We had a party of 8 so were able to make reservations. It's a good thing because the place was already hopping at 5:30 when we arrived. The decor was very nice and it was in an old brick building near downtown Evansville. The high ceiling, open to the ductwork, was appealing but made for a noisy, echoey dining experience. We ordered a variety of appetizers: Steak with Asian Chimichurri, Karaage (Japanese Fried Chicken) and Ahi Tuna. Yum to all! The fried chicken was my personal favorite. The waitress was very good at helping me find the right preparation for my meal, Steak with Asian Chimichurri. It came with a seasonal vegetable, glazed carrots, which I wanted to avoid along with rice, so I got broccoli with my steak. I had a cucumber mule which was delicious which definitely did not lack a ginger flavor. Desserts were shared: Honey Toast, Japanese Cheesecake, and Crème Brûlée du Jour. The Honey Toast reminded me of monkey bread, very tasty. The cheesecake was light and had a cake texture rather than a cheesecake texture. The Miso Butterscotch was an amazing addition to the cheesecake but beware, it adds 3.25 to your ticket. Truthfully, it was worth it because I can't imagine eating it without that butterscotch drizzle. The crime brûlée was also delicious. Note: Ramen is one of their specialties and there were several people in our party who ordered a Ramen meal. It's rare to find a decent bowl of ramen in this area, but look no more!!!! This downtown Evansville eatery also features "Japanese" fried chicken. I assume it's double fried, because the chunks of chicken are so crunchy. Definitely enough to share. The steak/chimmichuri appetizer was good... steak cooked to a medium rare, very tender and juicy. The Asian chimichurri had a anise flavor that wasn't really my favorite, but my husband loved it. You may balk at the prices, but I promise the ramen is worth every penny. Service was average, but they were very busy.... Even before noon!!! The dining room is open, but we were seated at a cozy booth. Of note was the dinner cocktail menu ( pictured) and the desserts. One of my new favorite restaurants in the EVV area! Great atmosphere with very nice deck/outdoor seating. The service was also great! The cocktail menu was reasonably priced and had a great mix of unique drinks and classics. We got the pork bao and gyzoa for appetizers- the bao were okay and the gyzoa were great! I've been to second language a few times and am basing my overall star ranking based on my overall experience. Overall, it's a great restaurant and I'm glad that Evansville has another place that offers ramen, desserts, and other Japanese dishes since Iwataya closed down. The ramens are great. Super flavorful and very filling and would highly recommend trying them. The chicken karaage appetizer is also good, but the price point is on the slightly higher end compared to other karaage appetizers I've had at other places. The reason why I'm not able to give a full 5 star rating yet is because of the the new lunch menu. Don't get me wrong, the new lunch options are awesome, and it has so much potential to being very good! I went here for a quick last minute lunch today and tried both the Chicken Katsu Sando and some of the Katsu Curry. The katsu sando was very good and I especially enjoyed the Japanese milk bread. However, I found the chicken katsu to be kind of cold. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be like that; but it didn't fully deter me from enjoying the sandwich. The chips were also very tasty. The Katsu curry needs some improvement though. Japanese curry is one of my favorite dishes to eat and I really wanted to like it. The curry roux had a good heat level, but to me it lacked the richness and depth in flavor that I usually associate with Japanese-style curry. I also found the jasmine rice to be a bit overpowering. Additionally, having pickled onion as a topping rather than pickled ginger or a pickled Japanese radish of some sort is an odd choice. Regardless of that, this dish has a lot of potential and I think making a few adjustments to it will make it a lot better! read more

I loved this little ramen joint. The waitress was very cool and personable. I went with the tan tan noodles. The only thing I will say is that I asked for chili paste to kick it up a little extra. I was talked into house made desserts (daily). The honey bread with butterscotch was the way to go. Tasted like an airy bread pudding. When I arrived I was quickly greeted and when sharing it was my first time in, an employee walked me through all the offerings in the case. I was so happy to see employees referring to some customers by name and even asking if they could bag a special to-go order for an older gentleman to make it easier for him to carry. The Rose Pistachio French Donut (#Cronut vibes) caught my eye first... filled with sweet pistachio cream & topped with blush rose icing -- #ExtraExtra, I'm all about it! We also tried the Triple Chocolate Vanilla French Donut as well. The French Donuts were very sweet, but with different flavors available/ monthly changes it's exciting to continue to try new flavor combos! I was quite pleasantly surprised to find ramen this good in Evansville. Not to bash the city or anything, but my personal experience is that ethnic foods of this quality are usually in bigger cities. The experience was wonderful and added to the magic of a great first date. We ordered the Karaage for appetizer and we loved it. Both of us got the Garlic Tonkatsu ramen. Very nice creamy + smoky + umami broth. Leo did a great job as our server (although they were pushing dessert on us right after we got the entrees). My only suggestion is to have Takoyaki on the menu as an appetizer, but I have a personal attachment to that dish. If I could give 4.5 stars I would: then it would be relative to offerings in other cities. But I am happy to give it 5 stars if it will help it succeed even more. read more
