Don't bother. I brought my partner and friends to 1181 and ordered drinks. The bartender under-poured the vodka in a measured ounce. Unfortunately, it left a pretty poor impression. I'd skip this place. read more

Quite possibly the coolest bar on Davie! Incredibly HOT bartenders, all are friendly. Each night has a theme with incredible DJs. In the week they have incredible drag performances then turn the space into a dance club. Def a must return to! read more

This was a neat place in Canada, but it's pretty small and only one bartender working. Not many options to hang out. Not bad if you're drunk and want a drink, but not really a place to just chill. read more

I have been going to 1181 on Wednesday nights for a few months. I like the music the DJ plays. The staff are friendly, courteous and sexy. I arrived on January 4th approximately 01:55. I understood one of the 2 bar owners was bartending. Approximately, 02:20 I see him closing bar, dj is turning off music. I was only half way through my beer. I I approached him. I mentioned that I come here to hear that DJ. it is only 02:20. His reply was "I should have come earlier". The bar is opened until 03:00. I was PISSED WITH THE Way he treats his customer. I feel that owner is an unprofessional idiot!!! Plus, I feel the dj should have approached me about what was going to happen. A shitshow!!! read more

Nice bar although same decor since opening many many years ago. Had drinks on Pride--bartender had more misplaced attitude than skill or memory. Too bad as this place could-be a step above the others but .... read more

Always the best DJ s They catch and make the vibe of the room. Yes yes the bartenders ( & dudes at the door) are hot very hot but that would run short for me if they weren't so friendly and provide great service. A great selection of top shelf booze and the mixed cocktails never disappoint. Not sure I would bother going out in Vancouver if I could not start or finish my night at 1181. I understand the frustrations of some of the reviewers about a line up and a bar that still has room. I understand this is a Vancouver capacity bylaw. Why wouldn't they want more patrons!!!!! read more

1181 - Meeting the grand kids at 1181 - Gay Bars Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

I think the key to surviving 1181 is to either get there early after work on a friday and have a few cocktails before going out, or to show up whenever and catch the wicked entertainment in the back of the bar. No people I am not talking about "that" kind of entertainment but rather they have a projection TV showing some of the best classic TV and movies around. On one particular occasion I was reacquainted with Linda Carter in that TV show.. you know the one.. transparent plane... red shorts... bullet blocking bracelets.... WONDER WOMAN! The design of the lounge is clean and sophisticated, I appreciate the cork wall and the understated tones of the bar, it's definitely clean and cool. oh and P.S. they have no cover charge and everyone is welcome! read more

1181 - a man standing outside a restaurant - Gay Bars Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

This place was fine but it was not as happening as the crowd down at the Fountainhead. Their drink menu did not reflect their stock, and I couldn't even get through my glass of wine (which is unusual for me...). Maybe it picks up later in the night? read more

The staff seem lovely but the service needs some work. There could be improvements in how people are greeted and the newly-developed table service. A place like this should feel welcoming, but in the last two years of my visits, they sadly have not been. Im aware the COVID-19 pandemic has made it very hard for the service industry, but it shouldn't compromise the possibility of welcoming and effectively serving its patrons. read more

We were visiting from Denver and came to 1181 two times. Neither time was a good experience. Our first visit was on a Thursday night. The bar was empty and drinks were about $12 each. Our second visit was on Friday night. We expected big things since they made us wait in a line outside the club for over 15 mins. They told us they were at capacity and we needed to wait until patrons left before we could get in. We waited, and waited. When they finally let us in, the club/bar was EMPTY!!! Get real. Don't put on a front and act like your place in jamming when no one is in there. I would not recommend 1181. read more

To quote a friend...."I wish I could hold my gut in long enough to finish my drink" Somewhat snobbish bartenders, in a trendy lounge atmosphere.... read more

