I greatly enjoyed working with Larkin and highly recommend using his services! Over the course of 8 months studying with him, my diagnostic scores went from the mid 150s to the mid 170s. My performance on the September LSAT was 15 points higher than my initial diagnostic. I'm pretty impressed with this improvement, as I honestly was not studying very much outside of our sessions (not that I would recommend that, it's just what I did!). Larkin's teaching methods are holistic, and they focus on increasing your critical thinking skills rather than just rote memorization. I can't recommend Larkin enough. Larkin has a very individualized way of working with a person. He gets to know your brain, your personality and helps you think about the test holistically. Yes, he knows the test inside and out and is great at teaching the concepts; but he also takes into account who you are as a person and how you should think about the test. Through our time together, we uncovered how I personally approached the test and how my brain works. Larkin learned my natural approaches and worked with them, versus slamming me with rote instruction until I fit a standardized mold. What you do need to bring to the relationship is an ability to trust his process and be honest about where you're at. For example, at one point in our work together I just totally hit a wall - I was exhausted and my studying results were starting to slip. It was embarrassing to admit that I wasn't feeling great, that my scores were getting worse. But I'm so glad I did. Larkin was incredibly empathetic. We discussed a game plan together and soon I was back on track. Let's get down to what we're all obsessed with: the score. Larkin helped me radically increase mine. I went to Larkin at the very beginning of my studying journey and we were able to improve my score by over 20 points. From a score standpoint, I went from decent school to top schools and I'm really grateful for how we worked together to get that score up there. I worked with Larkin for roughly 7 months, during which my score improved 6 points from my previous score one year before. I did not reach the goal score I wanted, but what I had was enough to get into a T14, as context. I'm grateful for the individualized attention he gave during our sessions of tutoring. He is very good at teaching not in a mechanical way, but to encourage true understanding. And he knows the material very well. This was very helpful to me early on when I had very weak foundation in LSAT logic, as I was pushed to see questions not as mere pattern-spotting game but something more coherent, something that "makes sense." This also greatly enhanced my confidence going into the test room, as I was intimidated by this test before I started classless with him. I saw some other reviews mentioned how they were concerned with the lack of weekly plan in the sessions and Larkin being reactive instead of proactive. This is true, with pros and cons. Usually I had enough questions to ask that two hours didn't feel like enough, and other times I wasn't sure if the Q&A nature of our sessions was the most helpful. I decided to trust my own planning and use Larkin as a source of reliable and accurate information when I encounter difficulties in my studying. This can be a productive way or maybe not, which really depends on the individual and his/her studying habits. My own example might not be enough. I'm very grateful for his help on learning LSAT and his advice on reducing anxiety for test-taking, which is why I take the effort to write this review. I think the type of student who will benefit the most from his class would be someone who wants to build a good foundation in LSAT logic, is strong in planning his/her own study pace and isn't concerned with the price. Larkin is not only skilled at taking the LSAT himself, but is an incredibly skilled teacher. He understands how to build students' skill sets from where they are starting out. Additionally Larkin is experienced and adept at working with students on reducing test taking anxiety. Larkin was quickly able to discern where my skills were at when I first began meeting with him. We then built on those skills each week. I enjoyed studying with Larkin because I never felt that I was being lectured. The sessions were consistently hands-on. I would work on LSAT questions and Larkin would allow me time to think about each one and figure it out on my own. He would allow me to struggle rather than giving up on me and revealing the answer. This method truly pushed me to unlock my full potential and build skill. After I would complete a question, Larkin would often provide guidance for how best to tackle similar questions in the future. This helped me see patterns across questions that may not have been apparent initially. Larkin and I would often spend time during our sessions discussing my test taking anxiety and how best to deal with it. My LSAT diagnostic score was a 149 before I met with Larkin. Since then it has risen to the 160's and I hope to soon have it in the 170's. In my personal opinion, if you put in the work and do what he says and Larkin will get you the results you want. Next fall I'm applying to Duke Law and a couple other T14 schools and I wouldn't have a chance of acceptance if it wasn't for Larkin. One of the first lessons he taught me is that the LSAT isn't an intelligence test, it is a skills test. And Larkin is skilled beyond belief. He knows exactly what to look for to find a solution with each problem and he makes sure his students can do the same. There have been some problems where we spend about 10-20 minutes going over it just so he can make sure that I understand every aspect of the question and have learned a lesson that I can apply to future questions. Picking an LSAT tutor is significant investment of time and money and is a decision you should make only after careful consideration. To any people seeking help in preparing for the LSAT exam I highly recommend utilizing Larkin Robson and 180 Degrees LSAT. Firstly, and most importantly, Larkin knows his stuff and it shows. Unlike many other LSAT resources I had considered or used before hiring Larkin, at no point in my time of working with him did I feel like he was relying on rote memorization or gimmicks to help me perform better. Rather, Larkin helped to reveal the logical reasoning processes behind the test and assist in developing my ability to efficiently tackle questions. Beyond this, he is also helpful in offering strategic and tactical advice about the process of sitting for the LSAT outside of just the contents of the