I spend a fair amount of time here, especially when I need a break from my computer. I've been…read moreattending for two years, and chose this location over the others around town because it was close to my work. Goodlife is a great gym, albeit expensive. Since they took over Nubody's, they've added a whole load of new classes, including the wildly popular Zumba. Since this place is right in the heart of downtown St. John's, businessmen and women flock here between 4:30 - 5:30 p.m., and it gets BUSY. You also get the usual crowd of people who aren't really there to work out, but men who stand idly to the side flexing their muscles while gawking at women, or women who show up with more make-up caked on than is appropriate even for a strip club. Service is friendly, however, and I never have problems using their equipment. I've been to the other Goodlife gyms, and they're great, but this one has the most open space (other than the Women's Only section, which kinda sucks).

Kenny's Pond - we go back a long way…read more When I was a little girl and my sister and I were new to the city - you were the pond in our backyard. Your bugs, and fish and plants were our playground . Growing up you were the pond down the street - where we hung out in the summer and skated on in the winter. Passed through a million times going here and there over the years. You grew up too; lots of changes, starting with the walking trail. These days you are part of a network of walking trails through the city. Then you got into golf and like most - your interest in golf has been long-standing and varied: driving range, putting greens and now today - mini golf! Lots of wildlife here too. Parking just off of McDonald Drive.

Good for those evenings after work when you need to clear your head or get your legs moving after eating a big meal. When I've walked around here I've noticed other locals that do the same. On my walk there were no notice of bugs and I made my way around and back before dark. I believe it's important that city's make trails around nature where possible as it encourages exercise and activity that is necessary in our busy lives!

Lane rentals are at reasonable…read moreprices, the lanes are well maintained and it is the only place in the metro area that has 10 pin bowling with a variety of bowling balls ranging from 7-15 lbs in mass to accommodate almost everyone (it also has 5 pin bowling available). They have a well stocked snack bar (which includes beer and some alcohol) as well as a lounge area for legal patrons (19 years of age or older) and a party room for birthday parties or other celebrations. There are several leagues which are held during the year, including a 10 pin bowling league which is a great opportunity to have a night out and meet new people. As well, if you like darts, they hold several dart leagues as well (must be 19+). Definitely a great place for all age groups and personalities. You have to check this place out.

If you decide to drive the pot-hole laden, austere Irish loop all or part of the way, or simply out…read moreto Cape Spear the Mini Aquarium in Petty Harbour is worth a stop or small detour. First of all, Petty Harbour has to be one of the largest and most picturesque towns in southern Newfoundland. You can actually find a bite to eat and some scenic photo spots here. The Mini Aquarium is indeed a small place. As you come into Petty Harbour you will see its sign on the side of the building and have little trouble getting there. Inside there are two small rooms with about 20-25 tanks of various species of Newfoundland Marine life. Each room has a few tanks where you can "pet" various creatures such as star fish. Washrooms are available here as well. The cost for an adult was 8-9$ (I can't remember exactly). This price was worth it to me, if in some small way to support this educational place. The staff were extremely knowledgeable and helpful with information. I came rather indifferent to making the stop, yet left glad I did.

Ok first off, before I looked up the website to add to this business page, I was under the…read moreimpression that this park was pronounced ba-na-men park. I GREW UP HERE. That's just ridiculous. Well... The More You Know. This park is a little hub in the city that hosts everything from the folk festival to found memories of the first time I tried wine while sitting in the gazebo. It's a great piece of central green space that has a little bit for every one. Whether it's sight seeing for touristy folks, a spot to sit down and down some lunch picnic style or a play place for the kiddies - it's a pretty nifty park. Last time I was here, it had (and was) undergoing some pretty serious upgrades & maintenance, so that's nice to see they are keeping this place well groomed. On a nice day, it's the perfect spot to grab ice cream and take a wander through.