Clean, posh, and corked out walls, 1181 may look like it was transplanted from Yaletown, but the vibe and the people are 100% West End! A big screen for Olympic action is what brought me in this last time. Comfy couches, drink specials (Wednesday was $5 coronas, $4 Jagers and Absolute vodkas), and the chex mix kept me there. The couches are the perfect way to meet your neighbours, I'm certain it's a prime place for a pickup. My theory was reinforced in the bathroom: 2 unisex stalls and one large one just for men with a communal sink (beautiful, by the way). Bathroom accessory? A help yourself condom dispenser; looks like it could come in handy later on in the evening for sure! read more

Hip, fun and chill. 1181 is my favorite lounge in the Village. The atmosphere is relaxed and the customers are just as chill. I have made some great connections here, just sitting near the window chatting with strangers. If you make your way to the back you can enjoy a tighter squeeze and listen to the bumpin' DJ. A great place to come and relax and meet some new fresh faces. 5 Stars hands down! read more

OK let's call it. This is Davie's stand and model bar. No big deal. Expensive drinks, decor with modern finishes, intimidatingly hot bar tenders in tanks, chiseled and handsome gay clientele (mainly gym bunnies, muscle pups and twinks with a scattered handful of "wandering" older gents and women, drinking it all in, I guess). Definitely had a pretentious vibe. The place is small - it's basically a narrow rectangle with a little front seating area, then a long bar going down the length of the place, with little place to move around when it gets packed, and a back seating area with a screen on the back wall sometimes showing movies or whatever. Several of the reviews here are from women, which - I don't know, says something about the place. By the way, if you're a woman going to a gay bar in the gayborhood and are surprised to find a "sausage fest," I'd suggest reminding yourself that gay bars are where gay guys go. So - go to go, go to show off and be pretty, go to meet your friends for a drink before hitting up the other clubs, or go if you're looking to find a hot gay guy to, well, look at from a few feet away, but nothing more. I do think that this is Vancouver's equivalent to Seattle's Purr, Atlanta's Blake's, etc - and I think the space and decor is much nicer than either of latter mentioned establishments. I do want their interior decorator's contact info. I'd probably go here frequently and like it more if I actually lived in Vancouver. But as you can tell, I think I'm so into this place that I'm over it. And, I'm sure, so are all the other guys that go here too. read more

As far a gay bars go this mofo gets 5 stars, why because its clean, hip and has zero attitude. The music is great, the boys behind the counter are easy on the eyes, the booze is good and priced accordingly to most other bars in Vancouver. The interior is relaxed, movies are projected on the back wall (from old SciFi to Kill Bill), nice comfortable seating, and a great set-up for the space. We were able to sit comfortably along the wall and look out onto the street. The exterior is simple and easily missed if you're not paying attention. If you're a young hot-rod be prepared to be checked out from wandering elder gay men, they seem to come and go. That's not even a minus because you can always fake interest and get a free drink. Seriously NO ATTITUDE it was great. read more

Pretty disappointing venue! For $10 Canadian, you will get a very low alcohol cocktail (just over 1 shot of liquor)...that's more than Manhattan prices for drinks with normal quantities of alcohol. The French cuff ($9.50) is tasty but weak. I have to recommending absolutely avoiding the Yellow Cab ($10.50)! This drink is made with Navan, a vanilla cognac, but really tasted like a very artificial vanilla. None of us could finish it. We later compared it to the smell of our hotel shampoo. The interior decor was nice and plush and the bartender was fine. The music got louder and louder and louder which was not at all appropriate for the setting or lack of a dancefloor. Maybe I should just not bother drinking in Vancouver. read more

I'll keep this simple: 1. Not a lot of space 2. Show up before 9pm 3. Drinks are delicious - GET THE FRENCH CUFF 4. Majority of the crowd are males between 25 - 35. 5. Good music 6. Too loud for conversation .. GET THE FRENCH CUFF! read more

Never in my years of gaydom have I encountered a bar with such a clean, modern interior design. The simplest arrangement of cork, glass and wood yields amazing results. The staff was friendly and the drinks weren't terribly expensive. The music jumped all over the board, from MGMT to Deee-Lite. Whoever chooses the playlists for the bar certainly knows how to keep a bar lively. We were able to sit along the wall, look out the window, and enjoy our drinks in a nice environment. What more can you ask from a bar? read more

