First and foremost, Josh (the center director) is simply terrific with all the kids AND their parents. He is attentive and caring. He hires excellent staff and makes sure that they care about education as much as he does. The teachers are, likewise, first-class. Due to the fact that the classes are small, each kid gets plenty of individual attention. This makes them feel challenged and excited to go to school. Each day they learn a new concept that gets reinforced through art projects, trips, and lessons. Ayla was three when she came home with a picture of cloud as well as a story about how "condensation works and rain happens." I couldn't believe that she could even pronounce "condensation" much less understand the process behind it - but somehow she did. When, very unfortunately, we learned that we had to leave Brooklyn, Josh was again instrumental in helping Ayla get placed in a different pre-school. So if you are looking for a pre-school in Williamsburg for your 2 or 3 year old, where you want them to feel challenged, excited and motivated, look no further. This is the right place. Ayla loved it. I loved it for her. And would recommend the program to anyone who values education with absolutely no hesitation.

Less than a week later my family and I had to leave the USA due to personal circumstances caused by COVID-19. We permanently left the neighborhood where we were residing and departed to another continent. Roughly one month after making the deposit payment and more than 5 months before the school year started I requested a refund of my son's 2020/2021 school year deposit. After various email exchanges with the school owner, I requested a personal phone call. The call was avoided and the situation was addressed by the school's lawyer. To my surprise, given the global hardship felt by families around the world the school stated that the deposit will not be refunded. In fact, their legal team stated that the only compensation I will receive is the transaction costs charged when they received the deposit payment - how absurd. Like most families, we have a set amount of finances allocated for our son's education per year. Due to this unfortunate loss and lack of sympathy from the school, we will not be able to enroll our child in any school for the 2020/2021 school. I have committed to the full annual payment of our child's 2019/2020 school fees and understand that the school needs these funds to pay employees and running costs. However, it is incomprehensible that the school is reluctant to refund even a small portion of the deposit paid. This is deeply disappointing and I truly hope our child is the only one who will be affected by the school's actions.

Our son has always been a bright kid with a very good memory for numbers. Since one of his favorite…read moresubjects in middle school is math, my wife and I are pretty much clueless in helping him with problems. As soon as we became aware that our son has exceeded our knowledge of math (among other subjects as well), it was time to seek outside help. With the SHSAT exams coming up, we want to make sure he's well prepared because he wanted to attend Bronx Science High School next fall. From a friend's recommendation, we've decided to enroll him to the Mini Ivy test prep school. Mini Ivy's main goal is to prepare students to excel in taking the SHSAT exams. To enroll, each student will take Mini Ivy's version of the SHSAT exam to determine where help is needed the most. Based on the results (which do not lie), they will give an accessment of each student. The fees the school charges are determined by the test results. If the student scores high in their placement exam, then the fees will be at a minimum (b/c less help needed). Conversely, if the student requires more instructions, then the fees will be higher. I consider this a fair payment plan for the paying parents. My son was enrolled in their intensive Sunday sessions last year (Summer, 2013) to prepare for the SHSAT exam to enter high school in the Fall, 2014 school year. The instructors are very knowledgeable and prepared my son to take the SHSAT exam with confidence. Overall, my son enjoyed going to Mini Ivy (despite giving up most of his Sundays), learned a lot of math and made new friends (who he'll probably see again in high school). I know it doesn't seem fair, but I wouldn't be giving Mini Ivy five stars if my son didn't get accepted to Bronx Science (his first and only specialized high school choice). But Mini Ivy took the challenge and helped him succeed. That said, I would recommend Mini Ivy to family and friends who are looking for a specialized high school prep school.
