229 club in London is the worst music venue ever! Paid £6 each to watch 4 bands, only 2 bands turned up, not offered even an apology!!!!! Doorman drunk chugging beer - avoid this place! We told the batman that we had come to watch 4 bands as shown on website, the claimed that this want the case. And since we didn't get to see the main featured band lazlo, we should have been offered a refund or at least an apology!!!!

At the top of Great Portland Street is an unobtrusive building with limited signage buuuuut inside there is a live venue with 2 halls that hosts gigs, club nights and comedy nights. The two venues are also available for hire (together or separately) and have been used for galas, fashion shows and corporate events. I recently went to a Timeout Rising Stars gig, which are running throughout Spring in various locations. The event itself was good; reasonably priced for an evening of live music, varying artists and a nice vibe. The venue we were in is big, with a bar along the back serving craft beers, reasonably priced wine and spirits with mixers, a large stage and plenty of space to stand and watch (however very little seating along the sides). I am NO expert with sound and lighting but both seemed good to me! Food wise there is only a vending machine by the toilets so make sure you eat before hand! Overall a nice venue and a great evening listening to live music!

Great evening seeing Ezio. Friendly people. Reasonably priced wine. Music to dance to. An evening well spent.

Honestly, pretty disappointing experience…read more First off, you have to pay a cover just to get in, which would be fine if the experience matched--but it didn't. Once inside, it was packed and really hot (especially compared to how cold it was outside), so naturally we had jackets with us. There were stools around the club and we put our jackets on them like many other people were doing. A female security staff member came over multiple times telling us we couldn't put our jackets there, even though others were doing the exact same thing and we were right next to it. The way she handled it came off unnecessarily rude and aggressive, which really killed the vibe for us. On top of that, the bathroom attendant was basically pressuring people to tip just for handing out paper towels, which felt uncomfortable and awkward. Overall, between the inconsistent rules, the attitude from staff, and the pressure for tips, it just wasn't an enjoyable experience. Definitely expected better.

The place is a little small and you don't get much service in there as it's like a small basement downstairs. They have a coat check and also a happy hour if you go early. Do not take cash as the bartenders can be very rude and say they don't accept cash when they really do. We literally had to leave the club and walk across the street to get change for a $50 bill. The bar manager seemed nice and sweet but her other two rude bar back ladies were very unprofessional and seemed to not want to be there. Dj was awesome and music was on point. A mixture of hip hop and reggae-ton. Not sure I would go back just based on the two female bartenders who gave us a hard time.

Brilliant place. Had a fantastic time. If you don't go out often and save up a bit of money this…read moreplace is definitely worth having a look at if you are open to weirdness and Victorian strip club feel. It ain't an average club. I read a lot of bad reviews so I was a bit apprehensive but in my experience the staff were decent and caring enough to worry about how you might get home if you looked a bit worse for wear. Currently on bus home

Looking for obscenely decadent late night fun?…read more The Box is over the top London at its finest. It's part night-club, part Burlesque show and part weird sex performance theatre. Go with an open mind, a full wallet, and a willingness to drink heavily and you will have a rocking time. Yes you will see lots of oiled up naked women dancing above bathtubs, pre-op transvestites doing unmentionables with bottles of champagnes, and perhaps a royal or two. The Box is somewhere between ridiculously and absurdly expensive---try £3000 for a table on a weekend night. However, this gets you into a jumping venue with a great dj and of course multiple live "performances." The happening and surprisingly friendly crowd is definitely willing to party and dance the night away. Tip try not to get a front row table for the performances---its akin to the "splash zone" at Seaworld, only here there is a very good chance you will either get covered in baby powder cocaine or soiled with back-washed champagne that came out of a non-mouth orifice---yeah, don't ask!
