Time for an updated review. I had my gender reveal party here last month. This is a great place to hold an event and allow them to cater. That's two major things (venue and food) out of the way if you're planning a party or celebration. I believe they can accommodate up to 100 people. The gender reveal turned out great! Everyone loved the food. We had enough space for people to eat, mingle, dance, and just have a good time. I'd definitely hold another event or party here. Also, this is a minority owned business that is conveniently located in Homewood.

The food truck was in the hood so I ordered food for the fam. Hubs and I got salads and the kid got a cheeseburger. You could add chicken to the house salad so that's what I did. The chicken was plentiful and was nice and warm on my salad. I liked that they chopped up the chicken a lot so I didn't need to cut anything. The salad was a spring mix with tomatoes and cheese on it. I really enjoyed my salad. I didn't even need to put dressing on it so that is always a good thing. The kid really liked her cheeseburger. She said she would get it again. The fries probably could have been cooked a little longer. They were a little under done. Overall really good. I would order from here again.

I am truly disappointed with how things went the day of my wedding. During our ceremony, your staff was in the kitchen very loud. We could hear all of the loud talking and cackling as we were giving vows; a family member had to leave during the ceremony to ask your staff to keep it down. This was also caught by our videographer and played back while my husband had a microphone on to capture our vows. During the reception, the chicken breast was cold. When staff were made aware of the issue, someone said they would go back and warm up the chicken; the chicken was still cold. I have personally eaten beef tips from you all at another wedding, and they were so juicy and tender; unfortunately, I did not receive that luxury. In my opinion and that of many guests, they were tough to chew.

    Collard Green Casserole and Mac&cheese.

The food was very good! I got a plate after voting. However, the portions. Omg. The portions for the pricing. Working in culinary I know how much stuff costs, so I was a tad disgruntled that the plate came with very, very few fries for $3 dollars. I think there were maybe 9 or 10 fries. The collard green casserole was $4 and the Mac and Cheese was $3. The temperature of the casserole and Mac could have been much warmer but I still ate it. It honestly took me a minute to find the fries in the box since there were very few. I didn't understand how my $20 worth of food (that I thought was 2 meals worth) was going to be in 1 box. I would love to try it again but will think twice about visiting with the portions and prices very unrealistic.

    1918 Dirty Fries (with chicken)

We enjoyed the food truck when it was parked at Cahaba Brewing. We asked what item the chef was most proud of and they said the dirty fries. We ordered without hesitation. They were so good. The portion was huge, definitely enough for two people. The cheese was so melt and delicious and absolutely smothered in their delicious sauce, yet somehow none of that made the fries soggy? It was magical. Topped with finely chopped peppers and onions and the most delicious smoky chicken. It was literally the best. I'm not sure if they're always at Cahaba or have a specific day, but we were there on a Thursday and I will absolutely be coming back for more dirty fries!!

Shout out to Jason and his AMAZING customer service today at Carrington Lakes! It was our first time trying 1918 Catering and we will now be regulars! We tried their Philly cheesesteaks and the DELICIOUS strawberry lemonade. If you haven't had the pleasure of trying 1918 Catering, you need to give them a try.

Their varied specialties pizzas were available in both styles. Since it was our first time, we wanted to try a variety, so we chose the two slice and a drink special for lunch. I grabbed a New York cheese slice and a Detroit pepperoni. My wife chose a Figgie and a Margherita New York Slice. Nice thin and crispy New York crust, great undercarriage! Detroit was light and thick with excellent frico edge. Sauce was slightly sweet with nice flavor. Cheese was melted nicely with slight caramelization. The Figgie had fig jam, prosciutto, goat cheese, arugula and a balsamic drizzle! It was out of this world! I use figs and prosciutto on my pizza at home but never seen in at a restaurant. Highly recommend! Staff was attentive and answered questions about their Detroit style hydration. Apparently all dough is made daily in house each morning. Restaurant was large, but they had several areas blocked off. Only two available tables for dine in. Not sure if they had an event later that day or not. Daily specials are listed on the menu and all you can eat buffet is on Thursdays. Would highly recommend! Will definitely be back!!

So we ordered a supreme pizza and we're recommended the deep dish cheesbread. We found out the buffet was discontinued as well so we were a little sad about that. They were extremely kind the entire time and explained it all to us. We waited about 15 minutes and it was absolutely delicious to eat! I loved the supreme pizza and the cheesebread was fantastic. The ambiance of the place was nice and had chill music going in the background. They also have food trucks out hear Hop City as well and we were recommended to try that sometime too! We loved it and will come back again. If you are in town, this place and must try!

At first glance, it looked more like a mix of an art studio and a meeting house. On one side of the main room is the dining area complete with eclectic furniture. On the other side is a long counter table cluttered (intentionally) with paper artwork, paint bottles, boxes, a wall section of workshop tools that includes a power drill, among many other things. Surrounding the dining area are smaller tables filled with trinkets for sale akin to a souvenir shop. Food was already prepared buffet style when we arrived. The owner AC Reeves welcomed us as we took our seats. While I do not care for the cuisine, it was reasonably good and filling. I enjoyed the chicken nuggets and the dish (which I'm somewhat sure contained fish) that had bell peppers and onions. (Sadly, the dishes were not labeled so I'm going by my not-so-reliable memory.) Beverage was provided at the counter near the doorway leading to the restrooms, and manned by a waiting staff. Service was stellar. In addition to at least two helpings of food, I had a can of Coke and a bottled water. In contrast to the appearance of mess and antiquity of the dining area, the bathrooms are pristine. (Okay, the men's; I did not verify if the women's is similar.) But stalls are limited to one standing urinal and one toilet seat. I had to wait at least 5 minutes for my near 80-year-old roommate to finish his business before using the latter. Very rare does a restaurant stays true to its principles through thick and thin. In 5 & Dime, the cuisine is a means to an end, that end being social capital. As AC points out on the chalkboard, it is the sharing of experience and social fellowship (via food) in an environment of mutual respect that is the "product". I had a brief one-on-one chat with AC. She mentioned being in the Tar Heel State; I mentioned that my son will be majoring in fine arts this fall. While 5 & Dime isn't my kind of place, it succeeds in its stated objective. For those that are into this kind of dining experience, this place is for you.
