I stayed here for a business trip this time around. Handy having a restaurant and bar downstairs. The art wasn't as impressive or intriguing this time. There was a lot of empty wall space. But I've heard that since the ownership change, 21C isn't quite the same as far as art goes. I got a basic king room. Bed was comfortable, linens soft and sleek. Had a decent sized TV, a couch, a chair, modern fixtures. The shower was hot and had great pressure. Roomy bathroom. I will agree with some others who say there is a lot of noise outside. A lot of loud trucks with obnoxious mufflers and ambulance sirens. This doesn't bother me, as I've spent the last six years in NYC, but it may drive some crazy. Blackout drapes aren't perfect, but decent. Mine were detached from the track when I arrived, but maintenance fixed it lightening fast. Staff is very professional. Valet is 30 bucks a day, but they are fast and efficient. The cost when I visited in December, right before new years, was about 120 a night (again, valet is 30 on top of that), but room is great and location is right downtown. You can walk to so many great restaurants and bars. Definitely recommend. read more

An amazing place to stay. The art and galleries they have setup are wonderful. They provide a great experience. The hotel staff, especially Micalah at tye front desk, made our stay a six star stay, if we could rate it that high. This was the end of the birthday celebration for my partner. Overall, we had a nice stay here primarily because the location is great, the room big and comfortable and the staff at the bar were great and mostly those in the restaurant were good too. Warm and accommodating. We purchased Bed and Breakfast. Beware. Breakfast means 2 of us had a $18/morning credit. Given breakfast entrees are over $10 each and with coffee, you will spend money each day for 2 of you. In other words, it doesn't include full breakfast costs. The food was tasty though. The other downsides--our room was never restocked well after cleaning. The would take towels and not replace them. The last day they cleaned was clearly a rush job--not very clean. We asked at the front desk one evening for an extra blanket and more coffee pods. They didn't come so had to call later to get them. Their blankets are VERY thin--more like bedspreads so you may need a few. The one time we asked the valet for information he was helpful. We would stay here again but beware of the downsides. read more

Nice rooms, but the worst customer service I have ever experienced at a hotel. We had multiple problems throughout the day, but honestly, what hotel doesn't have occasional issues. What is unconscionable is the way we were treated after calling the front desk when the comcast service went down in the middle of a movie we purchased. The supervisor at the front desk was clearly annoyed that we even called to ask about it, said the service was out for an indefinite time, never apologized, saying he was not "an engineer" when we asked if there was nothing that could be done, saying we could complain to the manager when they arrived at 11:00am in the morning. We have recommended 21c in the past, but if you can't adhere to the very basics of customer service and show even a modest amount of empathy for the people you have let down due to a problem with your service . . . There are many other, more professionally run hotels in Lexington that truly care about their customers. You should try those. Certainly we will. read more

