Nic's NYC Deli - I requested a blue & white theme to celebrate her summer in Scotland!

Nic's made my daughter a box of beautifully decorated donuts for her birthday that she was able to pick up on her way to class the morning of her birthday. The staff at Nic's were super helpful and even allowed my daughter to pick up the surprise baked goods at 9:15 when they only opened at 10 AM. And she reported that they were delicious! I was able to order, prepay, etc. - super easy! Thanks so much Nic's for making my daughters abroad birthday so special!

YEAH! This is the Nic's I've been dreaming of! ...well, technically the Nic's I've been dreaming of…read morewould be across from/in my house, but this will definitely do for now! I'm a massive fan (see previous review of their St Enoch Square branch) but the only day I can make it to Nic's is a Saturday due to their opening hours and me working relatively far away. So when I heard their new establishment would be open til 11pm, 7 days a week, I was pretty excited to say the least! It's so great that the Nic's concept has really taken off, especially since most new places in Glasgow seem to be massive chain burger joints these days!!! For those who might not be aware, Nic's NYC Deli is just that. They serve glorious pressed sandwiches with delicious flavour combos, hot dogs, taco bowls and pancakes among other tasty offerings - like their amaaaazing doughnuts and American goodies such as Twinkies (which I definitely want to try at some point, just because!) This branch also has the extra addition of crepes (sweet and savoury!) so those who frequented this place as a Crêpe à Croissant can still get their fix. There's always the worry that another branch won't quite have the same feel as the one you're used to, but I'm happy to report that this definitely isn't the case with this one. I absolutely adore the decor, it's really cool without looking like it's trying too hard and the whole place looks fab! As for the food, it is as delicious as ever! The bf opted for a chili dog last night as he hadn't tried their hot dogs at all yet, and he absolutely scarfed it down, totally loved it. I got their LA Club Lite (chicken, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomatoes and either chipotle or dijon mayo) since I hadn't had that one yet and I flipping love avocado and bacon together. It was brilliant, the bacon was done extremely well which I love, and their ciabatta bread is very tasty indeed. We were gonna get some doughnuts to take away, but our server offered us a free one each since they've just opened! Result!! I've got a Snickernut sitting in its wee bag under my desk right now, but since it's lunchtime I have a feeling it might disappear fairly soon... What more can I say? The staff are great, the food is great, the prices are great too - I think all in we paid about £12 for our food and a drink each which, for the quality and size of everything is pretty darn good! It's extremely reassuring to know that if I feel the need for a Nic's I can just pop along and get one...the downside being this might happen far too frequently from now on!!!

Glaswegians, your cafes have definitely spoiled me and I can't find anything that compares to this in the U.S. When you walk in, you automatically get this cozy and warm feeling. Try to get a seat in the upstairs dining area, because this is where you will feel the most warmth. I also like sitting in the bar stools by the window because I like looking outside at the rain. If you find yourself waiting for a table, just take that time to browse the pastries, savory foods laid out, and even their selection of cookbooks. Their selection of cake and tarts change daily, but if they have leftovers one day then they serve the leftovers the next day until they are gone, but a lot of the time their pastries sell out on the first day. Bonus to this is that your pastries are definitely fresh! But the pastries still taste good even if they are a day old. Trust me. My go-to pastries were the Belgian Chocolate Cake or the vanilla custard tarts. This cake has hazelnuts inside of it and is served with raspberries, chocolate bits, dusted with sugar on top. If you love chocolate, this cake is the way to go. The vanilla custard tarts reminded me of home (because I would get Egg Tarts at Chinese bakeries and this vanilla custard tart tasted just like a egg tart) The only difference is that the tart at Kember & Jones had flaky layers of crust, which made the tart even better. My go-to drinks are hot chocolate or the Moroccan Fresh Mint Tea. The hot chocolate is served with foam and little chocolate bits on top. The Mint tea is served in a clear glass, but it comes hot (which was weird because I didn't think you would serve hot drinks in a glass) but I understood why because it has a bunch of mint leaves in it that changes the color of the drink to a light tan. It's cute and if you have a sore throat, it will make you feel better. Other things that I have tried and loved were the Warm Waffle (because it was served with syrup and fresh fruit), the French Lemonade (It was pink lemonade with a little bit of sourness), and the macarons (They make different ones each week. Try all of them because they go fast! I have to say during Christmas time their Christmas pudding one tastes pretty good, too.) Last thing to note is that the staff is very nice. I never really feel pushed to leave. They are polite and attentive.
