For the past six months, my two boys, aged 6 and 4, have beenq going to 10th Planet Poway. A friend from my childhood, who was a State Champion wrestler at Poway High School, suggested it. It's been a great place for them to get into sports in Poway and learn from top-notch trainers. The coaches, especially Brandon and Kyle, who teach the younger kids, are fantastic. They're all skilled athletes and really love what they do. Brandon and Kyle make learning fun for the kids while also teaching them discipline. The program they run is just right for children to learn and grow at their own pace. Come on down to 10th Planet Poway!!!!!

My 4-year old started training Jiu Jitsu here a few months ago and is having an amazing experience with Coach Kyle. What a difference from just a few months of regular biweekly sessions, he's picking up the basics so quickly. Jacob loves going and has fun, which is the name of the game at this age!

10th Planet Poway is by far the best Jiu Jitsu gym I have ever been to and I cannot recommend them highly enough! Very nice mats and the gym is clean. They have classes for kids and adults and the coaches are friendly and knowledgeable. They even have an area to lift with plenty of room. Best Poway has to offer by far!

Y'all. 10th Planet Poway has become my home away from home. Whether you're a wrestler, a jiu jitsu practitioner, or someone who wants to learn a new hobby and get in shape, the quality of instruction and value at this gym is exceptional. Here's why: -Welcoming atmosphere for all skill levels. Head instructor Kevin Berbrich is awesome, professional, and totally willing to break down techniques and answer questions. -Variety of classes throughout the week, including KIDS CLASSES with coach Kyle Vexler. -Kyle also teaches an awesome Saturday wrestling class, followed by Kevin's noon jiu jitsu class. That's back-to-back awesomeness. -This school is part of the 10th Planet Freaks system, which means you can train at THREE OTHER GYMS with your membership: 10th Planet San Diego, Oceanside, and Spring Valley. Those schools are led by three of the top players in nogi jiu jitsu. And they're all within like 30 minutes of each other. Amazing. -Want to compete? You're covered. The 10th Planet Freaks competition team actively competes in tournaments throughout SoCal, so you'll have tons of support on the competition scene. Bonus perk: There's a shower at the gym, which is a big deal for me because I'm stanky after practice. I drive 50 minutes from the Temecula area to train here. Sometimes I drive 1.5 hours to cross-train at the other Freak schools included with my membership. Why? The experience is worth it. Take a class.

I've been training at 10th Planet Poway for nearly a year, and I feel like I've progressed a lot since I started. The gym boasts skilled and respectful training partners, creating a positive and motivating atmosphere and they push me to become a better practitioner. The promotional membership deals make it more affordable, and the focus on both Jiu Jitsu and wrestling sets it apart. The strong competitive environment, combined with friendly training partners keeps me coming back. The coaches, Kevin Berbrich and Joshua Jackson are approachable, friendly and offer an insane amount of knowledge and experience. Private lessons are both extremely helpful and affordable and the coaches demonstrate any technique you might have questions about and anything in general that consists of Jiu Jitsu or wrestling and allows you to also record these lessons to retain information and improve your skill set. Overall I would encourage anyone that is interested in wrestling or Jiu Jitsu to sign up and start or continue to improve their skills. Even if you're not interested in either just come in for a day pass and learn some self defense while getting some cardio in to improve your health. 10th Planet Poway also has an assault bike and weights if you want to train cardio or build muscle while learning wrestling and Jiu Jitsu!

Learning Martial Arts from the BEST!!! Coaches Liz Carmouche and Kevin Berbrich.

If you are looking for a new way to stay healthy, build a bit of muscle, learn self-defense, or compete in martial arts, then you make your way down to 10th Planet Poway and learn from the best instructors and fighters in San Diego!!! Just be sure that you are ready to be surrounded by humble, friendly and awesome people, from all walks of life, when training here! Liz Carmouche is an INCREDIBLE MMA and Muay Thai instructor! The only thing bigger than her muscles, is her level of kindness and desire to take your striking technique to the next level! No matter what your level of fitness, Liz will meet you were you are at and help strengthen your cardiovascular system with her unique and vigorous workouts. Liz is everything you want in a teacher, which is why learning from this UFC legend is truly a privilege and exceptional honor! Kevin Berbrich is a phenomenal jiu-jitsu instructor! He is always willing to help you and teaches jiu-jitsu fundamentals, and advanced techniques, in a way that is engaging and easy to follow. I always have a positive experience when learning from Kevin, which is why he is one of the most awesome jiu-jitsu coaches I have ever had. His classes are like the free food samples handed out at Costco... You never want to miss out on one!

I love everything about this place! I always feel welcome when I walk in and this place has quickly become my second home and all my training partners have become like family. Kevin who is the head instructor, has such an innovative style and makes learning entertaining and easy to understand. Every day I learn something new and after every practice, I've never felt better. Also there's showers here so if you have a longer drive home like myself (come from Temecula) then you can always shower before heading out. Hope this review helps bring you in and hope to see you on the mats!

