Coffee Neuk to the left was the first coffee shop I saw and which stood out from all the other coffee shops around the market place. My first thought was that the prices are high and the food about average, because of the closeness to such a famous attraction. My expectations were "luckily" not fulfilled :-) When I entered, there was nobody at the counter and a couple was sitting near the window in the adjoining tea room. The place seemed deserted, but "oh mei" was I wrong, Within minutes the tea room filled up with people enjoying an afternoon chat with friends or tourists just getting in from the castle visit, like me. I had to order at the counter and was informed that the scones were sold old. Next choice was a piece of carrot cake and a mug of Hot Chocolate, which by the way was a Cadbury Hot Chocolate (just to point it out, as they appear to be very proud of the Cadbury logo). I took seat at a small table (1-2 people max, but really cute) and attempted my first bite of the carrot cake. What can I say? It was not dry, no, it was soft and juicy with a layer of cream cheese topping. The menu choices are limited, but what you get has substance. The staff is very nice, the prices very accommodating ( a lasagna for abt £4 ?!?) and the place very clean. I went to the toilet and when coming back my table was cleaned and no trace of me remained. Ah well, and so I continued forth on my journey back home.........

It's a lot cheaper than some of the other cafes such Ebulum (previously reviewed). But this is really where its charm lies. The staff here are really friendly, though for a Linlithgow cafe that doesn't seem unusual. It is a tad small, but they make the most of the space. Unfortunately at lunch though this place gets pretty popular. Expect the usual sorts of hot drinks, as well as some snacks ideal for lunch. I had the soup of the day which cost me £2.40. That's pretty good, or at least average, for Edinburgh prices. But the portions were bigger than normal and it was served with decent bread. I like to think we Scots are proud of our soup but you'd be surprised how many times I'm disappointed by the poor quality soup served around Edinburgh! Coffee Neuk didn't disappoint though.

My son got the strawberry ice cream, which was fine and came in a small tub with the little plastic spoon under the lid. My daughter got a chocolate muffin, which was good, but nothing to write home about. My wife and I got two cheesecakes that were actually very good. The strawberry cheesecake was surprisingly light and good. I guess I might have guessed given the name of the cafe. The denser cheesecake, which had stars and small colored chocolate balls on top, we got was also good, but maybe a bit much.

I have been to Tea Jenny's twice, once to their main cafe and once to the sister cafe Wee Jenny's…read morenext door. On both occasions I have been totally overwhelmed by the incredible cakes and by just how lovely everything is. Last time I was there I got a dirty chai latte - apparently it has both tea and coffee in it, it sounds weird, but it's good and it comes with glitter on top. In the past I've chosen from their tea menu which is extensive and full of interesting flavours. I also chose the soup of the day which came with some lovely crusty bread. Then, having done my duty and eaten some real food, I wandered downstairs to take in the cake selection. I opted for a slice of the white chocolate and pistachio cake, a four-tierd monster of confectionary. It was delicious but very sweet and I'm afraid I couldn't manage it all - fortunately the folk at Tea Jenny's were very happy to package it up for me and the remainder made a lovely treat later that day. I don't think I could go here too often, but I definitely recommend a visit for a special occasion or a treat. It's not quite like any other cafe I've visited.

We had to wait a little but this may have felt worse thanks to not having breakfast, but considering how many people were there, it wasn't too bad. The chai was nice, it had glittery, simmering sprinkles on top which fascinated me for a while. It wasn't The Best chai ever, but yummy none the less. The Panini again was nice, a little on the plain side, and I would have liked to have been offered side alternatives, however the salad Looked lovely :) The cakes however...my goodness I am going back to sample their cakes. The have a victoria sponge and cheesecake daily, then three different scrumptious looking cakes each day. Rainbow cake, Malteser cake and some sort of caramel twix looking cake mmmm! If you find yourself in Falkirk it's a lovely little independent cafe which you really should try.

As well as serving good coffee and really good cake, they have juices, smoothies, milkshakes, teas, beer, wine, spirits, sandwiches, nachos, etc etc etc. They seem to pride themselves in the skills they have in making great coffee and they work hard to make their menu customisable - not just offering soya milk and flavour syrups, but also giving you the option to try aeropress coffee, for example. The cafe itself is a decent size, with more seating available upstairs. There are big windows letting in plenty of natural light and it's a comfy place to sit and relax or to socialise. They have free WiFi too, although when I visited I got the impression that it would usually be too busy to get much work done here. All in all, a lovely cafe and one well worth visiting if you're in Falkirk.

They also sell a range of meats and cheeses that I haven't seen anywhere else in West Lothian and there's also a lovely range of hand painted pottery on display. The tangy chili sauce compliments the uniquely crumbly texture of the haggis well. Such a warm comforting sandwich. Overall Service: Incredible staff.
