I started using Larkin around 2.5 months before my first LSAT, and I truly cannot say enough about how masterful his teaching is. Starting from a diagnostic of 157, I knew that getting to my target score of 170+ would be challenging in such a short time span. When I started working with Larkin, I expressed my goals to him, and although he kept me realistic and said it would be challenging in the given time, he provided me with all the tools to get to where I wanted to be.
I started with a pretty good diagnostic score for logic games at around 17/18 correct, but the rate at which I improved under Larkin was truly incredible. I got to perfect logic games around three weeks into working with him, and I credit that to the way Larkin looks at the test in general. As opposed to the way that certain prep companies seem to look at LG (formulaically, and with specific diagramming), Larkin helped me take a more conceptual approach that was catered perfectly to me.
With reading comp being my worst section, I knew the battle was going to be uphill. I have read all over the internet that it is the hardest section to improve on, and some may never get consistently better at it. However, under Larkin, I went from a diagnostic score of -13/-14 on RC to scoring between -2 and -4 on this section. He helped me take a step back and led me to look at RC in a more structural manner, which helped me avoid trap answer choices, and helped me to always get the easy ones right.
All this being said, Larkin's bread and butter is with Logical Reasoning. The way he teaches this section is simply described as special. When I started on LR, the questions all seemed to glob together, and I was just going through the motions and picking the choice that "felt" right. Larking taught me to identify the conclusion, evidence, and weakness in every single argument. Now, that process is automatic for me, and I score regularly between -2 and -3 on LR, improving by roughly 10 questions. I cannot stress enough, I would not have improved the way I did, in the time frame that I did, without Larkin's methods. He doesn't focus on the gimmicks and "easy way out" tricks in LR, he focuses on YOU. Your understanding of the section will improved drastically, and rapidly, using Larkins techniques.
When people ask me how my tutor is going, I say it is going great, but I have to bite my lip to not correct them. I do not consider Larkin to be just a tutor. Calling him a tutor is almost doing him an injustice. Larkin is a mentor and a coach, along with having an unreal sense of the LSAT. Whenever I was mentally out of it, a session with Larkin would put me right back into the state of mind I needed to be in in order to conquer this test. He increases my confidence and identifies my problems with ease. Some of my favorite sessions with Larkin would be one's that we just spoke about life for the first 30 minutes. I just took my first LSAT and going into it was scoring a 172-173 on my practice tests. Although I don't have my score back yet, I leave the test confident and knowing I left it all out there, mainly because I used Larkin's ways and completely bought into his system. read more
