Indian food in South Carolina is always a gamble. This place was pretty good, but the service was super slow.

**2 Gingers** on Bush River Road in Columbia is under new ownership, and the changes are immediately noticeable in a very good way. The menu has been streamlined, parking is plentiful, and the exterior has been freshly painted white, giving the place a clean, updated look before you even walk in. Inside, the space has been beautifully remodeled. It's bright, white, modern, and spotless, with tasteful accents that make it feel welcoming without being overdone. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout the visit. I missed their weekend buffet (which I'd love to try next time), but ordered the tandoori chicken with a side of garlic naan. The tandoori chicken was outstanding--deep, authentic flavor with just the right amount of spice. Enough heat to lightly tingle your lips, but not overpowering or lingering. Easily one of the most flavorful tandoori chickens I've ever had. The garlic naan was absolute perfection. If I lived closer, this would be a regular stop, especially to catch the buffet on a weekend. Highly recommended--definitely worth checking out. read more

What an amazing lunch! We had the Samosa Chatt app - delicious. My bestie had Coconut Curry Shrimp - again, fantastic! But the big winner was my Amul Butter Paneer Masala. It's hard to find as most indian restaurants don't carry it on their menu. That's why I LOVE 2 Gingers. It is the thing I love the most on their menu. Our server was the BEST - we're lucky he gave up NYC for Columbia, SC. He was super charming and excellent service. The chef came out and spoke to us and we were thrilled. So we just moved to Columbia and what better way to explore our new home base than through the ample food options Columbia offers. Now I love Indian food so 2Gingers was the perfect find. We were seated immediately and service was truly immaculate. We started off with some mango lassi which were homemade and you could taste the yogurt and fresh mango with every sip. For our family of 4 we opted with 2 entrees, a side of rice and 3 bread baskets to do more of the share and serve type of dinner. We opted with the mixed naan basket, the cheese naan basket and the lamb naan basket, some lamb saag ( spicy) and some butter paneer with a side of rice. Dinner was phenomenal and this will defiantly become a regular dinner spot for us while living here. Options for vegetarian dining on a Sunday evening in central South Carolina are not many, but I found this place. It's a sketchy building that isn't the cleanest. A lot of times this is where you find this sort of food. I got an aloo tikki chaat, which came with an absolute bevy of sev (fried chickpea noodles) on top. It was fine, not the most interesting variation of this dish I've ever tried. My dosa was more impressive; you can't fake a dosa and this was properly thin and crispy. The potato masala on the inside was one of the largest (and best spiced) versions I've ever had. The way these things are served is an embarrassment of riches; there were two chutneys and sambar on the side, but I didn't come close to finishing all the accompaniments because the flavor on the dosa itself was more than enough. I called ahead for take out based on a search for Indian food in my proximity after being stuck on I-20. The first thing I noticed was the 'C' rating from DHEC on the door when I entered. I was already there and decided to give them a try.We had the aloo mutter, paneer tikka masala, and dal makhani. I ordered everything 'spicy' but none of the three dishes were actually spicy. Everything was just okay and missing depth of flavors. I'm not sure if my experience was tainted by seeing the big 'C' on the window or the actual taste of the food. Because we were waiting so late there and wouldn't have gotten to Saint Simon's island before nightfall, and because we wouldn't have gotten our dessert if we hadn't reminded our waiter that we ordered it, I've knocked 2 Gingers back to 3 stars. I've been wanting to try this place for a while and finally was in the area when it was open. For the longest time I could never time it up to coincide with their business hours. It was definitely worth the wait though. The food was really good. They have one of the largest menus I've ever seen and it was frankly overwhelming. I ordered an appetizer, some naan bread and an entree to go. The food was quickly prepared and delicious. They had a massive amount of to go orders but it didn't slow down the kitchen. On the inside was a buffet that wasn't currently being offered. Next time I come I definitely want to give that a try. I was a little disappointed that they didn't know how to accept the 10% off any order coupon offered through yelp. The employee running the register said he'd have to check with his manager next time. One thing I noticed listed on my receipt was that my dish had mild listed next to it. I didn't realize there was a level of heat choice. I certainly would've preferred spicier if possible. The sauces provided did provide a kick though and it was a welcomed addition. Indian food is something that I have always longed to try, but never had a god opportunity until a friend brought me to this place. First off, the menu was pretty huge so it could help to have someone who knows how to navigate it. I wish I was able to keep track of everything we ordered, but it was so much. Some of the meals come in a family style which I enjoy and recommend because it allows for a more cohesive meal. The naan that came with the meals was absolutely delicious and complemented the chicken well. I do know we ordered the butter chicken which was well worth along with some delicious sauce. They had multiple health violations (8) last year for dangerous food! They've had a RED C on their door since last September with absolutely no reason as to why it's not being corrected. I have seen roaches, big and small running everywhere inside the kitchen. If you love food that has large pieces of BROKEN spices and don't mind possibly ending up with a throat/stomach obstruction then you'll love this place! Went there for tikka masala chicken and paid $20 for a pint of tikka masala and a small rice with 2 naan's. The price of food to how much I got was not equal. Only go when they have buffets. Been a long time customer since this place opened. Tried to eat here today. The sign on the door said they opened at 11:00 am and we walked in at 11:05. A guy sweeping the floor rudely said, "You can't come in here!"I looked back at the sign to make sure I read the time right and before I could say anything he again very rudely said, "You can't come in. Went here for lunch Saturday, based on a recommendation from a co-worker. We were a bit late, arriving around 1:00PM so it wasn't real buys, although there were probably 10 cars or so in the parking lot. Immediately were seated in a booth. I'm not familiar with all of the names on Indian food, but always looking to try new food. We weren't sure what we were going to order, but they had a luncheon buffet set up for $12.95. Figured we'd sample the buffet rather than order from the menu. They have an evening buffet on Wednesdays. Buffet throughout the week during lunch (or you can order from the menu). The first buffet to the left is a vegetarian buffet with a couple of soups. Then there are desserts. To the right is another meat buffet with chickens, goat, rice and a saucy shrimp, among other things. Can't tell you what I ordered since I can't remember it, but I tried several of the vegetarian dishes. One seemed to taste like juicca but with a bright orange coloring to it (and also quite spicy). They had a Mulligatawny soup that was excellent, along with a type of small bread (round, sort of crisp outside, pancake-like) that was very good. On the meat side I the tandoori chicken was very good, another chicken Bhutrin or something like that (with rice) was excellent, a chicken in curry sauce. The shrimp were baby shrimp but very tender and not overcooked. Have to say the food was very good. Both my wife and I enjoyed it thoroughly and would go back. I was impressed at how often they checked on us to see how the food was and the cleanliness of the buffet. One of the workers was always up there cleaning up around the buffet....much different than some of these buffets we've been to at smaller restaurants. Great place. Highly recommend it. read more
