Cocktail reception at BBM
John D.

I hosted an insurance industry conference at the hotel this past week. We have planned this for months and I had guests coming in from all over the US. We had some communication issues at first, until we began communicating with Derrick Blevins and Patrick Hairston. They were both great to work with. During our event we utilized the Triple Crown Room, Wedding Room and also hosted an event in BBM. The deli style lunch we had for our event on Thursday was perfect. Thursday afternoon service at BBM was great. We had a portion of it reserved with 2 dedicated servers. Our cocktail reception went well. Our guests were happy with the venue. The only complaints we heard were some of the guest rooms had no heat. The hotel provided portable heaters for those guests.

The Hilton downtown met all my needs for my two night stay. When you arrive there's a nice bar to enjoy a drink or late night snack. Food closes at 10pm kind of early for a Monday. Rooms were clean and had breakfast the next morning.

Soft, comfy bed

I stayed here for 4 nights for a technical conference. Although I'm more of a Marriott fan, this hotel is in a good location that's an easy walk to lots of restaurants. Looking for a pharmacy or a big store like Walmart or Kroger is over a mile away. Rooms were comfy and amenities were good, so 4 stars. Likes * Beds were soft and comfy - slept soundly all 4 nights * Fitness center is clean, well-ventilated, and has lots of Precor machines, cable machines, cardio equipment, and dumbbells. They have an indoor pool too. * Good-sized meeting facilities * Decent catering for dinner - amazing fried catfish, risotto, fresh and crispy green beans, and amazing chocolate cake! * Good water pressure in the shower, with Crabtree and Evelyn products Dislikes * Wifi is free here but I found it spotty and unreliable * We had occasional audio/power problems one day in Grand Ballroom D that sorta threw our agenda off track. It was eventually fixed. * Toilet in the room flushes slowly

We were at this hotel for less than 24 hours for a wedding but we really enjoyed our stay here. A nice room with plenty of space, comfortable bed, and a great exercise room. The lobby was pretty and there were great photos throughout the hotel. And the location was great for local restaurants and businesses. It was a little rough at first getting to the hotel because there was a basketball game that night but the folks at the garage helped us find the right place to park. Overall great service. Only downside was when the housekeeping staff came 15 minutes before checkout time to ask when we were leaving. Seriously. They could have waited. Felt like we were an inconvenience to them.

Room

My husband and I stayed here three nights. My sister-in-law and other relatives also stayed here, as we were in town for a wedding. I liked the convenient downtown location. We were able to take a walking tour of nearby historic homes in the Gratz Park neighborhood. We were able to walk to restaurants and a liquor store. The neighborhood felt safe. The hotel was a good place for a family get together. There was a nice bar where we sat both indoors and outdoors. We had several decent breakfasts at the hotel's restaurant the Triangle Grille. We did not try the breakfast snack bar. The hotel provided a private dining room for the morning after the wedding. We could get a breakfast from the restaurant, the snack bar or wherever and bring it into the private dining room for a group breakfast. The adjoining parking garage was convenient. We tried to drop off our room keys as we exited the hotel upon checkout, but could not locate the drop-off bin. You need your room key to enter and exit the parking garage.

The property is "dog friendly" -- a real problem for those of use who require cleanliness and don't want to sleep in a bed where Lassie slept with her owner the night before. The property owner prioritizes dogs over people. 2. The internet was pathetic. the owner has configured their authentication system incorrectly and I had t o drop some of the security on my computer to allow access -- something I really To not want to do. The wi-fi never did work but I found a live Ethernet jack in the room that did (thank you for providing ethernet, however.) I was able to connect my router that way. It was also s-l-o-w (see photo.) 3. The hotel charges $22/day for parking in the same garage where the public is only charged $17/day. Cash grab. (see photo) 4. The room was nice. Thanks for that.

But I've heard that since the ownership change, 21C isn't quite the same as far as art goes. I got a basic king room. Bed was comfortable, linens soft and sleek. Had a decent sized TV, a couch, a chair, modern fixtures. The shower was hot and had great pressure. Roomy bathroom. I will agree with some others who say there is a lot of noise outside. A lot of loud trucks with obnoxious mufflers and ambulance sirens. This doesn't bother me, as I've spent the last six years in NYC, but it may drive some crazy. Blackout drapes aren't perfect, but decent. Mine were detached from the track when I arrived, but maintenance fixed it lightening fast. Staff is very professional. Valet is 30 bucks a day, but they are fast and efficient. The cost when I visited in December, right before new years, was about 120 a night (again, valet is 30 on top of that), but room is great and location is right downtown. You can walk to so many great restaurants and bars. Definitely recommend.

I've stayed at a few boutique/privately owned hotels before, and I will say, I've always been concerned about lack of security. I liked the fact that you needed a key card to get to the actual hotel portion of this hotel, which made me feel better about my safety, but will say I didn't see anyone at the desk when I left early in the morning (around 6am) on my departure date. My room was super spacious. I had a corner room that had two separate rooms, one included a sofa and sitting room with a TV, bathroom, and wetbar, which included a microwave and refrigerator, which was a nice touch. I also had a separate bedroom with a large king bed. Why the four stars? Temperature wise, it didn't seem like the thermostat worked well. When I adjusted it, it would go back to the original temp, so it made the room either too cold or too warm at times. The second thing that I docked a star for was I was on the third floor and when I arrived on the third floor, I got a whiff of cigarettes. I never saw anyone on this floor, so I don't know if it was actually someone, or it was embedded in the carpet. The good thing is the smell was NOT in the room, so that was a positive. I wish the bed had been a tad more comfortable, but if you like a firm mattress, they have the bed for you. Beware, this hotel is near a local hospital, so you may need to bring a sound machine to drown out the siren noises.

The rooms are small with the basics but we didn't have consistent A/C, reliable lighting, and no leg room to use the toilet. The floors are difficult to walk and navigate as they're uneven and posed several tripping hazards. It's quite a maze to navigate and the only central area for guests to spend time together outside of their rooms is out front which is nice except for the fact that the smokers also go out front so be prepared for secondhand inhalation. We read online that there was a pool, only to find out upon arriving that the pool has since been removed. That was a bit of a let down, but can't fault them for our misunderstanding. It is located in a convenient spot with access to many local places. I would definitely recommend trying "Pollo Azul" if you're looking for a place to eat while staying here. The venue staff that were bartending for the wedding were highly irritable and inconsiderate. One of the elder bartenders pushed over the beer stand and asked guests to help her clean up.