21c was a comfortable hotel for us to spend eight nights during our stay in Lexington. The staff was friendly and the room rate wasn't bad for a downtown hotel. The room was basic, but large enough for two adults and a toddler. The hotel was kind enough to provide a complimentary pack and play for our toddler and a mini fridge that I requested. The room was fairly clean, but dust sat on obvious spots like end tables and the tv stand all week. The front desk staff and valets at the hotel were all friendly and accommodating. We had a lot of interactions with them since we were there for over a week. We checked in late at night so I appreciated that they were quick to bring up the pack and play and refrigerator. The valets always pulled our car around quickly. I was impressed with how smooth the valet process was. The cost to valet a car here was $30 per night. There is a public lot a block away that is $12 if you prefer. We opted to spend the $240 for valet since it was often rainy and I didn't want to make the walk at night alone. For anyone who needs coffee as soon as they wake up like I do- there is a Nespresso machine in the room. They offered pods ranging from medium to dark roast. I was excited to try this machine because I have been considering one for home. Thank you for allowing this mama to caffeinate while my toddler slept. There is a restaurant off of the lobby for dine in or room service. Their hours were mainly breakfast and dinner. Weekends were brunch only which didn't start until 10am. The food in the restaurant was really good and reasonably priced so this was a huge perk of staying here. The cleaning staff was hit or miss with restocking room essentials. There was one day we had plenty of everything. Another day they took all the dirty towels and only left one clean bath towel for three people. We were able to request more, but two towels should be the minimum. At points we also ran out of tissues and toilet paper. I was bagging up my own overflowing trash cans throughout the week. Maybe a downtown hotel just isn't used to a family staying for such a long period of time. The location is within walking distance to quite a few restaurants, coffee shops, and bars. Businesses seemed to be open more as we neared the weekend. Don't miss The Grove within/behind Harvey's Bar at the same intersection. It's more of an evening spot. They have a bar, charcuterie, a coffee shop, and a food truck. There is a cute courtyard to hang out. The Distillery District is less than 10 minutes away by car and has so many great local businesses to check out. 21C overall was a good choice for our Lexington stay. Wanting to find a hotel within a short driving distance from home we decided on the 21C in Lexington. Since we were familiar with the 21C in Louisville we were looking for a unique experience in an environment that showcases artwork. We were not disappointed. We had a bright, airy, modern room with a great view of downtown. The staff were courteous and friendly. We had dinner and breakfast at The Lockbox that made it very convenient. Fortunately we had a package plan that included breakfast at a reasonable price. The one thing we wish we had was a mini fridge and microwave. As Hilton Honors Rewards Members we had gotten accustomed to certain amenities. We truly enjoyed the fact that a historic bank building was converted into this incredible boutique hotel. Do note that valet parking is an extra $30. Despite that cost valet service was quick and painless with great service. Overall, our stay was memorable as we were celebrating our 41st anniversary. read more

I've come to the conclusion that no matter what 21c you visit, it is always a mini adventure. After visiting the Louisville, Nashville and Cincinnati locations, I've learned that this one is just as cool. Note: I have not stayed at this hotel, just explored the main area and the galleries. The museum is completely free to explore, which is a really cool thing to stop in and do if you're spending time in the city. There are a few different rooms and you will find different genres of art: photography, paintings, videography and some 3D pieces too. Most of it is modern/new age. Just walking around the hotel will inspire you. It is beautiful, and the front desk staff were very pleasant. They have a mini gift shop too, with hotel essentials and some cool Kentucky-themed gifts. The 21c is absolutely on my list of hotels to stay at. I could only imagine the rooms being just as fantastic as the rest of the building. read more

Called 48 hours ahead to cancel/change reservation due to unexpected and unavoidable factors. Was informed I'd be charged full price since their cutoff for changes is 72 hours. Now how cool is this place? A combination hotel and contemporary art museum, it is a treat for your senses from the minute you walk in the front door (did I mention it's also in an old historic bank building which makes it just that much cooler?) with the abstract light piece in the front hallway and big blue penguin standing just inside. Up a couple of stairs to the right you will find the check in staff who will warmly greet you and let you know that your room key gives you full access to both floors of the museum during your stay. We were starving and since the dining room had closed for the day, headed to the bar to see if we could get a drink and something to eat. Another cool space with soaring ceilings and a bar at one end, the bartender shared with us the menu (lots of late night dining options) and poured me a wonderful martini that made my night just that much better. Here's another tip- take that drink and while you are waiting for your food to show up- go wander the halls and check out the art. You'll think your food came up "way too fast" as you won't have a chance to see everything you want to see. As for the food? Quite tasty. We split a burger which was the bartenders recco and he wasn't wrong and had some potato "hunks" with creamy onion sauce for dipping. Kind of a grown up take tots but these are full chunks of potato, deep fried and delicious. My room was spacious and I loved the pop of color (think white room with a big green splash!) . And the bed was comfortable and welcoming. There is a coffee maker in the room as well as a nice bathroom with good products and even more important- good lighting! Never thought I'd say I wanted to head back to Lexington, Ky but now that I know the 21c is here, you can bet on where I'll be staying. Also learned there are locations in Durham, Louisville and coming soon to my home town of Chicago! Now that should be interesting! read more