test itself. This can range from the minutiae of the environment in which you take the test, all the way up to larger considerations such as what test session in the year is ideal for meeting your goals. Secondly, Larkin is easy to work with. He has a great sense of humor, is relaxed, and despite his mastery of the material, never made me feel inferior. Larkin is very accessible outside of sessions as well, for logistics and scheduling. Finally, as a consumer/client I appreciated that Larkin never pressured me to continue with his services (though I did continue because I wanted to!). I jumped 14 points from my initial diagnostic to the actual test. I know I wouldn't have been able to do it (and wouldn't have gotten into the T-14) without Larkin's guidance, support, and counseling. If you're skeptical about the cost, I'd absolutely recommend that you give it a shot. Even 2-3 points on the LSAT can be the difference between $50,000-60,000 in aid, and I truly believe that Larkin can help anyone jump a lot more than 2-3 points. My initial diagnostic was a 154 and like many others, I decided to enroll in a class offered by one of the big LSAT test companies (Powerscore). Going through the class and the bibles improved my score by a few points, particularly in logic games--but when I started taking the newer practice tests, I saw my advances stalled. The LSAC is a smart company, and they know how many students have started to use Manhattan, Powerscore, and the various other self-study materials in recent years. The LSAC has responded by throwing in weirder logic games and logical reasoning questions that don't easily conform to the formula memorization that Powerscore/Manhattan rely on. Having mostly taken older tests, I went into the June 2018 LSAT hoping that I'd score in the high 160s--I got my score back and had only scored a 158. The self-study materials and class clearly hadn't helped me as much as I hoped, so I reached out to Larkin and set up some appointments. Larkin's method is socratic--he has you walk through your thought process on every question and pushes you to understand the test holistically. There is no brute memorization of different question types, rather there is a focus on understanding what the question is asking you, what the flaw(s) is/are, and how to respond flexibly to any problem. With Larkin's guidance my logic game sections went from being packed with diagrams and writing (and short on time), to sparsely diagrammed, far more accurate, and finished a lot earlier. My logical reasoning sections also improved substantially. As weird as this sounds, perhaps just as important as Larkin's help in learning the LSAT was his emotional and counseling support. The LSAT is a hard test and it puts a lot of weight on anyone applying to law schools. Being in a good mental state and feeling confident about the test is every bit as important as knowing how to answer the questions. Larkin made me far more confident in the test. Through Larkin's methods I was able to hit an average in practice tests in the low 170s, and a high of 176. My September 2018 LSAT was a 168, and I think I might take it again to try and hit the 170s. The 168 that Larkin made possible allowed me to get into Duke in November. The best LSAT tutor out there! I cannot recommend Larkin enough to anyone preparing for the LSAT. When I first met with Larkin I was enrolled in a Kaplan LSAT course, but I wasn't seeing the improvement I wanted. I found the class to be slow and too focused on tricks to handle every different question type, rather than really learning how to take the test and build the right skillset. I was referred to Larkin and told he was "the best LSAT tutor in the country." At first I was skeptical, but I gave him a call. Don't be scared off by his frankness when you first speak, he truly is the best LSAT tutor and I would recommend him to anyone looking to improve their score. Larkin's approach to the test is very different from Kaplan and other test prep courses (as far as I understand them). He focuses on skill building and critical thinking rather than tricks and ways to beat the test. Tutoring sessions are tailored to your needs and the areas you feel you need to work on, which really helps to build confidence as well as a strong skill set. Larkin really helped me understand the best approach to each section which led to great improvement in my score--I eventually scored 11 points higher than my original diagnostic test. I am thrilled to report that after working with Larkin I have improved my LSAT score to a 154! I can not recommend Larkin highly enough. His calm and reassuring teaching style helped me think clearly even in my most panicked moments. I am a person who always strives to be perfect and tend give up if I don't feel like I can do something to the level I want to. For me the logical reasoning section presented a particular problem, I found that I was so frantic about getting through it that my accuracy was extremely low. The strategies that 180 Degrees LSAT helped me master allowed me to see huge improvements in that area. I always found Larkin highly professional, but also accessible. Although I knew that the concepts we were working on might seem easy to him, he never made me feel slow or anxious. Which is saying a lot - I am a person who tends to panic if I think I am making someone wait on me or if I think I should be getting something faster than I am. I really appreciated that he always gave me time to think through my answers, but offered support when he could see that it wasn't quite clicking. Larkin was always able to strike the right balance of allowing me to "do it myself" but jumping in with support and never letting me feel like I was drawing. When I came to him I had essentially been told I wasn't smart enough for LG, Larkin helped me consistently get -0 in that category. After scoring a 145 on my first diag a year and a half casually studying and a class and I was still not seeing the scores I needed. I was one of the lucky recipients of Larkin's 180 Degrees LSAT 2 hour scholarship. I spent thousands of dollars on Princeton Review and prep materials (not to mention thousands of hours of wasted time.) that were not giving me specific directions on how to get the correct answer on the three sections of the LSAT. The development of the skillls that the LSAT is testing you on is the key to your success on this test. He understands the test better than those at the test prep companies. He was very understanding and patient with me as I had to unlearn all the junk that I was previously taught about how to