I'm not going to address wait time - Jesu Christi - this is a single cook, greasy spoon roadside hamburger stand. I seriously don't understand some of these reviews. The burgers were cooked to order, and were delivered exactly as ordered (my daughter like them exactly plain with no condiments or veggies). I got exactly what I asked for. Great crust on the burger, nice bun. The fries were cooked to order and were well seasoned and crispy. One large fry order was more than enough for two of us. $12.95 for two burgers and fries - that's just fine with me. read more

I'd passed on this place numerous times, driving through Willits, but was finally tempted by the sign advertising "Best Hamburgers and Shakes." We ordered: Burger: delicious hint of garlic/onion in patty + Moderate grease factor = awesome roadside experience. Cheeseburger: repeat of burger sentiment + tasty processed cheese. mmmMMmm Fries: one small order. Right level of crispiness on outside, fluffy mushy potato goodness on inside. Blueberry shake: this was an excellent vanilla shake with a few blueberries added. ;) I'm pleased we stopped - there weren't many people in line (it being 2pm), so service was faster than previous reviews suggest. read more

It's a delicious burger with very solid buns and fresh veggies. The shakes were good as well. Prices are reasonable. Service was friendly. Food takes a while because they are cooked to order. Tables are rarely cleaned, so you just gotta work with what you have. If cleanliness of the table is something you truly care about, then I would suggest you take it to-go or just drive past the place. read more

Great burgers, fries, onion rings, shaved ice, friend zucchini, protein style burgers, etc etc. Only complaint, the food always seems to take a while, like long enough that you start to worry if you missed your number. Excellent Bacon Cheeseburgers (added avocado) since the make their 1/3lb patty's themselves. Also liked the homemade thinner bun! Added some garlic fries and my special banana, coconut and pineapple shake to the lunch! Everything was excellent. read more

Five stars may be a bit much for 101 Drive In, three and a half is way too low. They make awesome, greasy, freshly made drive-in food - maybe not five star food, but close enough for what it is. They don't make your food until you order it, so it takes a while, but it's worth it. Most people like the ortega burger, the western burger, or the mushroom burger. I usually just get a bacon cheeseburger. I'm pretty sure they use John Ford beef for the patties and the buns are great. If you judge this place by its exterior, you'll be pleasantly surprised. read more

Popped in for a burger with a co worker,he had the western w fried mushrooms I had a cheeseburger w fries. Loved the buns, my cheeseburger was very good,produce was nice n fresh,fries were fries. My coworker said just a little too much bbq on the western for him,(so maybe get that on side?) the mushrooms were tasty with a little ranch. He said the shake he had was very good n thick. All in all a good overall experience,and would return. I have been going to 101 drive in since the early 90's. The family and I love it as the tradition carries on. I personally always enjoy the grilled chicken sandwich with everything plus bacon it's the bomb!! I would like to say thank you to the owners for keeping it as close to the same as its always been. Good od greasy skillet burgers. Just dont get the milkshakes.. they are not that well made, I got a strawberry shake and the strawberry jam used to make it pink and fruity was not mixed in all the way. I think this place is a little understaffed at times and the food kind suffers, so does the service. read more

Generally I would suggest skipping Willits for food, but the kids were hungry when we drove through. From a distance this place looked like a cute old time burger joint. Up close, we started to have regrets. After ordering we looked to sit down at the outside dining tables. All of the tables were dirty or greasy. All of them. We wiped down a table and waited for our food. The burgers were fine- not better, no worse. They were cooked to order and good and hot. The fries and onion rings were also fine. The shakes were ok too. Why the 2 stars? I guess due to how dirty everything was. We had been camping for 2 weeks and WE thought the place was filthy. This place has been around as long as I can remember!! For an old fashioned walk up stand they make a very good burger. It's a good comfort food place when you need a French Fry or onion ring fix! The shakes are always great on hot summer nights and let's not forget the chicken tenders??!!' Stopped by while driving through town because yelp had good reviews. The burgers were pretty good but everything else was so bad a 2 star rating was all they get. I would not recommend this place, especially for people with kids. The seating area was dirty and there were 'interesting' things carved into the table tops. Food was so delicious!!! I ordered the western burger (2 tiny onion rings, bbq sauce, and bacon) with curly fries. Price was very reasonable. If it was only the food I would give it five stars but the customer service would generously get one star. The woman who took our order was very rude and unwelcoming of questions, the person who is giving out the orders when they were ready was also rude and would roll her eyes every time someone would ask her a question. I had a great double cheese burger and my wife loved the mushroom burger. Curly fries were served hot but very salty. My chocolate milkshake was good, but my wife said her Oreo cookie shake was disappointing, I can only give it three stars because of the wait. If you are in a hurry this is the wrong place to stop. We were 1 order behind our friends in line and the orders were served nearly 30 minutes apart, after we waited nearly 15 for theirs. So they ate, finished, and used the restroom. We finally got our food and they twiddled their thumbs waiting for us to finish so we could finally get back on the road. The entire point of a roadside drive-in is speed. At this point, they might as well buy the empty restaurant next door and open a sit down joint. The food is worth it if you have nothing better to do, or as some suggested, call ahead. read more

