9 stations total (pretty obvious considering the name of the place!). Rounds 1-2 are strength based where you will do exercises with dumb bells, kettle bells, medicine balls, jump ropes and other equipment. Rounds 3-8 are where you will do your Kickbox exercises with different types of moves (ie punching and kicking) on different bags. Round 9 is the ab and core station. You are at each station for 3 minutes with a 30 second break in-between each for a total 30 Minute workout. There are trainers there that help you through out each exercise. They will also help you wrap your hands and put your gloves on. Once your gloves are on, they will help you with anything - and I mean ANYTHING! Shoe is untied? Trainer will tie it for you. Need your shirt tucked in? Trainer will be there to help with that as well. And the best part? You don't need to clean up the equipment or wipe anything down after each exercise - the trainers do that too!! I found the trainers to be very knowledgeable, helpful, welcoming and kind. I had an absolute blast and I'm already looking forward to my next workout! I can't wait to see what my future holds at 9Round Leduc and reaching my fitness goals.

Aside from classes, NME frequently plans outings (white water rafting, axe throwing, etc) and events in the gym (meal prep, workshops to promote wellness). They really care about the WHOLE person, not just the packaging..... and I love this!! The last thing I want to add is that Cheryl, the owner, cares - about everyone. You'll see what I mean, if you try this place out. It's WAY more than a gym, it's a community. Everyone is welcome.

They will notice that you are new and help you get set up for class, and all the instructors make working out feel fun and inclusive. Regardless of your fitness level, you will fit in and feel welcome. The owner, Cheryl, cares about each member and takes the time to learn everyone's name- plus she's funny and entertaining to take class from, she helps you forget the pain of the workout (at least a little bit)! The only downside I can say is that it can feel a bit pricey if you're comparing to a monthly gym membership, but if you work out the per class cost it is really reasonable and definitely worth the extra money. Paying in advance for registered classes is great motivation to keep going to class, something I always struggled with when I had monthly memberships. Definitely check it out, especially if you are just getting started or getting back on track with your fitness/exercise journey- you won't regret it!

However, as I am a member and frequent this place multiple times a week, I cannot help notice small observations that can be easily improved. First of all the strengths. It offers a wide variety of options considering it's expansive size where there is a diverse variety of fitness options such as swimming, multitude of fitness classes, weights, cardio and the list goes on. Parking is great as it offers convenient spots for mothers and small children. There are amazing locker facilities and exclusive services for a premium (spa like atmosphere like your own personal lockers, towels service, massage, steam room, exclusive showers). Cardio machines and strength equipment are state of the art. There are treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, and stairclimbers for miles, where each is equipped with monitors that can provide internet, tv, YouTube, or strictly your workout monitor. Staff are friendly available from 530AM-1030PM. They even have child care. Despite all my praises, here are my concerns: *Entrance/Exit should have automatic sliding doors with the high volume of traffic. Although it's gentlemen like and great karma to hold the door for many streams of people, it disrupts flow, and takes up time. * It would be great to have a key fob to quickly pass through the sensors as opposed to trying to find your access card in wallet, passing it through the sensor and having to tuck it back into your purse/wallet. I know it sounds petty, but when you're pressed for time coming in 4 times a week, every second counts. Not only other clubs have this, but their fobs give you 24 hour access. *I understand that with the vast service they provide, membership is a pretty penny. I paid 700 dollars for one year. I would have liked it if they offered two semi annual payments as opposed to just monthly or one lump sum. Overall, I am very satisfied with the service at this fitness facility. It offers something for everybody no matter what your fitness level is. There are significant personal instruction, classes, and the availability of unlimited equipment. However, it is not without its minor flaws that can be easily corrected.

They do offer a newcomer promo for $40 for 2 weeks, and then you can decide whether this workout is for you. And then there is not enough amazing things I can say about the owner, Natasha. She is cool, fun, positive and amazing at Surf Set fitness. I caught the tail end of one of the kids classes; amazing! Not only that but the staff communication has become contradictory and frustrating. Some of the coaches are better than others, sure, but my kid did get at least one bleeding nose that wasn't spotted by the coaches that day. Repeated nagging on billing issues that were already resolved, email advertising for a PD Day camp on a day that wasn't a PD day but rather the national day of Truth and Reconciliation, disorganized classes, and the no longer availability of lockable lockers for belongings all contributed to a worsening experience. There is now a lot of competition in the kids ninja gym space so we will go elsewhere. Sadly this was one of the only facilities that catered toward the really young kids when we started here, and it really was excellent at first with good transit accessibility, awesome coaching staff, and more. Now, the formerly 1 hour classes are only 50 minutes, some days there isn't even an obstacle course, and the seating in the viewing area is less comfortable. Following this business's NIMBY anti-safe consumption space advocacy, I find it hard to encourage anyone to go here. I definitely find that a lot more parents are unsatisfied with the kids classes. Plus it is quite cold in here.

The trainer I had for the class, Stacey, kicked our sorry butts to the corner of the street and back! Her great energy and enthusiasm spurred us on, considering she was carrying a little human in her belly! I tip my hat off to you Stacey! There is a high percentage of elderly people but I brought my daughter with me and we work out together. It is also unusual in that it is pretty low-frills. No elaborate change room (curtain) or showers to up your membership fees. You come, work out and go home. The new owners are sprucing the place up and will be painting at the end of November 2012. Many of the members are used to working out with each other and a sense of community has been formed there. It is a really homey atmosphere as the management lets members display things they have for sale, there is a book trading shelf as well as a "I've grown out of this, do you want it" rack. The workout on the circuit is as strenuous or light as you would like. It is all hydraulics so the faster and harder you work, the harder it becomes. I have seen women basically sail through it without even breaking a sheen, never mind a sweat. I have also seen women work hard and get what is obviously a great workout in. You can purchase memberships on a month-to-month basis for $49, which is what I am doing. If you purchase a year in advance it is a bit lower of a rate. In the end, it depends what type of experience and gym you are looking for. I would recommend this one for those that are easily intimidated by gyms, haven't previously attended a gym, have special physical needs (obesity, seniors, recovering from illness) or you just want a low key place to get a workout in.
