What a hidden gem! This place is so much fun and Emily is a fantastic teacher. And what a value. A dear friend joined my husband and me for classes and we all had a blast making useful and fun items. Out friend, John, liked the table work better so made the coolest items from clay slabs. A beer mug for himself, a gorgeous plant pot for his mother and several items for his wife (gifts!) and others. Amazing! My husband and I used the wheel, so we made several plant pots, coffee mugs, dishes and other useful items. It is so rewarding to use your hands to watch something come to life. It was a blast and we walked away with handmade forever treasures. Do yourself a favor. Go check this place out!

After decades regularly coming to Saugatuck, somehow we'd never made it to the Saugatuck Center for…read morethe Arts. It was not from a lack of want, but rather a combo of few different roadblocks: having other things going on when we were in town or not having programming that we were interested in when we were there or just not having anything scheduled at that time full stop. But we finally made it here for a bit this summer and it was as great as expected. First off, I still have not seen a show here, which is a great failing of ours, but we did explore the grounds and the building. It was a Friday afternoon and we were able to enjoy the farmer's and artisan's market going on in the parking lot. It's not a huge market but they do have multiple vendors covering the things you'd go look for--fresh fruits and veggies, eggs, honey and jams, etc. We had a great time checking out the stalls and vendors all nestled in between the beautiful blooming gardens around the building. Afterwards, we head inside the building to check it out. There wasn't much activity but we were lucky enough to see a few artists' gallery showcases which were moving and really engaging. It was an inspiring visit and we've made it our pledge to make sure we get to some performance there this year. I can't wait to see a show there!

This place was fun. One of the reasons I chose this past weekend to visit Holland/Grand…read moreHaven/Saugatuck was because The Accidentals, one of my favorite bands, were doing a free concert here, on Saturday night. Apparently the Saugatuck Center for the Arts does a lot of summer concerts, as well as plays and other performances. They had a really nice outdoor area, which is where the concert was held, and indoors was also open, if you wanted to browse their displays, or use their restroom, which was nice. During the concert they also had food trucks on-site and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for purchase, as well as some Accidentals merch. Definitely would come back here for a concert if I'm in Saugatuck again this summer, although next time I will bring a lawn chair for myself, too, as there weren't many chairs available otherwise.

I've always had a creative side and enjoyed the idea of learning more artistic outlets, so when I found out that they do classes, I had to join in! My friends have always talked about doing a watercolor class so when I went on to their site, I saw quite a few for the day but none in the evenings. I messaged them on Instagram and they immediately shared with me the upcoming watercolor evening classes to sign up. They do a lot of day time classes for kids but also have a variety of classes that you can sign up for throughout the month. Facebook seems to be the most up to date spot for events. This class was the "Watercolor Rainbow" where the owner provided each station with practice paper, a larger watercolor paper for our "creation" and our own paint palettes. We walked through different techniques of wet on wet, wet on dry, how to add more texture and even remove some of the paint if it was too wet. It was a great experience to dabble back into watercolors and I will definitely be looking into other classes here in the future!

Tipsy Brush Studio is like Paint Nite, but it is family owned and operated and the painting is on site. The owner Sandee holds open paint time in addition to the scheduled classes she teaches and parties she hosts (up to twenty people). Working with many people who vary in artistic abilities, she is personable, flexible, and helpful. We are novice painters, and we chose open paint time and decided just to have fun with it. Sandee was extremely accomodating and encouraged us to use her own pieces of art for inspiration. Although she wasn't teaching, Sandee answered our questions and provided us with practical tips. Currently, this is a BYOB establishment, but she talked about waiting on a liquor license to connect to the bar she owns next door. Overall, we had a great time and look forward to coming back again!

The Tipsy Brush Studio exceeded my expectations in every possible way. Be sure to plan your next girls night (or family night. Or whatever group activity) with Sandee at Tipsy Brush!