We stop at the 101 drive-in every year on our return from camping at Richardson grove state park. Yes the tables maybe dirty and the ambience is roadside outdoor dining. Yes the bathroom is somewhat dirty, and very old. But the hamburgers are authentically great, french fries outstanding, and the shakes so thick that it takes a while for them to melt to the level of being able to drink them through a straw. They hand make their patties, and cook your food after you order, so yes it takes a while to get your order, so don't go here thinking you're going to get instant fast food. I really get tired of reading reviews that, while positive, start out by saying something like: "its not much to look at," or "its just a hole-in-the-wall." The fact of the matter is this is a place that has been in its location since the 50's, and if you want a little taste of what this country was before McDonald's came on the scene, then come on over here and enjoy an atmosphere of times gone by. As for the food, well, they are the best Burgers in Willits, Ukiah, Lakeport, and all points in between, and North or South. The Burgers are prepared for you when you order them - a thick, delicious 1/3 pound. The buns are terrific. They pile on lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and mayo, or the new "101 sauce," which I totally love. They have two sizes of fries, and whichever size you order it will be double what you get at any fast food place. Many extra's like onion rings, cheese sticks, and zucchini sticks. And... Shakes!!!! Delicious ice cream shakes! At least a dozen flavors, and soft serve ice cream as well. I have to mention, "friendly" staff. Imagine that! You always get the feeling that they genuinely appreciate you doing business here. I defy anyone to tell me that they get the same treatment at any fast food place. I believe this business is open due to it being located right off the 101. One of the first food stops on the hwy. but the man at the cashier/cook has a poor attitude and no hospitality what's so ever. Very rude!! This is my very favorite place in the world to eat a Gardenburger. I think they make it from scratch or something, but I don't know. They have great fries, and spectacular milk shakes. It takes about fifteen minutes to make after you order it, so it's good to call ahead. The people who own it work there with their children (when I first started going I wondered if it was even legal..) but the children were more efficient than a lot of adults are, so I didn't worry about it. They don't come across as overly friendly at first, but they are really great people and make sure that they get it just right. If this place ever closed I would be going through serious withdrawals! read more

Sorry, I don't like to post negative reviews but this stand has really awful burgers. Dry meat, hard, chewy roll devoid of any sweetness. Produce sloppily stacked and sparse. In short, nothing with this hamburger works. See my other reviews for how great hamburgers are made elsewhere. read more

Looking for a snack on a Sunday afternoon we stumbled upon 101 Drive In. Got a shake, chicken melt sandwhich and a corn dog. The corn dog was a chicken dog fried to perfection. My mocha shake was very good, not super sweet. Lastly the chicken melt was an actual chicken breast, cheese, a soft sourdough roll with plenty of fresh veggies. The prices are unbelievably inexpensive. We will definitely be back to try their burgers and fries. read more

This place is probably hurting because of all the customers diverted onto the new 101 bypass. I feel bad. But whatever. I was going for the 'old school burger experience' and this place only partially delivered. Definitely not friendly service. Long wait in a not-so-clean patio area. Weird super white, super soft buns that are not toasted. I guess some people like that. Fried foods not particularly good either. Def. 'meh' overall. But good place to catch some local flavor, get a feel for what Willits is like. read more
