This was our first time trying out a new place in town. Dining in is still closed, but we are in…read moreunusual times. We ordered delivery via DoorDash, so it was easy. Delivery was super convenient and the food was still hot! The food overall. was average, but maybe just not a cuisine for us. We ordered the 3-Piece Whiting Dinner (with Mac & Cheese and Potatoes), 2-Piece Catfish Dinner (with Mac & Cheese, Home Potatoes, and Hush Puppies), and 6-Piece Wings (with Mac & Cheese and Fries). We also received a complimentary container of the coleslaw. Luckily, I picked the catfish. It was the best part of the entire meal. Unanimous vote for 2 Thumbs Up on the catfish with its light and crispy outer breading. Even baby ate every bite offered him since the catfish seemed to melt in your mouth! So good. Best I've had that I can recall. I liked the hush puppies - 2nd place pick! For baby, he liked the Fries also. They were soft, so easy for him to eat! Sorry, no pics of anyone else's food since they all dig into theirs before I could even get to mine. I served baby his bowl of Mac & Cheese which he usually likes any and all pasta with any and all cheese. However, he took one bite of this one. Refused to eat anymore. Unanimous vote that it may have had an unidentifiable different flavor that we all were not crazy about. Was it a different kind of cheese? Was it mustard that made it so bright yellow-orange? We couldn't figure it out. Definitely a secret recipe. The wings were plain with sauces on the side. Hubby loves wings, but said these "were okay". I liked them dipped in the BBQ sauce. Hubby said they were basically a fried chicken wing that tasted average to him. I think he would have loved them doused in hot sauce, then dipped in the ranch. I'll have to order hot sauce next time. My dad had the whiting dinner and when I asked about it, all he could say was that it was "real fish". I took that as a win. He likes to eat fish on Fridays - every Friday! So, my hubby and I tried a piece for ourselves. We agree that it tasted very fishy! Lol. No wonder my dad liked it! Wish I got a photo of the liquidy and pinkish coleslaw before my hubby & Dad got to it. Hubs said it tasted like a salad which I thought was a good thing. Vinegar-based? I don't know really because I didn't taste it - since I dislike all coleslaw. My dad ate most of it since we told him it was part of his meal and he doesn't like to waste food. Plus, my dad eats all his veggies! Well, we gave it a try. Would we try it again? It was an adults' Yes ... 2 out of 3 votes. Prices are fair for the amount of food. Plus, it's free delivery on DoorDash (trial period). And, the catfish is worth going back for. Unanimous 4 votes for 2 Thumbs Up on the catfish! YUM! Wish I had ordered 2 of them (the 3-Piece Catfish Dinner) with more catfish on the side and fries! Ha. Next time, we can try to dine in or just order takeout/delivery, so I'll update this 3.5 stars review. (Rounded up. )

It must have been frozen fish when they put it in the fryer, because it was like rubber when they served it. Go to Keondra's next door. Her catfish is always delicious, as is everything else.

Today I had lunch here with my family. I'm on vacation from California with our brother's family…read morefrom Oklahoma and our cousin's from Washington, and we're all at my sisters house who lives very near here and comes regularly enough to know people by name. We asked to sit on the patio ( 8 of us) and were promptly seated and ordered drinks. When our waitress Zoey brought the drinks, she accidentally dumped the entire tray on my head! Pineapple juice, water and soda. I had ice and liquid dripping down my head and in my lap. I wasn't mad... Accidents happen... but she never actually apologized! She mumbled a quiet "oh sorry" then went off to get new drinks. She didn't try to clean the mess off the table, or the floor, or my chair, nor did she bring us any towels! We used all the napkins on the table cleaning it up ourselves... then when our food came we had to ask for more napkins for our meal. She never acknowledged the mess or tried to make amends of any kind for what happened. At the end of the meal she dropped the check with the automatic 18% gratuity because we were a party of 8. The lack of concern really bothered us after we left so we dropped back by a few hours later and my sister went to talk to a manager, who was extremely kind and apologetic, and even offered to pay for dry cleaning (which wasn't necessary but it was a very nice gesture) so apparently the waitress never even told a manager what had happened! We were going to the museum after and to visit the navy ship in town after lunch, but instead first we had to go back to her house and I had to shower and rewash and dry my hair before we could go anywhere, wasting an hour of our family time together. I'm not looking for anything except an apology and acknowledgment that it was a pretty messed up thing that happened. And had that manager known about it and would've stopped by the table with a sincere apology, I wouldn't even be writing this review. Anyway, rant over. The food was delicious and I will eat here again when visiting my sister, but only with a different waitress.