I started training here in February, coming off a year hiatus from muay thai due to an ACL tear. Before I even started my first class, I immediatley felt welcomed. Kru (Coach) Brian introduced himself right away and got to know me and my skill level. In the almost seven years since I started training, I have never had a muay thai coach deliver instruction with such detail, but in a way that is understandable to all levels of students present in the class. Brian is extremely perceptive at observing movement and identifying exactly what needs to be adjusted to help everyone perfect the technique we are working on, and he is really good at explaining things in multiple ways. He is a really great teacher, as well as an awesome fighter too! The classes are structured in a way where we build upon techniques over the week (or longer term), which is great for developing your skillset, and also wonderful for refining your technique if you've been in the game for a while. Along with great instruction, the gym is very much absent of any "ego"...but don't assume this means the other students aren't serious about the sport. There is a group of badass fighters that train here, and they are happy to train with others at all levels. Everyone is genuinely friendly, which gives the gym a great vibe and makes me look forward to heading to the gym as often as possible. Final, but important notes: all equipment in the gym is in great condition and the gym is very clean. They also recently started a strength and conditioning program. These have been awesome workouts thus far! If you're looking for a place to train muay thai and/or get in shape, whether you are new to the sport or an experienced pro, you need to check out Prime.

I am a refugee of a place that closed in Kearney Mesa and I am super happy to have found a new home at Rebellion! You can train the well known Muay Thai+BJJ BUT ALSO GET THE ILLUSTRIOUS JUDO AS WELL! ALL IN ONE ROOF! Coaches: Awesome and helpful for everyone of all skill levels Facility: Perfect balance of equipment and space to do stuff Community: Welcoming, friendly, respectful but also they do not bow to others unnecessarily - as a proper martial arts place will instill the same understanding of mutual respect between people, the give and take and is represented by the staff and coaches. Hard thing to find these days in the world. Intensity: Just right, you don't have to fear of physically overtraining here because you took 1 extra class during the week. You get a good sweat going, learn solid techniques and are ready to come back the next day feeling better and ready to learn more! Lastly - Fight Gym or Martial Arts place?: A balance of both, you'll learn technique at the intensity level you are comfortable at AND you won't be pushed to your physical limits every class resulting in overtraining. This is a place to come to and come often so you can get better, do you want to compete? Let the coaches know! Do you want to just learn? Let the coaches know! The journey is in your hands and everyone, literally everyone is willing to help. Finally a place without the crazy egos or "over friendly sales" aspect I've been through a ringer looking for places to train my love for Judo and Muay Thai and this place has it all!

I originally identified this studio through a social media ad and then saw their videos, fbook, instagram, etc. I submitted the inquiry online and received prompt, courteous and clear communications from Sarah, New Members Coordinator, Lead Instructor, Carlsbad. We didn't have the pleasure of meeting Sarah in person but I appreciated her quick responses and ease to schedule our first introduction to the studio. Within a week, we had the opportunity to come by for a Saturday trial class at the Rancho Bernardo location. There are two studios: Rancho Bernardo and Carlsbad. The Rancho Bernardo one is near the fire house/ Webb Park (heading toward the library) and conveniently located in a shopping plaza. Our kiddos were in the 4-6 age range and they have no martial arts training or background (besides watching ninjago and thinking ninjas are super cool). They had a blast in class. Coach Chandler (?) was supported by some older volunteer students and other coaches. I was impressed with the teacher to student ratio, cleanliness of the studio, and the firm but loving direction provided. For example, I very much liked that the lead coach explained clearly to the young kids that screaming is not acceptable when saying "Yes Coach!" The instruction was easy to understand for the young kiddos. And he meant what he said. When one kid blatantly stepped out of line (class clown of the hour), Coach Chandler firmly and politely had the kid sit out the fun activity and then took the time to speak with the kid one-on-one and explain what the kid had done wrong. It was very impressive and well executed. We aren't familiar with martial arts in general but they explained they are a type of martial arts that is not form based (like Tae Kwon Do). They lean on many of the similar concepts but it's more defense instruction (how to actually execute a kick or punch properly so that a child can learn to protect themselves). I thought that was interesting to learn. The backbone to their program is the mindset they want to cultivate with young kids. They have a very well thought out program and in fact the first paper they gave us states: "We begin the Martial Art training journey not with punches and kicks, but with central lessons called Tenets." I REALLY liked this concept. They integrate parents into the learning process and help set attainable and age appropriate goals. Very well thought out program. Great leaders. Fun kids and coaches.. the kids loved it. We didn't participate this round just due to scheduling conflicts.. but do VERY MUCH recommend checking them out and scheduling a trial. One thing is to understand/discuss prior to your trial is the investment (they do offer a substantial discount for signing up same day as your trial) and the schedule. We may find ourselves back to join in the Spring but I did want to applaud the business. Girls and boys alike would excel in a studio like this.

I started with SKMA back when it all began as a side hustle for Mr. Cowell as he was (I believe) a student at SDSU. In fact, we originally were using a church for class prior to SKMA moving into their current locations. I trained underneath Brian Cowell for approximately 7-8 years. There are no better boxing coaches or applied martial arts coaches, than Mr. Cowell himself. I can firmly attest to that having now lived all across the world and having avidly boxed in a few other locations inside this country and out. Mr. Cowell and his staff have a very solid history of being overtly friendly, extremely experienced, very diligent and very dedicated to Martial Arts as both a training regime and as a lifestyle. Martial Arts is not only a great means to get into shape, but when applied more mentally it creates a mindset which few hurdles in this world can stop. Every aspect of my life, and the quality of person I am today, is based in the foundation that SwiftKick Martial Arts, and Brian Cowell himself, instilled in me through years of training approaching a decade ago. If that is not a testament to a very worth wild investment, I don't believe I know what is. In terms of Martial Arts training and capability. Due my job, which works in the Anti Terrorism field, there have been more occasions than I have fingers and toes where I have had to rely on the techniques and skills I acquired through years of training from SKMA. It just works. Hopefully there is never a time to need to resort to violence. BUT.. if there is ever a time where you must, for the purpose of self defense, there is no greater means to prepare yourself.
