I have just recently finished a Happy Hound training program with my 14-month-old Poodle mix with Tara Siefring of the Happy Hound, and the difference in our stubborn little girl, Jackie, is like night and day. Jackie is not an aggressive dog, but she is quite hard-headed, and like most young, confident dogs, she wants to do what she wants to do. But after our first session with Tara, Jackie was already responding, and by the third week of training, I felt comfortable enough to take Jackie into the park near my home off-leash. Of course three weeks is not the whole story, and Jackie and I have a lot more work to do, but we are on the right path. And not only is she better behaved, but maybe even more important, I have a clearer idea of what it takes to lead her to better behavior. So Jackie and I have both learned a great deal about better behavior from Tara! Tara herself is knowledgeable, dedicated, and great to work with. She'll come to your house for private training, or board your dog for more intensive work. After your dog finishes a Happy Hound program successfully, Tara offers ongoing Saturday morning group sessions for socialization and learning new techniques/tricks. She also maintains a Facebook group for her clients, and her Happy Hound website is packed with all sorts of dog information. Our training involved the use of an electronic collar, but STOP! Don't go away because of that! These are not the scary "shock collars" from years ago. Tara had me hold the receiver unit in my hand before she ever put it on Jackie, and even at a setting of 20 (out of 100), I could barely feel a buzz. And that was MUCH lower than the setting we use for Jackie. Jackie has now learned that when the collar goes on, it's time for fun, so it is effective, but it's not a threat to her. So, if you have reservations about using an electronic collar, I hope you'll re-think your position and give it a try. You won't be sorry. It should be clear by now that I highly recommend Tara Siefring and the Happy Hound for your dog training needs! You and your dog will be happier for it!

They become destructive and anxious if they don't receive enough mental stimulation. How they are trained is very important as well. Many trainers want to use prong or e- collars on this breed. I was thrilled to find Jennifer that trains with reward and not pain or fear. When we began classes with her my puppy could not be left alone in a crate for 5 minutes without him trying to eat through the bars. If he was left out of the crate,he ate my door jambs and even my Sheetrock. From 6 months old to 9 months old her classes and instructions have totally changed my pup. I can now leave him at home in a crate with him being relaxed and take him on walks with me being able to relax. Her ideas for mental stimulation worked wonders. It's extremely hard to find someone you trust with your precious animals and she is so good with every animal I've ever seen her with. They have 3 large fenced in grass areas where the dogs can run, play or just lounge around. They keep the kennels and grass areas very clean. We had to drag them back in when we returned....stress was written all over them. We knew we had found the right place when we came to Waggy Tails. By the second visit, on the way there they seem to know they were going to see their favorite extended "Family" and all their buddies. Jerry and Honey show them affection and attention when they are there and this makes them comfortable with their surroundings and their accommodations because they are right at home. My babies are social but when being boarded I prefer them to be separated from other dogs due to us being out of the area and you just never know how animals will react to each other in any situation and it's better to be safe than sorry. They accommodate our wishes and I truly believe our pets feel safer with their situation away from us and home with them like this, could be why they didn't feel comfortable at other kennels we took them to, the other kennels we took them to insisted on putting them with other dogs for playtime (even when asked not to) and I think even though they engaged with some, it was intimidating for them. The routine here definitely fits our pets personalities better. Our babies are still happy to see us when we come home, thank goodness. lol! But they also don't crawl out of the door in fear when leaving and they always are happy to come back. If you're looking for a place where you're pets will be as comfortable, safe and as happy as they can be away from home, this is it!

Recently took my tripod Yorkie for grooming. New to area and based on online reviews decided to…read moretake her to The Animal House for grooming. She is a 10 year old who has been groomed regularly her entire life with only one incident of injury (a cut in between her paw pads). All groomers have consistently praised her for being a sweet dog and a pleasure to groom. Dropping her off found facility appearance and greeting was pleasant. When I picked her up the owner advised my dog was kind of squirmy during grooming. Immediately upon returning home she began persistent licking and chewing all over her body and it was obvious that either her skin was very irritated or she had possibly picked up some fleas. Upon inspecting her I found she had multiple clipper burns on her belly and on the insides of her rear legs. Also noted her hair cut was pretty choppy and overall it did not appear she had been groomed by an experienced professional. After 5 days of the constant licking and chewing I took her to the veterinarian to see if it could be determined what was causing such terrible irritation. Vet believed she was having an allergic reaction possibly to the shampoo as when she examined her closely found raw spots all over her body but no visible evidence of fleas so she put her on a 15 day course of prednisone. Now after 7 days of prednisone she is much better. Vet expressed that maybe she shouldn't be groomed there anymore. Based on the poor quality of cut, multiple clipper burns and such serious skin irritation I don't believe we will be using this groomer again.