Great experience loved the concept of sharing a table with other people and getting to know them…read moreover breakfast

Monell's Restaurant - Nashville, Tennessee…read more Overall Rating: 5/5 Every once in a while, you stumble upon a restaurant that reminds you why Southern hospitality and good home cooking are so special. Monell's in Nashville is one of those places! I stopped in for lunch based on the recommendation of a Nashville native, and I can confidently say that Monell's did not disappoint. From the moment I walked in, I knew this was going to be more than just another meal. A True Southern Family-Style Experience What makes Monell's particularly unique is its traditional family-style dining experience. Guests are seated at large communal tables, often alongside people they have never met. You may arrive as complete strangers, but by the time the meal is over, you could very well leave having made a few new friends. I found this concept both interesting and genuinely refreshing. The food is served family-style as well, with a set menu brought to the table on generous platters and in large serving bowls. Everyone shares, passes dishes around, and enjoys the meal together, just like a traditional Sunday family dinner. The Food - An Unquestionable 5/5 Across the Board! Let's start with the table fixin's: cucumber salad, coleslaw, and plenty of homemade biscuits and cornbread, accompanied by butter and delicious peach jam. Every single item was outstanding and set the tone for what was to come. Today's lunch menu featured an impressive lineup of Southern favorites: * Southern fried chicken * Roasted chicken * Fried pork chops * Green beans * German-style potato salad * Cornbread dressing * Macaroni and cheese * Fried apples And yes, I sampled just about everything! The flavors, preparation, and overall quality were exceptional. The fried chicken was everything you hope for in a Southern restaurant, and the selection of sides brought together the kind of comforting, familiar flavors that make a home-cooked meal so memorable. There wasn't a single item I tried that I would rate anything less than a 5 out of 5. That is something I rarely say about a restaurant, especially one serving such a wide variety of dishes. Even the beverages deserve recognition. Pitchers of lemonade, ice-chilled water, and some of the best sweet tea I've ever had were waiting on the table. And being a Southerner, I don't hand out compliments on sweet tea lightly! Outside of my mom's and my wife's, this was some of the best I've enjoyed. Service & Atmosphere - 5/5 The staff were absolutely amazing. Friendly, attentive, welcoming, and genuinely hospitable, they made the entire experience feel less like dining at a restaurant and more like being invited into someone's home. The atmosphere was equally impressive. Between the communal tables, platters of homemade food, lively conversations, and warm hospitality, I almost felt like I was back home enjoying Sunday lunch after church. For my fellow Southerners, IYKYK! There's something special about sitting around a table, passing the biscuits, sharing a meal, and enjoying good conversation. Monell's has managed to preserve that tradition beautifully. A Hidden Nashville Gem Tucked away just outside the heart of downtown Nashville, near the Tennessee State Capitol, Monell's is an absolute jewel. It offers something that is becoming increasingly difficult to find: an authentic Southern dining experience where the food, hospitality, and atmosphere are equally memorable. One recommendation: Be sure to check the daily menu! Monell's offers special selections in addition to its regular family-style offerings. Today's special included fried pork chops, and they were certainly a welcome addition to an already outstanding meal. Final Thoughts - 5/5 Monell's isn't just a place to grab lunch. It's an experience built around good food, Southern traditions, and bringing people together around the dinner table. Outstanding food, exceptional hospitality, a memorable atmosphere, and not a single disappointing dish. If you're visiting Nashville and want a genuine taste of Southern home cooking, put Monell's on your list. Come hungry, be prepared to share a table with a few strangers, and don't be surprised if you leave feeling like you've just had Sunday dinner with family. Overall Rating: 5 out of 5 -- An absolute Nashville treasure and a restaurant I would recommend without hesitation!
