This review is long overdue. I probably ate at Jahangir at least weekly when I lived in St…read more Andrews. In addition to having a delicious menu and a very skilled kitchen, the staff are so wonderful and friendly. We have rolled in at ridiculous hours when they were about to close and they've still seated us.
At this point, I've had most of the menu. I particularly like the lamb curry on the bone (the house special), the vindaloo and the Achari tikka with Peshawari naan (which the staff recommended and now I get it all the time). I also like all the veggie sides and usually get one with my dinner. On visits where we have been indecisive, the chef, Walid, has just made what he has felt like making and it has always been delicious. Ask the staff for recommendations - they take their menu seriously and will work hard to make sure you get a meal you like.
They've got a surprisingly good wine list. I particularly like the NZ pinot noir. Pairs very well. Also, great mango lassis.
Decor may be a bit cheesy, but it's a situation where you just go with it. And the little fish pond is cute and fun.
In all, worth a visit on any trip to St. Andrews. Definitely the best South Asian restaurant in town and one of the best all-around dinners. Since moving to London, I haven't found a place that is quite the same, and London is a good town for South Asian food.