take the LSAT. He also understood my fustration with the test given my facial expessions. He showed me how to approach each section and gave specific directions on getting to the right answer using a method that I could understand and work with. Having someone who can teach you how to get to the right answer and the process that it takes is better than being in a room with a group of people learning at a faster test than you. The LSAT is like math it takes practice and clear specific instructions that must be followed consistently in order to get the right answer and increase accuracy. Do not believe the hype about speed on the test its about accuracy as you get comfortable you will get faster on your own. I never knew this until I spoke to and worked with Larkin. Larkin is great. I wasted my time doing Blueprint, ending my lsat score with a 155. Which was my diagnostic. I went back to Larkin and raised my score to a 166. I'm really happy with my progress. He is extremely encouraging and was able to pinpoint all my weaknesses and explain the lsat in a way that made sense. If you're concerned about the cost - that will be offset by potential scholarships, which make the cost irrelevant in the long run. Larkin is an amazing tutor! You'll find many tutors who understand the test perfectly and can ace it on their own, but very few are able to teach the test in a way that makes the dreaded LSAT seem approachable. I came to Larkin having had a horrendous experience with a Princeton Review tutor. My weakest section by far was Logic Games. I could not finish all four games in 35 minutes, even after months of studying. Within two sessions with Larkin, I was finishing Logic Games with ease. It became my best section, and I even enjoyed doing them! Larkin taught me to understand how the games worked and to rely on my own problem solving abilities instead of memorizing rules and patterns that had been slowing me down. I found Larkin's number online while looking for a tutor in New York City. During our initial phone consultation Larkin asked me if I had taken a diagnostic. Fortunately I had, so we both knew what we were working with. I told him the schools I was interested in and where I wanted my score to be by the time I would take the test. We met in his Brooklyn office a week after our phone call. He was able to adapt his schedule pretty smoothly to mine, which was really helpful. After my first two-hour class, we figured out what I needed to work on. He showed me basic techniques of setting up games or parallel questions in the Logic Game section. I now live by those techniques! Thanks to them my score increased by 25 points in a year (It took me a little while because English is not my first language.) Because the LSAT is all about pattern recognition, Larkin will not feed you any answer when you struggle. Instead, he will ask you questions that will lead you in the right directions and before you even realize it you will understand the question you are working on. Ultimately those questions will become a little voice in your head that helps you during the exam. I highly recommend Larkin. I came to Larkin many months into self-studying, after taking the test and hitting a wall. I had less than a month to study for the next test, and I was exhausted, frustrated, and very anxious. He reframed the way I thought about the test, so that when I studied I was leaning into my intuitive strengths rather than memorizing a list of question strategies. It increased my confidence in my skills, which decreased my test anxiety. I only did two sessions, the second of which served more as a therapy session than instruction. I got a 177. He listens, diagnoses your thinking, and forces you to expand rather than box in your skill. Larkin was an excellent tutor who helped me improve significantly. He was really good at helping me figure out how to approach the sections and how to take a flexible approach to what felt like a daunting test. I tried 7sage and practicing a bit on my own, but working with Larkin was much more helpful and offered a personalized approach. A little background: I took a diagnostic LSAT before doing any prep, and I landed a few points away from where I wanted to be. I thought, okay, this is easy - just need a little more practice and I'll get there. Wrong. Over the next two and a half months, I studied nonstop with various books (Powerscore, LSAT Trainer), and somehow still managed to stay +/- 1 point of my original score. I called Larkin after becoming very frustrated with my complete lack of progress, and I immediately felt like he just "got it." After literally one session with Larkin, my practice test scores jumped 8-11 points. My skills didn't miraculously improve in one session, but Larkin figured out what was wrong with the way I was approaching the test from a more psychological standpoint. I have to agree with Dave T. Larkin, the owner at 180, is a true teacher, a pedagogue. Though I have yet to sit for my LSAT this June and having studied with a different tutor for several months prior to Larkin, the difference between the two in terms of their approach, clarity, understanding of varying learning styles, breadth and depth of knowledge around all things LSAT and law schools is marked. Larkin has an uncanny ability to spot your weaknesses and then customizes the tools necessary to tackle them in a manner that matches your learning style. He is acutely aware of what the LSAT means to me and treats our sessions and my progress accordingly. More importantly, he sets sensible, realistic goals on the basis of your individual situation. This pragmatism is enormously helpful in keeping things in perspective. I have a particular goal for myself, while Larkin applauds it, I think he's more cautious. And that's good. I need my professionals to be straight up with me. While the bottom line is the LSAT score, I already know that my money is being well-spent at 180. If you are serious about dramatically improving your LSAT score, I highly recommend working with Larkin. First of all, he knows the test very well - it's clear why he got a 180. It's tough at times to understand why an answer is correct and Larkin will spend as much time as needed walking through it, making it as relatable as possible. He knows that this test is skill-based and even though the given question will not be duplicated, the strategy behind answering the question almost certainly will. Working with Larkin is also just a great experience. It's a tough test, requiring tremendous focus, but he puts you at ease. He is very personable and an excellent teacher.
