Of course I wasn't around in the 1950's, but my grandma's furniture survived well into the 70's and 80's, so I got a good look at the style first hand. Back then, I thought it was so old fashioned and uncool, but as we all know, fashion works in cycles, and this old kitsch stuff is now looking really good! The store sells reproduction (as in new made, not antique) 1950's style furniture, like table, chairs, sofas, and side boards, which is all made in Thailand. Don't let a few of the extraneous retro but definitely 80's props confuse you (chunky mobiles, tapes decks, etc.), this store is definitely focussed on 50's design. However, unlike the 50's, you can customise your sofas and certain other products (with the manufacturers in Thailand) by choosing fabric colours, and wood finishes, so you get that 50's style, but in a way that matches your curtains. Made in Thailand to order, turn around time being around 4-6 weeks, a sofa will set you back around HKD5000+ (of course depending on style). Did I mention that they are all made in Thailand? The designers have done really well in borrowing ideas from the era, and many of the products really do look like the genuine article, just band new. Even if you don't buy anything, it's worth a look at this pseudo museum of new old stuff! The good thing about the furniture being made new, is that they all comply with today's specifications and requirements. This means you get a product that is fire rated and safe for human use, rather than completely flammable, and made of old rusty razor blades and toxic waste. The staff in the store are really nice and helpful. If you want to get an idea of what they sell, or just have a laugh at really bad English, check out their website - you will be told a number of times that the products are made in Thailand.

Not only did she forget her password, she forgot the email account (as her brother set it up for her) and her email's password. Any staff is justified to tell my mom to go ask her son, but the nice lady here really tried her best to help out. Thanks!! They have a recycle program where you can bring used jars in to exchange for a sample size lotion (perfect for handbags).

I have been traveling through this airport for years and I only recently discovered this store on my last trip. So if you need to do a google search for more locations, search under the name "Living Plaza by Aeon". Back in New York, the Daiso chain has finally started to make an appearance on the east coast. Their stores are more concentrated in the west coast with a few in the mid west. The airport location is large for an airport store, with a variety of great products! I tell you this from a standpoint of having been abroad in Japan and having seen some of their Daiso locations myself. I feel the need to give this disclaimer: of course it is more cheaper to go visit Daiso in Japan (everything there will be priced starting at 100 yen). If that is not feasible to you, then visiting this store is more reasonable despite the higher cost. (12HKD = 166 yen approximately). After checking in our bags at Terminal 1, we actually walked back all the way to Terminal 2 with our carry-ons (walk took about 12-15 mins walking quickly) in order to visit this store before boarding our flight. If you time it right on your next trip, you too can have a mini speed shopping spree (save room in your carry-on if you can!). I will call this store a higher end dollar store; a dollar store on steroids if you will. They have travel pillows, typical travel accessories you would really need on your journey, but they also offer a great home section: home decor, home organization, kitchen; laundry section (I picked up a cute laundry bag!), a beauty section and much more. The stationary section is so cute. I couldn't decide which pens to buy so I just walked over to the wall and grabbed a whole bunch! They make great souvenirs too and since they are so unique everybody at work will know this pen only belongs to you and you only! As the other reviewer has commented on, the pricing starts at $12 HKD which is affordable. My laundry bag was on the pricier side of $60HKD but if you compare it to something you would buy at typically Bed Bath and Beyond or Target, then I still think it's better due to quality and price comparison. There is a whole section for toys, dishes/bowls, snacks, hobbies (sewing, gardening, etc) and random tools/gadgets. I had found this baby stroller S hook and a baby stroller blanket clamp to secure the blanket from falling out, something I had been searching for in a few Daiso locations in Japan couldn't locate. I gave these out to my expecting friends as gifts (I don't think it's something you think about or see often in use in the US). If I had more room in my suitcase I would have shopped more. The store wasn't crowded when we stopped by and the cashier was friendly and courteous. I believe they accept Octopus card payment/Cash/Credit Card. Left a hefty balance on your Octopus card? Spend it here! For those of you returning to the East Coast, Daiso currently has two stores open: one in Edgewater, NJ by Mitsuwa Market and another in Skyview Center in Flushing, NY (both stores opened in 2019). The shop is always neatly organized and the employees are polite and speak English. A plastic shopping bag will run you $0.50. I could spend hours here, but alas, there's a flight to catch!

It reminded me of a sort of step down from a J. Crew. Straight up, most of my stuff is purchased online or at a non-mall type shop, so it was actually a bit out of my zone. Nonetheless, we walked out of there with 5 matching shirt that we ended up wearing on the plane a few days later. Bear on bike has worked itself into my rotation, and ultimately we were happy to have ended up at the spot. If you walk by it, it is probably worth going into!

Now I was the nerdy type, not the cool kids who crashed them and built massive jumps, I bought little houses, road signs and everything in between to make it real. Now Tomica was always my favourite- their cars were always better built, had suspension and they had the details that nerds like me would love. Moreover, they also had a series of towns and shops that you could use together with your cars and that way I had my eyes set on collecting every last piece of tomica toy there was out there. This continues to this day. Today I'm not so mad- not after you get into real cars anyways. The thing is you still retain that 4 yr old part of you that yearned for Tomica's new collection every year. The fact is that its difficult to buy these nowadays because a lot of shops just don't sell them. Hung Hing is probably where all the enthusiast go because they have the best and biggest selection I have seen and finally I have spotted my types there: people in their 30s looking for toy cars. However, you may need to remortgage your house to afford them. The store offers general outdoor furnitures and accessories, such as outdoor "sofa" seating, tables and chairs, sun-brellas, awnings, gazebos, storage units, lights, fire torches, you get the idea. All the products are imported from places like Italy and Germany, are the genuine article, and have lengthy warranties. As such, you will pay a premium for them. You could buy a similar item from elsewhere for much cheaper, but these will be the Chinese knock-offs, which carry no warranty, no return policy, and may last anything from 100 months to 100 minutes. Most of the products (certainly the furniture but excluding the accessories) require ordering, as there are usually fabric and other finish options. Turnaround times are a bit longer (due to the import time?) at 6-8 weeks. Also, not everything is on display. In fact, compared to the product range that they actually have on offer, very little is displayed. Ask the staff to see brochures and pictures, which are plentiful and available. If you are feeling flush and are interested in buying, ask for Emily. She is one of the sales supervisors, but is incredibly knowledgable about the products and services. She also knows what is available on display at the other stores, so if you really want to look at something, she will direct you to the right location in HK.