Accessible on downtown's Broadway, you will want to valet your vehicle because street parking is limited. The hotel is located in an old converted bank, complete with a vault! The existing art is scattered throughout the museum-hotel with new installations in the works, according to the signage. There's also a dedicated art floor. We had a small corner room on an upper floor with a magnificent city scape perspective. Despite all the windows, the room was quiet. The coffee/teas as well as stocked frig were nice touches. The bathroom was large. Toiletries refreshing. I enjoyed the BEST rain shower too! We had a drink at the adjoining "Lockbox" - the location of the building's vault. Good central location if you are visiting downtown Lexington. Street noise was very loud on a Saturday night so you might want to bring earplugs. We would stay there again. read more

We chose 21c Museum Hotel because it was walking distance to our client business location and the Hotel sounded like an interesting place to lodge. The hotel was originally the Fayette National Bank, known mostly as the First National Bank. The bank vault with its original door is a private dining room. The Hotel is a combination contemporary art museum and boutique hotel chain. 21c Museum is exhibiting contemporary art from various ambitions. Some of the art exhibited is quite out there. The rooms seem to project a 60's trendy contemporary design with blue penguin statues on every floor in the corridors. This museum is inside of a hotel. It starts at the lower level and goes up to the 2nd floor. You are able to stop at the bar and carry your drink with you through the exhibit which definitely aids in the experience. The artwork was so diverse! It was a really good pregame after a hearty brunch and before getting into other activities for the day. Is it a museum or a hotel? Yes. I didn't stay here, but my friends did, and I was here for a private brunch. The food here was SO good. All your southern staples in gigantic portions. Plus they set up a bar (like, literally created a bar. I saw them take it down completely and was in awe). Past that, you can walk around and look at the art for free. Maybe even purchase a $1500 blue penguin (each 21c location has a different color!). They've got a ton of great art, and it's a great way to kill half an hour or so. This hotel is a trailer park masquerading as a 4+ star hotel. Do yourself a favor and never stay here. For starters. The room was disgusting. Severely stained carpets, soap scum and hard water buildup in the bathroom. The sound isolation was so poor you can hear conversations in the hallway. You can hear skateboards and bell carts on the sidewalk from the 11th story. Motorcycles revving consistently from 10p-1am. With cheering and shouting nearby. Yes part of that is being downtown. However, for $400+ a night I'd expect better sound insulation. Literally no other 4 star hotel I've ever stayed in has had sound issues like this garbage palace. The furniture in room is probably from your grandma or great grandmas yard sale. Squeaky old run down garbage. And the bed might as well be caltrop'd concrete. The beds at motel 6 are legitimately in a league above this appalling abbey's papier-mâché-esc mattress with springs that assault your hips at every turn. The only single redeeming feature of this lacking lodge is the places restaurant "Lockbox". It is worth having dinner there. Seriously don't stay at the hotel, but definitely pay for the lockbox. Lockbox legit worth the money. The hotel tho... yeah just don't stay there. read more

Beautiful hotel but lacking in hospitality possibly due to staff shortages? No one to valet car in a rainy day or assist with bags, no luggage cart around and the ladies at the front desk were nice but did the bare minimum. For the money $250 a night with cheaper options everywhere those are the things that create repeat customers. On checkout, one valet again -no help with bags on a rainy day and no overhang so we were drenched loading bags- we would have appreciated assistance (and tipped!). Possible they just don't have enough people on staff. Restaurant was great. Food delicious, service excellent there. Hotel needs work. Room was okay. The shower is a hazard- no hand rails, nothing to keep you from slipping on the very slippery tub. Bed is very soft. It's decorated nicely but without good service not worth it. read more