An exhausting "lounge" due to the excessive volume of the music and the cramped quarters. Being in the area next to bar is like waiting on a crowded platform for a train that never comes, even in the presence of good company. Note that I've been to this place over a dozen times, but not checked in before. read more

I was at 1181 on Saturday the 5th, everything was going well until 2AM and they double charged me on my card. I went back to the bar last night and was trying to figure out a resolution to this problem but to no avail. They have just been telling me to contact their owner: Todd Hoye and the bartender handed me his business card for his contact information. After several attempts I called him and I left text message no one gets back to me read more

Pricy and not fun. It is not a place to meet people. If you are in a group it can be fun, not because of the place, but people. Do not expect to dance and have a crazy night. It is more like have you drink and sit down. Go to cactus club if you want to have cheaper drinks, way better service, better music and service read more

Short and sweet on this one: 1) An obnoxiously tight space to navigate 2) A fantastic menu (a touch expensive but not too bad) 3) Always seems too empty or too full 4) Music is great, but a touch too loud to talk, which is odd for a lounge 5) Simple, great decor 6) Fun, cute staff Great as a pre-drinking destination or to have one or two before heading home... read more

There's a trick to finding this place - I'll give you a hint, it has something to do with the name. Wheels turning ... wheels turning ... yes! It's also the address. Located at 1181 Davie Street you'll find this narrow, modern cocktail bar packed. The crowd is by majority, male, thirty-something, and trendy with money to burn. Sound good, ladies? Don't get your hopes up. These eligible bachelors aren't sipping Tanqueray and tonic looking for a woman to feather their nest. Quite the opposite. But if you aren't looking for a f-seeking-m nightspot and just want a hip lounge to sip a quality bevie with a friend or three, this place will do the trick. Everyone is welcome. It gets a bit loud and is often packed, so it can be a challenge to find a place for yourself. Between the music, and the movie projection on the back wall and all the handsome characters, there's a fairly lively vibe and great people watching. They have weekly features, including $4 pints on Monday and Thursday and Jager or tequila shots for the same price on Saturday night. Giddy up! read more

Where my gurls at? I can't go to 1181 without them, because this place is hoppin' on the weekend. The only way I can even get in the door is to show up with the hottest drag queens in the city, which is so funny for me, since usually I am the one using my feminine ways to weasle my way in past the line. How the tables have turned! 1181 is a classy place that is long and narrow and filled with sexy gay men. There is a DJ at the back, but not really anywhere to dance, which makes this place a great stop on your way out to one of the bigger bars on Davie where you can lipsynch for your life. I can't really comment on the prices since my gurls take such good care of me, if they are queens, I am definitely their little princess. But trust me, drinks were consumed. They have a small coat check, which is really just a cupboard, but at least they offer that, as most pubs don't. However this place doesn't have a ton of seating either, and why should they, how are you going to check out the goods when someone is sitting on their ass? Gimme some fries with that shake shake booty! 1181 is a perfect spot to pre-drink before gettin' yo dance on. Me likey. read more

rawr for the bartenders I know I'm barking under the wrong tree, but hey nothing wrong with looking ;) We barged in around 1am on a Saturday night and shared a bottle of wine. Previously I hassled one of the guys to bring me a taster of two different wines because I wasn't sure what do I want (as always, cliche is correct-women don't know what they want). He was super nice and helpful. Oh, I will be back... read more

Whenever I go home to Vancouver I hit the town with my gay best friend. The "town" being Davie St. A lot of our favorite places have shut down so I have left it up to him to find places to go upon my return... being that he still resides in the city and all. His latest find was 1181 Davie. He and his bf have made friends with the owner and we had exceptional service there. Drinks that were free flowing and no line ups at the bar. The staff is hot(from a woman or gay male's POV anyhow), friendly and half naked! We went on a friday night and it was busy. We started out early out on the patio and later ended up inside. It's a small little bar. The decor is nice. I felt very at home. Funny story. When we were there I had a friend from Calgary meeting me at the bar. She texted me asking for the address. I sent it it to her. Being the name of the place and all it was easy to remember. Then she texted back asking for the name of the bar. Again I texted 1181 Davie. She was like.. no.. the NAME. I again texted 1181 Davie and thought nothing of it. She thought I was drunk or something and had no idea where I was. It was the cab driver that filled her in that the addy and name are on in the same. When I go back to Vancouver I will definitely go back. read more