Having been around Lexington for much of my life, I once had a legal "runner" job which required me to pick up and drop off documents at the First National Bank Building. Clyde Stapleton, the Fayette County Master Commissioner, had on office on one of the upper floors, requiring law firms to send runners to and from the building with building/land sales documents. During the 80's, the building, while still in nice shape and filled with various businesses and offices, was a little dusty and was being shadowed, both figuratively and literally, by brand new office buildings which were quickly reforming Lexington's downtown skyline. What was to happen to Lexington's original skyscraper? Well, almost 40 years later the visionaries of the 21C Hotel Properties had an answer and a very good answer it was. Over New Year's Eve, I had the opportunity to stay overnight at the 21C and was impressed in every way with the renovation of the property and the service the hotel provided. The old First National Bank Building has been transformed into a world-class destination property, and we're lucky to have it in downtown Lexington! Just a quick walk from myriad restaurants, bars, shops, and the newly renovated (former) Fayette County Courthouse, it was perfect as we had reservations to celebrate the New Year's Eve at Dudley's about a 30 second walk away. From the valet/doorman's first greeting and the desk clerk's quick rundown of the hotel's services and amenities, we knew the 21C was ready to provide us with a first-class experience. The room had large windows and high ceilings, no doubt important original architectural/design elements from the buildings former days housing offices. From there, the room has been appointed with mid-century modern style furnishings, and a fully modern bathroom/shower, flat screen TV, and bed. Original (or original looking) tile hallways and the short walk to the elevators had me a little concerned about noise levels, especially with it being New Year's Eve. You can never tell with hotels...the nicest can be noisy at times, while cheaper ones incredibly quiet. No worries at 21C however, as the room was noise-free, even on one of the noisiest night of the year! More on the evening when I review the meal at Dudley's. Looking forward, I can't wait to stay at the 21C again and also give its restaurant Lockbox a try! read more

I update this review. After the less than pleasant stay a few weeks ago, Gabe (general manager) immediately reached out and wanted to correct the problem. We decided to use it as a date night. Upon arrival we were immediately upgraded to a suite. All I can day is wow. What a room. Absolutely spotless and Beautiful. The whole stay was 100000x better than the previous one (which I can honestly day was just a mistake. It happens) 21c is Lexington's best hotel. read more

I was very disappointed with my stay. 21C is suppose to be THE top hotel in lexington. We stayed on our wedding night, so I had high hopes. Afterwards, I'd argue the Hampton Inn is better. The hotel, which use to be an old bank, is very outdated. In an attempt to keep the look of the old bank, it seems creepily old. For the price you pay, the customer service did not meet expectations. The beds are comfortable and the soaps provided in the bathrooms are decent. The "art galleries" are lacking "art." Some galleries we're almost empty. You must valet park your car. I will say, this service was exceptional. Heed my advice, for the money stay in another top hotel, or better yet, save some money and stay in a Hilton. read more

There is a lot of unique art on the first and second floors of the building. Would be a really nice place to host an event or party. I also really want to try the Lockbox restaurant and bar. I haven't stayed at the hotel so this review will just be on the museum. We love the unique art pieces. A recent exhibit focused on pop culture. It's free to get into the museum, which is amazing. It makes for a fun thing to do for a night with friends or a fun date night downtown. Also, for those influencers out there, there are endless areas for your photo shoots and inspiration. In the museum there is a lot of beautiful art displayed and we had a fantastic time viewing each multicultural art piece and I highly recommend it and we will return soon. This museum is completely FREE, with booking ahead of time. You can go online to their website and book ahead of time or call. There is valet parking for the hotel guest but also parking on the street for meter parking. Please bring could for the meters in downtown Lexington. We went last weekend and didn't pay the mete due to it being the weekend. But check it out you won't be disappointed!! read more

If you are looking for a very cool, modern, hip place to have your wedding or social event, the 21c Museum Hotel is it! They have gorgeous space with huge windows overlooking downtown Lexington. And there are several rooms and spaces to work with. I was very impressed by the level of customer service we received. From putting together the contract to finalizing the floor plans and last minute details, everyone was incredibly quick to respond and very warm and helpful. It was just such a pleasure to work with Kaitlan and Molly - they made the entire experience so easy. On the day of the wedding, Molly and all the staff working were an absolute dream - they made sure everything was set just perfectly and even took the time to position one of the ceiling spot lights on the cake table (I hadn't even thought to ask for that). No detail was overlooked and everyone was so friendly throughout the day. During the wedding, Molly was present the entire time to make sure that everything ran smoothly. Which it did because the staff did a fabulous job with the food and the bar (everything was delicious!). She made sure to get the microphone ready when it was time for the toasts and helped me in advance with getting music to play from an iPad. Everything was absolutely impeccable. We could not have asked for a better planning experience or day-of treatment. Everyone went above and beyond to make sure that the ceremony and reception were perfect - they really made it easy and fun. On top of everything, they were very reasonably priced. It did not cost any more to have a wedding there on a Saturday and tables, chairs, and linens were included. I highly recommend this venue for any type of event! read more