I will say that the bartenders were very kind but this just was not my atmosphere. We walked into a sausage fest and left after just one beer. Not only were us girls way outnumbered, the place was very narrow and just not very warm or inviting. BUT if you are a gay man looking for clean cut gay men, then I would think this would be where you'd want to hang out. It seemed like a lot of the guys knew each other and like I said, the bartenders were very friendly. read more

I love this bar. The man at the door is so friendly you just want to give him a big hug. The bartenders are nice, and the music and video effects are great. I wish the space was bigger because other bars need to take a lesson from this one. The staff truly treats you like the customer you are. My fave read more

This bar is ridiculous . I waited on line for 1 hour and there were only 10 ppl ahead of me. !! And when I got in it was empty !! It's the most frustrating entry line out of any bar or club I ever been to in the world!!!!! I understand there is some sort of over capacity rule but the bouncer was not letting ppl in when ppl came out . Once j got in . This bartenders looked so bored cause there was no one at the bar and there's a huge line outside ! I just don't get it !!!!!its crazy !!! read more

AVOID THIS PLACE. I love a good cocktail so I was excited to try this place out. Unfortunately some of their staff think they are porn stars and you have to take sh*it from them. Because they are "hot" News flash! That's not how it works. There is nothing more off putting than a rude and entitle bartender. You mix drinks for living get over yourself. Not worth the ridiculous attitude. read more

Quite nice location, good looking bartenders BUT: Yesterday we waited in line for about 45 minutes when a guy skipped the line with the lame excuse "a friend of mine is inside.......and btw I have three more friends who also want to get in". Of course this guy could go in with his friends. WTF???? I said to the bouncer "oh a friend of mine is also waiting inside and I bring 4 more people", but the bouncer obviously didn't get the sarcasm...so we left quite pissed and needless to say we won't come back! There are more places on Davie with better customer service. (btw. compared to the guys who skipped the line we are more the kind of crowd the 1181 normally wants). read more

This is a great place to start of an evening at before it gets too busy and the lineups start. Low key, no attitude, good music, and a cool room to sit in, means I'm in, at least until I find out where I'm dancing. I also love the movies and TV shows they play. read more

I live near Davie Street so I often walk up to get to Yaletown or somewhere near Granville Street. So I see this place often and it's a curious crowd that hangs out. Yes, it is primarily a gay bar but there are a lot of straight girls and guys that seem to congregate inside. The entrance is narrow, the front is covered with large windows. The back has a giant screen and usually has a gay porn type of movie on. The seating is low slung couches and cushions. everyone is friendly and the crowd is Euro chis. The music is house, heavy drum and base driven. The drinks are cleverly divided into sweet, salty, tart etc..so I would recommend a cocktail and no the wine. It's perfect for single women looking for a pre-party drink place. read more

Sounds like I need to entertain myself, these bars are costly, fake and nothing but trouble

It's easy to remember the address of this bar: 1181 is the street address number, and it's on Davie St., which has strip of gay bars, mostly between Burrard and Denman. This is a small but chic bar. It's long and narrow, with bar stools along the bar and comfy chairs and TV in the back. The drinks categories include fresh, fruity, floral, tart and savory. 1181 has a nice selection of wine but just two beers on tap: a lager and a pale ale. It's a good place to start the night, but I probably wouldn't make it a destination. read more

I live just off Davie and pop in here for a drink now and again with my girlfriend. Drinks are reasonably priced, fairly loud in there, and a nice modern lounge atmosphere. Both her and I are very pro-gay people so we like the place for a night cap. It is a gay bar however so if you have any reservations about that you best take your business somewhere more redneck and stuck in the past. Cool bar! read more
